Rodgers and Hart wrote it in 1932 and I'll bet were they still around today they would love this beautiful version.

There is no word invented yet (at least in English) to describe how beautiful, exquisite, deep-reaching, and masterfully performed this is from the first deep bass note through everything in between until the very last. Gracias!
Finally ... we get to see Ms Bastida reacting to the music she is playing. She is always so serious and rock steady but you can plainly see and hear how she loves this ballad. Like her movements, her stylizing is classy and subtle. Beautiful ... Bravo.

When we only had records, tapes and CDs we got along just fine-- we felt the emotion of the performers.
The great claasical violinist Jasha Heifitz was often accused of being cold in his interpretations but if you play him on UA-cam and close your eyes, you will feel his passion. The unfair accusations were the result of the austere way in which he held his body when he played. Our eyes can fool our ears.
@@hank1519 While true in some cases; Charlie Parker was said to be quite stoic as he played his improvisations which were anything but lacking in passion, in general a jazz player who has taken the step beyond technical proficiency tends to show body language driven by their enjoyment in what they are playing. I think in Ms Bastida's case in earlier videos she is very focused on technical correctness. In this video I believe she has stepped up another rung in the ladder and started to let her feeling for the music dictate what she improvises, and it shows in here smile and movements.
@@3DPDK My only question is, can you discern an improvement in her solos from the sound alone?
@@hank1519It's difficult to explain without a 20 page comment, but yes, I can hear the difference between a young jazz musician concentrating on following the practiced *formula* for improvising and one who is beginning to break through to a more emotionally driven solo.

You take the beautiful John Coltrane theme, the marvellous technique and sensitivity of Élia Bastida on violin, the genius of the eternal young Scott Hamilton on sax and the outstanding accompaniment of Josep Traver and Joan Chamorro on rhythm, mix it all together, shake it well and you get an intoxicating cocktail for exquisite palates that know how to appreciate these pleasures of the gods. Pure magic within the reach of sybarites of good music.
This is not a "John Coltrane theme." The song was written by Rodgers & Hart in 1933.

If you are listening on a computer you need better speakers - just a cheap set with a separate bass speaker did it for me.
