Contrary to popular belief, pirates did not wear eye patches because they had lost an eye. Instead, they used them strategically to adapt their vision to the varying light conditions below deck. By keeping one eye covered, they could quickly switch the patch to the other eye when moving from bright sunlight on deck to the dimly lit areas below, allowing them to see clearly in both environments and maintain an advantage in combat situations. So, those eye patches were actually a clever tool for navigating the shadows of the pirate's life at sea.
You hit a ton of my family’s favorite spots in Pinellas County man. I’m glad you made it to the OG Hogan Shop. The Walker Texas Ranger chair in the corner and the Rocky 3 stuff is always my fave to look at. Billy’s “Scully’s “ is an awesome spot. Love that movie. Love Rip and John and that film
WELP...when it comes to the Phillies never hang around the Captain if you want the Rays to win...however that was a considerate proposal there he made in there at the end.
Fun fact, that pirate in the park actually used to be on top of a motel called The Buccaneer which originally opened in the 50s. The city decided to save the rooftop pirate and moved it to the park in 2005 when the motel closed and was torn down to replaced by a condo building.
You guys really got me with this one. I lived in Tampa, Indian Rocks Beach, and Largo 40 years ago and Treasure Island is one of my favorite places in Florida. For a while, I drew charcoal portraits of tourists at a couple of restaurants on the beach, including right where you were standing on the John's Pass pier. Never encountered Hulk Hogan, but Dusty Rhodes (The American Dream) lived in my old neighborhood in South Tampa and would pop up occasionally at diners and dry cleaners there. That mural you showed next to the Coke ghost sign depicted the OLD St. Pete pier inverted pyramid building as a Martian/War of the Worlds invader. That building is long gone. Thanks, boys.
I think the Philly Captain might be my favorite of your road companions…aside from Jacob the Carpetbagger. But I mean, I love the cast of Daily Woo characters!
Man, I haven't seen Fletch in years. When I first saw it, it was at the unfortunately very recently departed Fun-Lan Drive In in Tampa. It was part of a double feature, I don't remember what the other movie was that I saw with it though.
Something about seeing those beach shirts hanging in the corner shop... the vibrant colors, the beach smells, the Floridian ambiance, brings me straight back to my Florida days we'd camp in Kissimmee and hit up all the tourists spots. Thanks for the nostalgia 🤟🤟 #TheDailyWoo
Love the content with you and Philly Captain. I live in Largo and Treasure Island, Madeira Beach and Clearwater are my stomping grounds. Would have love to seen you both.
I, and I'm sure I'm not alone, would love to hear you in some sort of weekly (or daily) podcast. Your travel stories alone would fill so much time. Not to mention having other Vloggers or UA-cam personalities as guests. You have a great voice and know how to entertain. Not to mention that you're a compendium of information. You've got quite the following already, and I'd be willing to bet it would be a hit very quickly. Shall you?
I actually stayed at the Thunderbird once several years ago. Enjoyed it. Anywhere on the gulf of Mexico is my preferred beach destination. I will say it again Adam, you and the captain have great chemistry on video. Keep up the good work.
@@sandrap6321 Was the Thunderbird Hotel a chain? I have been by the one in Treasure Island many, many times and I can't help but stare at it every time I drive by. It's such a beautiful hotel. I never realized that there were more than one of them. I am very happy to hear that there are, though.
@@brian5o the logo signage definitely looks the same. Maybe they buy old hotels & try to maintain the retro vibe. Savannah's not a fancy one, but its clean & relatively inexpensive considering its in the historic district. And you park your car right next to your door. No valet or parking deck to fool with.
My parents lived in Punta Gorda for years. I had plenty of great summer vacations down in Florida. I miss you mom and all our beach days looking for sharks teeth and sea glass. RIP.
Don't worry Captain, Adam got you with the Smith joke but you got him with Phillies winning 3 games!!! 😂🤫🤫🤫🤫 You guys are hilarious together 👍🏼 Orangeade is trying to say like Lemonade but this is with oranges 🤪
Hi Adam some of your guests are very quiet and don't say much, but my goodness the Philly Captain is complete opposite. He is lively energetic and of course very funny. He has to be one of your best guests. From Universal Jamie.
Here's treasure for ye - knowledge: Pirate eye patches were not to hide injury. They were to keep one eye in the dark, so when they went from the bright daylight on deck, into the darker lower decks, they could lift the patch, and see with the eye that was already adjusted to the darker environment.
We call the green pattern blocks Breeze Blocks here in Australia, they are for privacy as well as letting the breeze through. You can still buy them here if you are chasing the retro look👍
😎Fun Fact...KOHR'S is an old family business started in 1919 in Atlantic City! I used to go to the Seaside Boardwalk location in NJ all the time since I was a kid😊they opened that stand in John's Pass about 15 years ago😍
Great sunny day loved every minute of it but I only thing I wouldn’t like is the humidity and I’m sorry you have to deal with it living in Florida also I loved exploring the area because exploring is my thing like living out here in SoCal when ever I go for walks in my area I try to find places I’ve never been or places I have been but not for a long time so I can explore and see what’s out there and at the same time I love taking pictures and video of where I go also as far as jJohn Candy his best movie in my opinion is Trains Planes and Automobiles now with that peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Adam and I’ll see you on the next awesome Adam the daily woo adventure peace ☮️ out
At first, I didn’t agree with Philly Captain in terms of John Candy’s best film; but I do see his point in terms of character arc. I do think the best dialogue between John Candy and Mc Cayley Culkin, and the scene where he tells off the assistant principal! Best dialogue ever! Captain would lose his mind if I could tell him that I was blessed enough to have met and hung out with John Candy when they filmed Blues Brothers. What a sweet, kind man!
Good morning for a Woo and Captain video. It looks like you are still wearing your wonky sunglasses. When you were out west you mentioned it was time to get a new pair.great pirate statues.
The joke anout the man with a wooden leg named Smith was from the original Mary Poppins movie. It was told by Burt the Chimney sweep during the "I Love To Laugh" scene at Uncle Albert's.
I got my trip booked for Clearwater next year never been to a beach thanks for showing us around here at sone things to visit while I’m in the area definitely will go to hogans shop enjoyed watching the adventure here
It’s fun crossing those bridges over Old Tampa Bay to get on that island strip. I spent some of my honeymoon on Clearwater, and headed north for the properly named Honeymoon Island State Park. Such a neat strip!
Great Vlog A.T.W. and Philly Captain.. I live about an hour fron Wildwood N.J. some of the 50's and 60's Hotels are really cool to stay in..Plus they have a lot of classic car shows. How about doing the Jersey Coast tour sometime...?
Adam, so sorry your Rays lost once again! Really enjoyed your awesome video with The Philly Captain! I loved Tammy Faye Bakker too and The PTL Club! Looking forward to your next vlog.
I remember when my Cousin and I went to visit Hulk's shop in Clearwater it was nice. I bought the shot glass with Rocky on it. Then we drove by his home and saw ethier him or a car pull into his driveway. Fun times

Glad you got to stop by Johns pass. I mentioned stopping by in yesterdays vlog. It was probably way too hot to walk the boardwalk this time of year. This is my area I live in. Also, Clearwater has a haunted trolley tour that you can take. Would be neat to do sometime.
I've never seen Treasure Islsnd, what a cool place! I have no excuse because I own a vacation home not, 40 miles from there. Great video as always Adam

I LOOOOOOOVE Summer Rental and the Captain is right. It is absolutely John Candy's best movie. I am very afraid of snakes and once bought a snakeskin wallet at John's Pass. I used to tell people that the only good snake was a dead snake.
I have to agree with Philly Captain you NEED to visit Wildwood NJ and Cape May which is one island over so much History in both small towns! I also live only like 10-20 mins away from both lol it truly is a great area, it’s wayyyyy better then Atlantic City by like 1000 miles. Loved the Vlog as always!!
I remember some great spots on Treasure Island. Stayed at the Thunderbird, bought a great custom made belt and buckle there. Beautiful beach. I'll have to go back since that was a long time ago. 😁

I like the interior of Billy's Restaurant. It's got that classic seafood restaurant woodwork and decor. Nice contrast with the exterior architecture.
