OK guys, so that I don't have to keep repeating this the audio files from my lapel mic in this video got corrupted. This meant that we had to use the audio from the camera. Yes it's crap, we know it's crap. I apologise. Find out more on James and his relationship with the Gaels at ua-cam.com/video/Zrr5k3ZWH5k/v-deo.html The audio is better on that😎
Well, what about it!! A bit of wind interference in a wild and windy location is sometimes fairly unavoidable. I've been amazed a few times on your videos with your hair blowing around in the breeze but not a bit of interference windwise, on the audio, which lav mics you actually use?
The locations and scenery shots make the difference from those history channels that rely on stock footage and photos. Your personality, the scenery behind you, and your local interactions are important.
10. Actual locations always bring history to life, even if they don't look exactly the way they did at the time. It's also nice to see the geography of a location to understand why and how people made the decisions they did. Love these videos!
James VI was a proponent of The Divine Right of Kings (still popular with the rulers of China) which his son took to heart, to the extent of losing his head for it.
@max Logan..Authority came from the Druids?..Kings were Subservient to the Drudic Order...if you know anything about Brehon Law,we can say that that it was a Superior Law System😄
@@maximum-conatus We know next to nothing about the Druids. Pre-Christian Scotland had its own local priest-kings, the Mormaers, but the ancient records of Scotland were carried off and lost in the sea by English invaders, so we know nothing about them either. Christian monks did not preserve much about those they combatted.
I love the scenery, at least an 8 out of 10. It helps to provide context and show the desolate environmental conditions or types of houses involved with many of the stories.
You bring a smile and even make me laugh (Hotel California!) even with the most serious of topics! Thank you Bruce I continue to look forward to each of you videos. And yes the locations make the stories all the more vivid.
I love location sites! I know it’s expensive to travel so photos work for presentations too. I’m grateful for what you can present! Great video. Personally I think the scenery and “on location” aspect of the video is very important, and one of the best aspects of the channel. Most of these histories I could read in a book, but I come to this channel because I love hearing about them from a real life flesh and blood person with a real personality, filming at or as close as possible to the actual locations these things took place. That’s what sets this channel apart!
10/10 for the locations! I love how you tell us a story and incorporate the locations to show where these historical events occurred. Please keep doing them - they're magnificent.
Thanks for the question, Bruce. I never get tired of seeing Scotland, but I tune in mainly for your perspective and the history lesson. Stand anywhere you like.
Such an informative channel, thank you so much! Also as a Scot in exile I love watching your channel as it’s like I am standing with you at hame! Keep up the good work Brucy!
Just finished week two of the Future Learn course on the clans and their decline, it’s absolutely fascinating and I can highly recommend. Yes, I believe location is extremely important for your videos as it gives much more context to just your, always excellent, narrative and gives a sense of being there and place 😊
The drone shots are amazing! I can see that appealing to quite a wide audience. The scenery is truly lovely, but I am happy just seeing you at historic places telling their tales, too. 😃
I love seeing the locations - it helps to "picture" it, even if it's not like it was back then. I also understand that traveling, and the price of petrol, is something to take into account, also. I enjoy these videos - they teach without sounding dry! Thank you.
To answer your question about the importance of seeing the locations, I give it a 10. Love to see these beautiful places, and for me it really helps. Thank you👍❤️
Bruce I watch because of the history and the scenery. I am an American whose mums family comes from Scotland. Most of my extended family is in Nova Scotia and New England areas. That side of the family did extensive genealogies going back to Somerled. We don't get taught anything in US classrooms about Scottish History so I truly appreciate being able to learn about it. The scenery is beautiful, being a working guy I doubt I will get to see it in person so thank you for sharing. As an American who has been to Scotland a few times, I find the history to be fascinating, and the scenery is splendid. I doubt many followers would be happy with listening to you while you sat in a chair in a library. The land is a large part of the story, and I appreciate you taking us along for the tale.
I'm enjoying everything about your channel. As a person with dyslexia my experience with the US educational system had a lot to be desired. I luckily had teachers along the way that cared. Your historic locations add much beauty and authenticity to your videos. I give them 10. This is also the only way I will ever see dome of them even on my trips to Scotland. Keep up the good work.

Your locations help you tell your stories. I love listening to the history, the way you tell it, where you tell it. Love your channel 🏴♥️🏴♥️🏴
Bruce! A lovely story about YOU from the USA... I was walking into a TRACTOR SUPPLY store in Oklahoma City, wearing my "Tha mi an dochas gum bl latha math lelbh - Tioraldh an-drasda" hoodie from the STORE of Scotland History tours when a woman (named Mary from Phoenix, Arizona - go figure) stopped me outside, pointed to the blue hoodie and said, 'Oh, is that Irish?' Any MacGregor clansman who refused to take different surname were hunted like animals using hounds to sniff them out of their hiding place, when caught they were hung or beheaded. MacGregor children were offered for adoption by families wirh any name but MacGregor. The proscription was finally abolished by King George III in 1774 and all MacGregor's were at last given the same rights as any other British citizen. King James VI was guilty of genocide by singling out Clan Gregor to endure draconian measures as a warning to the other clans of what would happen if they ever got out of line. I've got to say, Bruce, that the settings are far more intriguing and pleasant than your dining room. That said, I'm sure RoomRater would give your dining room at least an 8. Lots of tchotchkes to peruse while you're talking. You just need to add a guitar hanging on the wall or on a floor stand. It doesn't matter if you ever play it or not. The locations you discuss on your show are of course integral to the story, and your stories are terrific. When are you coming to Edinburgh to do a show?
The scenery is important Bruce. Love this channel so much. What a difference from the 'usual ones.' brilliant stuff. More information on the Covenanters history would be amazing. Thanks mate!
I enjoy the location scenes. They add context that you don't get elsewhere. Having a video of the battlefield & locale sure beats photos & maps with circles & arrows, for instance. Makes dry history seem more real & alive, & your personality & passion does the rest. Keeps me coming back for more. I could've passed my history courses in skool! Don't worry about the audio---we just had to pay even closer attention....
I like the history and stories you tell as well as the scenery. I have no favorites and I leave it to you where you make the videos. Great job as usual.
The views in your videos are beautiful. They attach most obviously with the topics at hand most cases. Locations I think help those when travelling and the ones who can not. Personally I think, you are a great asset to Scotland the brave
I love seeing the scenery of these places as you talk about their history, especially places I’ve heard of already. For instance, Iona - I know of the monastery founded by St Columba, seen pictures of the transcendently beautiful illuminated manuscripts created there - but had no idea what the island itself looked like. It adds another dimension to the story you are telling.

I love the locations captured in your videos, particularly the West Coast and the Hebrides. Takes me back to numerous trips by car and motorcycle in my youth. Thank you.
Glad you like them!
i love your videos the History and the fact you visit the places the tales are about all adds to how much i enjoy them so much. My Mother was a Macleod and spoke Gaelic as her first tongue and loved her Scottish heritage. so i love to hear tales and see the land she loved so much and yours are the best thank you x
Glad you like them!
Such beautiful scenery missin home - can’t wait to get home to my books about tartan and natural dyes
I knew nothing of this! Thank you. I do not watch your channel for the scenery, but seeing where things happened brings it home.
I watch because of you and your delivery as much as anything else Bruce.
Thanks
I do love, love, love the scenery... (and have recently had a quick tour of Scotland!) ...
Locations are a big part of bringing these stories of history to life
wow ! this was a very pleasant surprise by having a new video this early in the week. thank you. I do enjoy the scenery in your videos. I'd give it an eight on a scale of ten. however, I watch the videos for the historic stories that you present. the scenery is an added bonus.
I love history and the scenery just adds to it, especially because I'm taking notes about where to visit on my next trip.
I'm quite pleased you covered this. Anytime I brought this up I got a very negative reception, and of course, called a liar. I really enjoy listening to everything you put out and learn quite a bit as well. Thank You and I don't care about the audio. I have a volume button. Its all good
Thanks for sharing
Definitely keep the scenic shots and locations. They help ground the stories
yes, i like to see the scenery as well as hear your teachings :)
Well done Bruce, great video. Lovely to see Martin! A living legend!
Love the locations, add context and, often, beauty
I watch these videos for your fabulous storytelling but the scenery makes me dream about the day I can finally visit my Papa’s homeland.
The scenery is excellent. Fits the story and looks really good on my HD telly.
My grandmother’s family were Grants. I like watching the country of part of my family’s origins. I love the intelligence of the speaker and humor.
Thanks
I like the history and stories you tell as well as the scenery. I have no favorites and I leave it to you where you make the videos. Great job as usual.
Cool, thanks
10, the scenery is stunning and it's good to see where the history took place.
10/10 Being able to see the locations brings the story to life.
Amazing sceneries, really enjoy them. They also adds a lot of flavour to the stories (not mentioning making me want to visit Scotland again).
Go for it!
The views in your videos are beautiful. They attach most obviously with the topics at hand most cases. Locations I think help those when travelling and the ones who can not. Personally I think, you are a great asset to Scotland the brave
Thanks
8 out of 10 for importance of scenery. I'll probably never get to see this in person, so the scenery really brings everything to life.
I really enjoy your location work, not so much for the spectacle but for the context it brings to the story...and you do tell a good story.
Much appreciated!
My ancestors were from the Hebrides and mainland Scotland, love the series.
I enjoy your tutorials very much and I believe the location work adds substantially to my understanding. (10)
I even enjoy your humor.
Thank you!
