That's a cool little thing. Tech has come so far since I bought my old Canon HF-S100 1080p camcorder over a decade ago. All this AI auto-tracking stuff and gimbal stabilisation is amazing. Thanks for the vid Dave.

Thanks for watching, Jim! Yea it’s ideal for making the studio vlog. Simple to use and produces great footage!

We need to test again outside, using the same exposure settings and colour grade the same in post. Pocket is the clear winner indoors, but think we need to do some more robust outdoor testing :D

Yea, good idea. I’ve got the ND filters for the Pocket 3 now. I didn’t do anything colour grade wise to the clips where we compared cameras…

Great video Dave. Are the ND filters you mention just for filming outdoors? Would there be any benefit using them in a gig/studio setting? Cheers!

Hey Jimmy! The ND filters are only necessary for outdoor use I would imagine. Might be useful if you wanted to vlog a day in the life of your band…

    Hi! Excellent review.
As a drummer I'm pretty much tired of using my gopros, and want to try something new for filming concerts. The experience is very clunky using their app, and the quality is just yet to be there for me (both video and audio wise )- when using at a small venue, like you've demonstrated, the video is soooo grainy.
The pocket 3 (creator combo version) finally brings the kind of video and audio quality I'm searching for, but I'm worried about it's longevity and durability. The thing I love the most about my gopros is that they are very rugged, and I don't have to take extra care when using them. I just clip them to something near by and take the shot.
I would love if you could share some of your experience of using the pocket 3 with the app and also some footage and opinion about using it on stage/crowded area where the sound is at a high volume. Also, what you think of it durability wise after some use?
    Many thanks,
    Yotam

Hello. I’m not sure it’s durable enough to use without care. The audio from the pocket has been ok, the mic 2 in the creator combo can also record 32 bit floating point which (in theory) can’t clip. I guess the best solution for audio would be to get a feed from the desk into a little field recorder and then sync that to the video. I have friends who have got pretty good results from the insta 360 camera - certainly a fun thing to play with. It would be nice to see a DJI Action with a bigger sensor, these things must be on the horizon. I think as to whether the pocket 3 is rugged enough depends on the sort of gigs you’re doing. If there’s likely to be stage invasions and bass players jumping about, it might not be up to the job. What sort of gigs are you doing? I’m going to take mine to some gigs and see how it copes in the next few weeks!

@@davespeakmanmusic Thank you so much for the quick and detailed answer!
I mostly do small to medium Rock/Pop gigs. I guess no real invasions oucur regularly, but there is always movement on stage. It's a tough question and I think you're right saying it really depends.
Regarding the insta360 options, I think that in terms of low light video quality, the Go 3 / X3 are still not as capable as the Pocket 3. And also, I've heard that the X3 has some very fragile lens. An action with a bigger sensor should really be interesting - we'll see how good the next one is I guess.
As far as audio goes, a field recorder will certainly be the best, but the mic2 seems to have a 3.5 TRS input - I was thinking to connect my monitor feed to the receiver and like that record it all with no syncing involved. The option to just press record and have everything already set and synced is very valuable to me. Do you know if that's possible? I haven't been able to find someone who tried it online.
Waiting to hear about your longer term experience. And good luck on your upcoming gigs! I'm sure they will be great.
      Appreciate your help!

What would I need to record myself playing acoustic guitar and singing? I would imagine the clip on mic would not be ideal because it would not be an ideal mix? And, how far away would P3 have to be from me to frame shot of head to bottom of guitar? I keep thinking the dji mic is going to be limiting down the road. I think I need two more mics, one for doing video content from computer, recording, and one for recording myself playing guitar. I’m a noob to all this do please forgive me. Thanks.

    • @davespeakmanmusic
      @davespeakmanmusic  2 місяці тому

I would record the audio (live at the same time) on to your computer for something like that with typical studio mics and then sync that to the video in post. Do you already have an audio interface? You’d probably need to be about a meter and a half away for that shot.

@@davespeakmanmusicHi, yes! Sorry for not being more clear. Let’s say I’m at the park or beach? Would I be able to use the built in mic, the wireless dji wireless mic on a tripod or possibly buy another shotgun mic to sit upon P3? I’m thinking the clip on mic would pick up mainly the voice and not enough of guitar.

You can use the built in mic. If it’s windy or there is any background noise, it may be too noisy though.

A little field recorder like the zoom ones may be better for capturing the audio

Action 4 footage inside is quite disappointing. It was really very dark though.

I thought it looked good in the studio, I might get one. Would be great if they make one with a bigger sensor.
