If possible, I find it more heartbreaking hearing Hartnell say "I don't want to go". It was sad to see David go, but he had his health and a long great career in front of him. Hartnell didn't have either.
Seamus Burke I think that is also in part because of the context of these two instances.
David's line was as the Doctor, a character. Here we see a person, a man who loves his job with all his heart, wishing that he didn't have to go so soon.
They actually wrote that line for the 10th doctor as a nod to this. This wasn't just for the show, his family claims this is what actually happened. He wept, "I don't want to go" for hours.
Its is indeed and a great film overall. I thought it was fab. However, we should realise that it is entirely fiction. Everything. We have no record of hat Waris Hussian, Sidney Newman, Verity Lamkbetr. Everything they say in this programme is fiction.
So yea, good overall but not probably not true in any way whatsover.
And yes, I do love it. I just don't mistake it from being fiction to fact. It's a dram not a documentary. Just in case anyone might think this is true :)
redcardinalist actually, it's very accurate (it's called a docudrama, btw). They spoke to a lot of people who were there and went over records and old interviews and things like that.
@@redcardinalist you are very wrong
Who else thought that William Hartnell was a good Doctor?
Me. He's higher on my list than Eccleston and most of the doctors. William's my sixth favourite.
Ionut Maris Cool, I think he's good, it's just sad that he couldn't do more...
Good? He was the genuine article, you might say.
watertommyz The original.
The Channel Yes, my second favourite.
They so absolutely nailed it in this show. After I watched it I posted on my Facebook "David Bradley is forgiven for _The Red Wedding_".
The Doctor sends his regards.
if Bill Hartnell hadn't gotten sick and had to leave, doctor who wouldn't be around today. They overcame his leaving with the concept of regeneration, which has kept the series alive for so long. William Hartnell is, in that sense, the most important doctor there ever was.
I started crying right when Matt showed up in that scene. It was sort of bittersweet because Hartnell didn't want to stop being The Doctor but because of him, The Doctor is still with us after 50 years. :)
Serenity113 Well no, it was cancelled so technically it was Russel T Davies and Chris E who have kept it with us.
@@joesmith2867 stfu
@@joesmith2867 they rebooted it, it was troughton who kept it going, without him it would never have worked
"Rule #1: No robots.
Rule #2: No bug-eyed monsters."
What'd she give him? Bug-eyed robots. POW POW POW.
gluuuuue I can't stop laughing at this
+gluuuuue i know, she was so clever and brave to do that, and it works! :D
Mutants in a shell
Mutants in a metal shell
+james lawman (super kid) yes they are technically cyborgs like the Cybermen
Two of the most famous sci fi robots
Aren't actually robots
Rumor has it Bradley will play the First Doctor this Christmas. If it is so, I'm all for it because he deserves it.
During the "Wilderness Years" when _Doctor Who_ was off the air I would love it whenever they showed William Hartnell's famous speech from Daleks Invasion of Earth. It was as if The Doctor himself was saying to the fans don't give up hope for one day I shall come back, yes I shall come back.
At 14:00 when he says "I don't want to go" that got me right in the hearts.
DANG IT DAVID
i cried like a bitch
Dammit it man! Stop hitting me in the Feels!
I'm REALLY hoping that's what he actually said, and that it's not a "This is what David said when he was the Doctor".
natedeanmaan61 dude that line was just fan service. I'm sure.
15:09 Anyone wearing headphones should lower the volume just prior to this timepoint, trust me. Good video. :)
I learnt that the hard way...
We all did
Blake Dale lol
Jesus that was loud
Blake Dale 15:11 now deaf
It's nice to know that there are young people who still take an interest in the old dr whos, i adored William Hartnell as the doctor and I was heartbroken when he left the series.
Louise Culmer I think everyone has "their" Doctor. I was too young for Hartnell. I have vague memories of Pat Troughton, but it was the excellent Mr. Jon Pertwee that got me hooked. Some of those stories are being repeated on the Horror Channel at the minute, great to see them again. :)
Such an emotional film D': I can't help but bring on a tear every time. And another great reaction video, gals. I always enjoy watching them :3
same. tear comes to the eye every time.
Indeed, when I first watched this it was sad and emotional. It's a well-put together special with Saving Mr Banks-esque vibes.
Honestly even though it was sad I was really holding it in...until Matt Smith's surprise and symbolic cameo. Oh god all the feels. I'd like to imagine for you two though it was a double whammy since now Matt Smith is also finished with his role as the Doctor.
If ever they want to bring the First Doctor back somehow, David Bradley's the man to do it.
***** I got told that each year they will do the story of each classic doctor and how they evolved with the show
Fun Fact: Hartnell believed that Doctor Who would go on for years and years. And he was right.
"no tears"
Fat chance. I bawled to this programme too.
I liked how they didn't sugar coat the attitudes of the times..
The scene in the bar where because of his colour He's being ignored & it takes her being loud to get them drinks.
& they acknowledged the Canadian contribution to the creation of the show :)
And of course TEARS!! Trust me you weren't alone I was more than teary eyed when he looked up to see Matt standing there .. & the ending Oh.. The ending :)
Well done!!!!
As always Thank you for the privilege to share your times :)
Truly this was a brilliant dramatic recreation, David Bradley played the role of William so well I thought he was him.. Where the hell was his BAFTA for this?
I felt sad during the last third of the movie.... you could tell that Hartnell wanted to try his best but time was catching up to him... and the last bit just brought my family and I to tears. It was as if he had a glimpse into the future and knew it was in safe hands.
Hartnell also introduced the idea of the science of Time Travel being like magic: Matt in that scene even copies Hartnell's holding of two of the TARDIS instruments as the way he controls the flight.
It's something we still have, with the idea of the TARDIS controls being keyed to the user.
Several people have flown the TARDIS, and some more have thought that they did, while outside forces can sometimes also guide it... It's fun to work it out, actually.
This film made me tear up especially towards the end. I'm glad that this was made so that William Hartnell won't be forgotten. Thanks for watching ladies.
Kennedy was killed on November 22, 1963. Doctor Who aired on November 23, 1963. So unfortunate that these two events happened so close to each other. Also, last year, while filming this documentary, the guy who designed The Daleks died. So sad. :(
That's today's history lesson.
trenton bless now both of your posts have nine likes :)
:D
My strongest early memory, aside from "An Unearthly Child", was the sight of "President Kennedy`s" little son, about my age, saluting his "Dad`s" grave, I think, as they lit the Eternal Flame.
I think you are correct. I did visit Kennedy's grave in April.
I was sooo moved by this TV Movie, for someone who a fan of the show and been curious about the beginnings of it. It was done with such delicacy and grace, well done. Your reactions were very real girls xx
You girls have such a passion for the geeky side of this world. You don't have to wear the t-shirts or wear the "brainy specs", you just watch these shows and develop a love and passion (and dare I say a religion) for it. You're both perfect examples to the geeky nation and as you know that being a Whovian isn't just fandom or craze but a lifestyle and my respect for you really is high at how much you've embraced that. Love your videos, girls, please keep up the geekiness strong and stand tall with pride and love for who you are :D
I found your reaction to when Matt Smith showed up to be quite good. When I first saw Matt Smith there, I was balling my eyes out, cause it was like seeing all the history of Doctor Who all at once, all 50 years of it! It all just came flooding up to me! Oh the memories that welled up in me when I saw that. I couldn't help but cry my eyes out.
Took the words right out of my mouth man.
It was great wasn't it.
Another great reaction video girls, I watched An Adventure in Space and Time when it first aired, and I did tear up at parts, especially towards the end and was smiling when Matt Smith appeared, glad I wasn't the only one =)
You should React to "The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot"
im 56 and blubbed like a baby when matt smith appeared.
So did I but I am only 53 so I can get away with it.
You're a little bit older than me(tm) but only just. Jon Pertwee was my first Doctor.
100,000 FineBros wish they could get reactions this genuine...
I love doctor who and an adventure in space and time is the only thing doctor who related that made me cry I was 20 at the time this aired and hartnell is my favourite doctor I absolutely cried my heart out at this
I thought this was better than Day of the Doctor.
I agree with that. The Day of the Doctor had so many missed opportunities and was quite underwhelming and this really got me interested in classic Doctor Who and was entertaining to watch. It did annoy me at the end when Matt Smith showed up though because I felt like he was stealing the spotlight and just giving something for people who don't respect the old Doctor Who to get excited over. It was not needed. It got in the way of the fact that we were supposed to appreciate Hartnell, but I hope that most of us didn't care about Matt Smith appearing just to get a wider audience range.
ClayRealms I don't think Matt Smith appearing was to "get a wider audience range", since I've always been under the impression that Smith was there to represent the potential that Hartnell had always seen in the show, and the future he foresaw the show having. I thought it was a nice touch, but still doesn't detract from David Bradley's performance. I thought he fit the role of Hartnell like a glove and played the part magnificently.
Two thoughts on this:
1) While I thought this was very good, I felt TDotD was far better. In a way, the anniversary was divided into three parts: the celebration of the show's creation (this), the celebration of the Doctors (The Light at the End), and the celebration of the show as a whole (The Day of the Doctor), and personally I just felt that the final one was more enjoyable. But I'm not here to insult your opinion, simply to offer mine.
2) I actually felt that Matt's appearance was a beautiful touch. As Hartnell prepares to leave the show forever (or rather, until The Three Doctors), he looks up and sees his legacy. Matt, without saying a word, communicates the message that "It's 50 years later, and I'm still here. I'm still here because of what you did. You are remembered. You will always be remembered."
georgercop well said!
ClayRealms Matt Smith was there because Hartnell saw the potential of Doctor Who and at his last moments on the show he knew that it would live on forever.
I remember watching this when it premiered in America. It was my first encounter with the show. I'd watch Day of the Doctor a day later, and my life would never be the same.
Trenton Bless Love your WBW reviews😅
"there must no regrets, no anxiety's and no tears"..........Oh Mr Hartnell you could not be more wrong lol
The ending was amazing with your reactions. Keep up the good work girls! ;)
Never knew were a Doctor Who fan, Adik! =D Who's your favourite Doctor from the show?
@@m.sharif_3d Peter Capaldi
@@AdikTheOne Hey same! I really liked the 12th Doctor, too! I also liked the 10th Doctor, David Tennant. He really brought his A-Game in the show, too! =D Nice to see another whovian in this platform!
(Me after watching this)
Right.... in the Feels! :'(
Actually, it aired the day after Kennedy was assassinated.
I always though that, but I'm thinking it was the 22nd in America and the 23rd in the UK, meaning that they did happen in the same 'day'.
***** A common rumour states that news coverage of the killing caused the interruption of the normal television schedule, too, so that on 23rd November, 1963, one day after the assassination, the first episode of the first Doctor Who story, An Unearthly Child, aired five minutes late; however it actually went out only ninety seconds later than scheduled. As the episode was not seen in parts of the country due to a power outage, it was rebroadcast the following week; it is often stated that it was replayed due to the assassination coverage, but this too has been debunked.
only it was rerun because of it, its in the documentary reconstruction says it, was gonna be cancelled because low viewings, a rerun was pushed and stated to give it better chance 'cause everyone was watching the assasination' and it got 10mill viewers
The bit with Matt at the end had me sobbing I must admit
Hartnell loved playing the Doctor because it gave him a new image as an actor. He always played crooks and military figures and the Doctor (his Doctor anyway) was an old grandfather type who was out to fight injustice. That was why Hartnell progressed in this picture from a grumpy old bastard who mistreated poor Judy to a sweet old guy who was good with children.
I want some bloody chocolate milkshake now...
I always do
It's OK. I got some.
Could you react to Musketeers plz? It's with Peter Capaldi!
That's about exactly how I felt watching this. I cried way more than I expected.
When Matt Smith appeared I jumped and yelled out, "THAT'S CANON!" I don't care what anybody says that is canon. :)
I love these girls' videos! I've been watching them regularly since we've gone into this "Doctor Who Wasteland" for the last year. They've made the wait for new episodes so much easier. Sure, there are plenty of other "fan review" videos out there, (some of them even ripping off their "drunk review schtick) but none of them have the chemistry the ChiqueGeeks do! I'm right there with you, ever squee and tear. :)
We there's big finish so
When he said "I don't want to go." my heart just broke. But i loved the end so much.
I still can't believe the guy who plays Hartnell was Filch in the Harry Potter movies.
16:28 I love this reaction. 'What is that ridiculously insensitive woman talking about?'
15:11 I knew that scream was coming! LOL I moved the headphones away so my ears wouldn't get blasted. I love your reactions!
They had to go there, didn't they. Having Hartnell say "I don't want to go"? Oh ... well. You guys are awesome. I've decided.
This is one of my absolute favorite films. And it breaks my heart every single time.
I don't see David Bradley portraying William Hartnell in this, I just see William Hartnell. I wonder what he would think if he were able to see what Doctor Who has become. I just wish that I could meet the guy, and thank him for being the first Hour in my favorite program.
Hehe, that was fun. Matt Smith was definitely a killer moment.
Bawling at the "I don't want to go" line...it just took on a whole new level
You two always have the best reactions and this film was just beautiful. I just about lost it when Matt Smith showed up. Between the premiere of this and the 50th Anniversary special, it was a VERY good week to be Whovian.
This almost made me forgive that guy for killing Robb Stark.
3 things:you guys are awesomeness defined, pleasepleasepleasepleeeeze do a reaction video to the Fiveish Doctors Reboot 'cuz it'd be amazing, & I also think you oughta do a video to episodes of "Too Cute!" on Animal Planet (if you can get it) 'cuz it'd be adorableness beyond anything.
"I don't want to go..."
You just had to didn't you?
Isn't that just like the Doctor? Crossing his own time stream to meet the actor who first brought him to life.
And so touchingly done. No big speeches, just a nod & a smile.
Sydney Newman also was involved in the creation of "The Avengers"; speaking of which, there's a good series you could do reactions to!
I haven't seen adventure in a while since it aired, watching you two just brought back lots of feels :'(
You were not even close to my reaction when matt smith appeared. Best moment ever
I had a feeling that cameo would get you.
I just loved this tv movie.. so well done.. such good acting… and the story moved so well.
this anniversary really is heart-breaking. cause this- is when u see the line 'i don't want to go' is a shout out to the first doctor. T^T
Loving these two. Could be my future companions.
I cry every time I watch this... it's so sad to think what he went through. If only he knew what it is like today
"I don't want to go". Said or unsaid, those will be words said by either the Doctor or to him (or possibly even her in the future) by the fans that love their Doctor.
Love you both, but the drunk reactions feel more personal and wonderful. With your guards down and being more relaxed your reactions are at times wondrous and beautifully personal while echoing the visceral reactions the rest of us feel while viewing Doctor Who and Sherlock. :) There's such a long gap between these finales and the next seasons that I want to make a request... Drunk reactions to some of the Doctor Who minisodes. You could do a big handful while taking the normal amount of viewing time. Just a thought. xoxoxo
(PS - Don't want you to destroy your livers, but it really is a long time until the next seasons start...)
I was tickled to find out that David Bradley had also played Argus Filch in the Harry Potter movies. It hardly seemed like the same person!
+Jennifer Schillig He also played as a villain,Walder Frey!!!
David Bradley is truly an amazing actor. I knew you'd give a great reaction when Matt appeared, the very end clip made me tear up too =[
ill be honest, i was disappointed by the 50th anniversary special, (i still think the episode the doctors wife was worthy of the 50th anniversary special)
Then i watched this which i was thinking (when i saw the pictures from the FB page and the title) i thought it was going to be a story with the 1st doctor (but more like a re-inactment of the cast)
i can say simply this i am a guy (someone at college changed my name and i cannot change it back for 2 years because of google...) i dont cry over anything, sometimes i get a tear in my eye but this made me cry, so when the voting for best whatever came around, i went out my way to vote for it, i think that was the best episode shown on of doctor who to celebrate the 50th anniversary, along with the entire series of last year.
if you have not watched it (if somehow you have not watched it to just watch this which ill be completely confused how you did that!) id recommend it without question.
p.s. for those who just read the comments before watching the video, when you screamed r.i.p. all the headphone users X__X lol Just make sure you dont have it at full wack like i did (Cos i cant reach the thing to lower the volume)
William Hartnell - I want You to belong somewhere.
We do, thanks to You. Me and thousands if not millions of Whovians do belong somewhere thanks strongly to You and the creator of this wonderful show :,)
my reactions exactly! I found the whole TARDIS noise being a piano string particularly interesting.
According to this and The Five(ish) Doctors' Reboot, both Bill and Peter had the same intention: They're doing Who for the fans!
Who came here just to check out the 11th doctor reaction?
No idea if you will see this post as you have so many followers but as with many other people "I don't want to go" brought tears to my eyes. Bill H. loved being the Doctor as did Tom and David. I'm sure the other actors did too but of them all those three stand out as loving the part. Love to you both. Simon, BOS And yes I subscribed:)
When Smith appears I am like "Why is he there? That's fucking Impossible! But he is Still there!"
This is one of the few reaction videos I've ever watched. Your reactions were so genuine and I cried at the same parts you did. I am proud to call you fellow Whovians.
Dammit, I love you girls! Your reactions are amazing and simply wonderful to watch. To me, you're symbolic of every geek, nerd, sci-fi nut and lover of magical stories everywhere, and you should be applauded. Even in your tears, you bring a smile to my face and a warmth to my heart, because I can see the love and joy and emotional bond you have with the shows, and I feel honoured and privileged that you have shared it with us on t' interweb. Long may you geek out!
I hope that you ladies will be doing a reaction video to the first episode when Peter Capaldi takes over full-time as the Doctor.
Watching your reactions to Capaldi's appearance in The Day of the Doctor was (in the words of what appears to be your favorite Doctor)...
Fantastic! Absolutely Fantastic!
Why do I have an awful feeling you don't get ANY classic Who references? Like, why do I doubt you recognized William Russell's cameo?
Loved your reaction when Matt Smith appeared, so much so that I subscribed to your channel.
15:10 sec
My exact same reaction.......!!
LOVED THIS SO MUCH !!!
Good reaction vid! I saw this very show last night on BBC America, and I had the same feels as you gals did ('cept for Matt Smith's cameo, when I was just laughing, crying, and applauding at the same time)!
Please do a reaction video for The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot!
This is the first thing i cried at in 2017...
I know the scene where Hartnell says "I don't wanna go" is heartbreaking, but I cry much more at the scene right before where the policeman tells him "You're in the way, you need to move along sir" because it perfectly encapsulates what he's thinking at the time; doctor who will keep going, but he's in the way of its progress and needs to move along.
THEY DID IT!
OOO WEE OOO! *Waves hands*
I really love these reaction videos. I have been a Whovian since no.4 & I am glad to see that there are still devoted fans out there...
I rarely cry watching Dr Who but I cried watching this and Vincent and the Doctor because they're both very real emotional stories.
Can you please do a reaction video to 'The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot'?
I guarantee there will be no unexpected crying :)
did you two spot all the cameos of the past actors ?
Did the Daleks say Exterminate in their first episode? If not, how did those kids know how to say it?
ThatClassyCombine No, they didn't. It was just a bit of artistic licence :) I think they did say something like "we are only interested in your complete extermination" in response to a plea for mercy but they didn't use the whole Dalek battle cry thing until much later.
ThatClassyCombine My head canon is that she heard that "exterminate!!" and said "Is not a bad idea, it sounds cool!!"
+ThatClassyCombine This is an old thread, I know. But the daleks originally said lots of different words that meant kill. They used to shout things like "obliterate", "annihilate", "disintegrate" and so on. They did say "exterminate" every now and again but it was never originally their iconic saying. Like Jamie Dawkins said, "exterminate" only became their saying much later in the show.
+Josh Oliver like the Cybermen never had a catchphrase until series 2 and then they dropped in in Moffats era and never say it anymore but you'll still see delete everywhere even in the new merch even know they aren't the right ones
Macleanium Excellent comment. You must come to Mondas, where you will become like us.
Love your videos..you two never fail to bring a smile to my lips and a tear to my eye. Ignore the haters.
Of course, this is from an alternate universe. In the real universe, the producer Sydney Newman moved from Canada to the USA where he created Dr Who in America, and it has just celebrated its 50th anniversary. Burgess Meredith was the 1st Doctor of course, but Vincent Price was always my favourite:
Celebrating 50 Years of American Doctor Who
Please react to the 5ish Doctor Reboot!
I had the same reaction as these sheilas, and I'm a big ugly bloke lol! Well done ladies! As time goes by, 'An Adventure in Space and Time' will go down as a Masterpiece
I feel how hurtful it was when you saw Matt because if it's the first time you see it it's AFTER his regeneration....
I love watching your reaction vids its almost like sitting with friends and watching a show together. Keep up the good work girl i appreciate it.
The fireplace and THAT line was emotional enough, then when Matt appeared, one word: Legacy!
I loved this special! His story was so sad, to know he was mean and changing to nice, to learning he was sick and he didn't want to leave doctor who, it was just all sad! Matt's appearance made me cry and the ending made me cry with the "I will come back" This was made so beautifully!
I knew you would cry at the end... it's hard not to :) much love from Denmark
I'm 47 years old, a father of two, and those sad scenes still get to me !!!
the look on your faces was priceless
God you two look just like two girls I know it's almost frightening. XD
