Okay first off, I don't think people say this enough but you are a great interviewer. This was a pleasure to watch. Second, I love Invent Animate. Top listened to artist for me this year. I've listened to Heavener (Definitive) Idk how many times. I was lucky enough to see them live in Calgary this year and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Cannot wait for what they do next.
Thank you so much for the supportive words folks. I enormously appreciate it. So glad to hear you're enjoying these interviews, I absolutely love doing them and am planning to do many more from here on! 💙
smart lyrics from a smart guy!! what a lovely chat. it makes so much sense his music...I had the impression that this band just makes music for the love of music and not for the ego boost. its not about a power play and showing off. its all about being authentic and serving the music as much as possible. i got into invent animate because of without a whisper but damn, every song has something that speaks to my soul and the blend between heavy and soulsearching vocals is perfectly balanced. I hope i can see them again, next time headlining!
I got into metal through this band I was scrolling through UA-cam playlists a while back and stumbled on the metalcore playlist, put it on shuffle and the track that came up was shade astray, it was different since I used to listen to classic rock but I liked it a lot, I listened to the whole album and also got into bands like silent planet and sleep token, and got further down the rabbit hole of subgenres, and then after the album came out they started releasing the other songs, like sleepless deathbed and something I didn't experience with old music is getting to feel a part of it, like it was happening right now with me, and I stayed with metal now I don't like classic rock anymore but thanks for this band for accidentally changing my entire music taste
"Singing is just sexy talking"😅 -- Such a cool way to think about it, and also true as I've found out more and more working on my own vocal development as well. You learn to apply the same technique as you do speaking into singing or even screaming, not some completely different one you'd use when singing vs speaking. It's kind of a psychological (as well as physical) hurdle I've had to get over though as well, to sort of trick myself into getting the right technique into muscle memory, and am still continuing to work on it. Anyways, great interview that was fun to listen to as always and can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves next! Cheers🤘 Also for a future interview request, you should see if you can get the guys from Erra on sometime (either J.T. or Jesse, or both will do, or even someone else in the band), who just released an album recently back in April, and who are also close to the Invent guys (they also used to get a lot of sound comparisons to esch other back in the day, as well as Northlane), and Jesse also helped worked on the production of Everchanger and Greyview, so there's that too. J.T. (the screamer, occasional singer) is also in the band Texas in July, and Jesse (the main singer, and guitarist and main songwriter) has another project he works on, Ghost Atlas, who I'd highly recommend to you as I feel you'd enjoy them a lot (think Erra but no screams, and more post-hardcore/alternative sound, kind of like Saosin whose vocalist Cove, Jesse reminds me a lot of in their styles). You can check out their first 2 eps (Gold Soul Coma, and Immortal Youth), their All is in Sync album, their acoustic Sleep Therapy release, or their latest album Dust of the Human Shape, which came out recently back in January, and is a bit of change in sound for them, still them, just more space and soft moments. Though I'd also highly recommend you check out Erra's previous work too if you haven't heard them, especially Drift and Neon and their self-titled, or even earlier stuff like the Andromeda ep, Impulse, Augment, and Moments of Clarity ep. But id recommend starting recent and working your way back further to hear their sound evolution as you've heard their latest stuff first I assume, unless you want to start with their early stuff first and work forward instead.
Without a Whisper was my top song of 2024. Can't get enough of it.
Marcus Vik is one my top three favorite vocalists in the scene, fucking legend

Fan service project... God damn I hope they rerecord some of the old songs with Marcus's vocals. That would be incredible.
