Joey, great job on this review... I like that you did not pull any punches and was very honest. You also broke down each section of the controller and explained each function clearly and to the point. Keep up the great work your doing with digital dj tips... ✌Out
Thanks Dj Bobby D 👊
Wasn’t considering purchasing this controller. Didn’t even know about this controller. Thanks for the review. It’s just nice to know that there is an effort being made to produce a mid or high level controller specifically for virtual DJ. Hopefully improvements can be made from here. I’m routing for you Reloop.
You're welcome, thanks for checking out the video!
The length of the review sums this thing up.
We're aiming for shorter vids! :)
Dude I just love that studio you're in... lol
Haha, thanks! 😀
@@digitaldjtips yoo Joey are the faders itself less quality or can't i just change the fader caps little bit expensive for a fadercap but could it work? if it works you have a great controller for home use
When i saw the first picture of this controller i thought it was a new traktor pro unit :)
Didn't mean to get your hopes up! :)
Would be much better with VU meters and an input for a USB key great video Joey
Thanks Tim :)
Dude great review
Thanks Justin
so I'm interested in one of these, but am nervous about the custom VDJ version, and I would love to see a 2021 video how it stacks up today. Maybe cover how its version stacks up to the latest VDJ, and do a test of what happens when you try to use it with a default install of VDJ from 2021 and if it can work properly.
Sorry for drudging up an old video with new questions, but with this controller coming with a VDJ pro license key adds a lot of value to me and I would love some more info.
I think it's unlikely we'll do that, you could try asking in our DJ group though if anyone has one: djtips.co/family :)
I spent 7 Days trying to get it to work. Almost lost all my music. MAC OS updates are a pain, but I learned a lot in the process.
What was this biggest issue?
@@digitaldjtips It seems that the UPDD features are not explained well (in the installation pamphlet the device came with), so when I did not download and calibrate it appropriately; I was left to update my OS to Big Sur. That was my first mistake. The TOUCH does not work with BIG SUR (not yet at least) I wish I would have known that before I whiped away 4T worth of music on accident during said update. After days of trying to downgrade my Mac back to Catalina, I was able to diagnose the issue myself toying with the UPDD features. Which I could have done from the get go, had I known the importance of the UPPD driver functions. I learned more about my Macbook Pro then I intended but now I am one happy DJ!
@@digitaldjtips Not to mention, getting Catalina Back was a pain because I had to learn how to create a bootable installer drive. I spent days on the subject via UA-cam (Which led me to Amazon to order the proper flash drive for this part, so I had to wait for the 3 days for it to arrive before I could continue and also later retrieve most of my 4T music) somehow. I managed.
What a pain! Glad you got it sorted
Great review , answered questions I had about this unit, now can anyone recommend a controller with great sound cards / sound that would be a plug n play with VDJ8 besides the Gemini G4 ? Thank you.
Thanks! Glad it helped :) Definitely check out our free gear guide, it has all of our recommendations (including a section on the best controllers for VDJ): djtips.co/2018-gear-guide
wow this is cool!
Thumbs up for the review Joey. Just a quick correction. Existing VirtualDJ 8 software users don't really need to install any special version. There is a skin file specifically for the 7" touch screen that comes with the VirtualDJ for Reloop installer but other users can just download that file from Virtualdj.com (addons pages). And here is what makes the integration with VirtualDJ 8 so special. The touch screen skin is fully customizable by just editing this special skin. Instructions provided on Virtualdj.com as well.
Thanks George! :)
Question about the Numark NV was wondering if there is a specific driver to make it a Stand-alone controller without a laptop and just a Harddrive
Not that we know of - laptop can be out of sight but still needs plugged in
yoo Joey the faders are flimsey but they are changeble? Reloop sells faders and knobs different collers and knobs too,
Yes I remember they are replaceable!
Is the soundcard not very good? Btw, great video Joey. Cheers
Sound card is fine.
i own a reloop touch the bass sucks on it, the mids and high sound good though, it also has a hum and the only way to fix it is to turn the volume all the way up and lower the faders to 7
True you can use lots of controllers with VDJ but you do give up some functionality compared to what that same controller does on it's native program.
A dedicated controller has been long needed but this one falls short and has a somewhat odd layout.
Yeah fair points, it's an interesting one - definitely different!
If you're someone who only uses Virtual DJ, is this controller still a good buy in 2021? Also, you mentioned that it ships with a special version of VDJ 8, would the latest version Virtual DJ 2021 work well with this?
We'd hesitate to recommend this now only because we haven't tried it since this initial review in 2018, if it's still working great with the latest version of VDJ (which I'm sure it is) then it'd be a solid choice for a DJ using Virtual DJ - you're not short of choice though!
@@digitaldjtips understood. Thanks. Makes me wonder though why Virtual doesnt have more dedicated controllers.
seems like this controller is 5 years too late, good to havy another player competing in the market besides pioneer numark and denon but they need to step up the build quality
Thanks for weighing in DJ Dash! 👍
I Googled and didn't see anything, does the custom version of VDJ that comes with it only work with this controller?
It comes with a full version of the software, no restrictions.
So... does the version that ships with the controller is equivalent to a virtual dj pro license ? Or would you need to still purchase that to unlock pro ?? Thanks in advance to anyone that can answer
Still need to purchase it.
Is it still a great buy in 2020, compared to Roland DJ 707m, or even Denon MC7000?
No.. the 707m is a beast and MC7000 works with other shit besides VDJ
Hey what does the Xcoder do? Does it have key shift?
A service rep on a website said this was a standalone unit. Is it?
No you need a laptop
Is this a standalone? Basically Im trying to offload music and ditch the laptop, anyone know if his unit will take care of that or what all units can do that?
No it isn't (though I can see why you'd think that). You'll want to check out the Denon Prime series and the Pioneer XDJ-XZ
The Denon prime 4 is a waste of money. Support is crap...
How to transper music files in tht Controler they have a usb input
This isn't a standalone controller you use it with a laptop and have your music on that
Anyone recommend to buy this controller?
Think it would have more market value if it was Stand Alone Controller...Laptop Optional
For sure 👍
They made the Denon prime for a stand along Console with touch screen as well. It seems Denon borrowed from this unit. I got the prime from with a bad jog wheel so I personally wouldn't choose the Denon prime 4. The nummark ns7iii is better built for the buck...
Is it not a stand alone do I still need my laptop to be used with all the time after the setup.
No it's not standalone you'll need a laptop to perform with it
Digital DJ Tips all good thanks.
Am I the only one having trouble having the screen NOT work? Everything else works, the screen just isn’t on. I can even touch it and it responds with the laptop, but there’s just NO display some reason. I made sure to install all the drivers 😒
What's the price of it?
Think he said around $700
Thanks guys
Here in Greece it cost 600€, for this controller is waste of money, generally all controllers from reloop have the worst sound cards
Does it work with Traktor Pro?
You cold map it, but no, not out of the box.
is it a good deal new for 250 euro?
yes. tell me where you've got that price and i'll buy it
250 euro?? where you seeing that price??
This controller is a little late to the game, plus I really don't like the position of the wheel jogs.
Thanks for your feedback on it!
no VU meters? good luck with that in a pro situation
I already didn't like this controller now it's dead to me!
It seems nice, and fun, but those jogs bother me - don't put a sticker like a record marker. CDJ style - if its not in real time display it would be veryyyyy distracting. There are not too many controllers with 4 decks AND a screen (I'm not counting numark and their dashboard). Gemini (dare I say it)... SDJ 4000 is similar, standalone, linkable with MDJ 1000s, 4 decks, QWERTY search, onboard color FX, 100mm faders, all the in/outputs, beat FX, multiple waveform views. And NO previous analysis needed - its build in. If Gemini actually pulls this off and makes the firmware better then their previous machines - bye bye controllers like these. Bye bye to the XDJ RX. Oh, and its only 1000 USD. That would be a great product to get hold of DDJT!!!! I've been trying for almost a year aha!
That'd be awesome indeed :)
