History & Future of The Cuatro of Puerto Rico. A documentary concert

This is a short documentary concert based on the history & future of the national instrument of Puerto Rico. Because of technical difficulties, the quality sound/editing is not at its best. Please excuse this inconvenience. Working through Covid19 was challenging and we all had to adapt from a live performance to film. We hope that you enjoy and uplift our wonderful national folkloric musical instrument and all of the beautiful customs and history. We hope to continue bringing cultural events for the future. I'm surprised I didn't see Fabiola Mendez in this! She's so talented and incorporates the Cuatro in modern music. I've been playing the Cuatro for 2 years already and I too, want to teach others about the Cuatro.

Me sorprende, sin embargo, que no se mencione "The Cuatro Project" de la década de 1950, para el cual se produjeron cuatros de múltiples tamaños: Cuatro Soprano, Cuatro Alto, Cuatro Tradicional (el instrumento estándar, también llamado Cuatro Tenor) y Cuatro Bajo.
Aunque el proyecto solo recibió un éxito limitado, fue revivido en la década de 1980 por el luthier William Cumpiano y Christina Sotomayor. Sin duda este proyecto es un hito en la historia del instrumento.
