Please, please, please do not include breeders among the guests you bring on. There is no reason for anyone to breed animals for profit until the last homeless animal has a home. ADOPT DONT SHOP.
@@dao8805 There is nothing wrong with reputable, sustainable breeders who treat their animals with respect and put effort into keeping their gene pools healthy. Not everybody is equipped to handle a rescue. You also don't always know what you are getting into with a rescue, you don't know if they have poor genes and will be sickly, this can lead to very expensive vet bills you may not be able to handle. You also have no idea what behavioral issues they may have due to trauma, bad breeding, etc. that you may not be equipped to handle. Let's not shame people for their decisions because you have no idea what their situation is.
There will ALWAYS be homeless animals because cats and dogs are overpopulated and always will be, whether people breed or don't breed. That's not anything anybody can help breeders or no breeders. Domesticated animals were bred for thousands of years for a reason, especially working dog breeds. They have specific jobs and not all of those jobs can be done by just any dog. Different breeds of dogs and cats contribute to the genetic diversity of the species' as a whole. If breeders didn't exist the beautiful variety of dogs and cats we see today would be gone.
If you're this fervently worried about things like this, next time you say "Aww I love beagles! they're so cute!" maybe think a little deeper as to what you just said and reassess your opinions. How do you think beagles became a thing? Without breeders, they wouldn't have.

MEAN
Vanessa just casually teaching us about the dirtiness of Sphinx cats while Mochi fights for her life 😂
TIL Sphynx cats have dirty bungholes.
I believe anyone who is thinking about getting a Sphinx cat should watch this video. So many times folks want a specialized or "in style" breed, but don't realize that they also need special care. That is why they end up in shelters. JMO
Somebody who was moving and couldn't take their sphinx with them tried to give them to us for free. She was a really sweet cat, but I immediately said no because of videos like this. I do not have the time or patience to wash a cat's butthole every week. 🤣
Guess I am old fashion but I would just want a cat or dog that can take care of it self. Like in the old days.
Just a suggestion - before you adopt or buy any pet, you should research the breed so you know what you are getting yourself into.
I agree with you, but also I can't imagine a sphynx cat being in a shelter for any longer than 5 minutes before someone adopts it or a rescue scoops it up. They shouldn't end up there to begin with though.
Never in the history of shelters, has a a Sphinx ever been dropped off.
"Are you peeing or are you dirty" is a truly haunting phrase
I don't think Mochi was overly bothered by the bath, it just wasn't on their agenda for that exact moment and they were just mad that you were interrupting their exploring 😂
Yeah, she was really just upset that you were ruining her fun adventure
My sphinx always jumped into the shower with my husband for his bath every Sunday. After he hung out in the shower for a while, his nails were a lot easier to clean. Then after the bath, I would roll him up in a warm towel and just pull out one paw at a time. He was so happy to be cozy and warm, he would purr while I cleaned and clipped his nails and cleaned his ears. Trust me and try the cat towel burrito 🌯 🤣
He sounds like such a sweetheart. Love when cats let you burrito them. Mine are too squirmy for it, but they got fur so maybe it just feels icky.
On today's episode: Vanesa wrestles a sphinx cat and wins by a hair(less) and the skin of its nails
(snicker) "wins by a hair(less)" (snicker) I love that!
😂
Because Sphinx cats don’t have fur or whiskers, they have balance issues and have a tendency to attempt to gain balance and assess spatial boundaries by leaning against different types of surfaces. My friend has a new Spinx family member and it took him a while to discover his new surroundings.
I never noticed this about Sphinxes either! Cool facts. Sad for the cats though.
Is that also why the female sphinx didn't want to stop moving?
@@TivonSanders Yes, it’s how they feel the surroundings.
@@chuchu9649 Lol, right you are!!!
YEAH!! Interesting. Thanks for that bit of info😊
"Remember, Hooman, I don't have to worry about your blood staining my fur."
Haha. We need a voice over
XD
As a former Sphynx cat breeder think of Sphynx like human infants. Whatever you want to do to them will be easier when you do it holding them in your arms.
how often do you gotta bathe and cleaning routine??? I LOVE doing it to my doggies but they dont need it that often. Also i find them SOOOOOOO freaking cute and affectionate!! Perhaps we are the perfect match 🥹💕
@@CataBullR I know lots of people say weekly but I don’t recommend more than once or twice a month. The oils on their skin are there for a reason and too much bathing can cause skin problems. I suggest bathing their bodies in a bath then taking them out of the bath and cleaning their ears, nail beds and clipping their nails while you hold them in your lap while giving them treats and lots of praise. Trying to do all that at the bathing area is too stressful we can make it less stressful by breaking it up and doing the tasks separately. I have only two cats now and I only bathe mine once a month but it is true that some cats create more oils and may need a bath every two weeks.
@@crazysphynxcatlady3359random questions but you seem like you’d have the answer:
1. Do all of them likely have a genetic heart condition where they suddenly die? I was told this.
2. Do they pair well with a cat that has hair? I’d love one but have haired cats.
@@alliecat1658 HCM is the heart condition and no not all Sphynx cats have it, yes they are more susceptible to it, reputable breeders test their cats for HCM but unfortunately that only means that at the time of testing they did not have it. Unfortunately that doesn’t mean they won’t develop it or that the kittens they produce won’t get it at some point. However this does not mean that every Sphynx will develop HCM, being more susceptible for a disease does not mean all Sphynx cats have the disease. Whoever told you this knows nothing about disease susceptibility or Sphynx cats. To my knowledge none of my cats or their kittens has ever developed HCM. Yes it can still happen, it can happen to my two remaining cat who are 8 and 6 years old but possibility does not equal inevitably. Even if one of my cats did develop HCM I would never regret owning them and I would get another one as soon as I could because honestly there’s nothing like the love of a Sphynx.
And they love furry animals lol. They like to cuddle up in the fur for warmth. It just depends on the personalities of the two cats and taking the time to introduce them slowly, there’s many articles about the proper way to introduce cats.
Are they anti allergic? I love cats, but...
I forgot how cute the black ones are. He just sat there and passively let you do everything. What a sweetie.
He is absolutely amazing - never seen that colour before. ❤
I’ve never really cared for this breed but these are two of the best looking ones I’ve seen.
I loved the black one also!!
8:06 that kick was personal 😂😂
I felt that through my phone! 😂
I read this comment right when it happened 🤣
~thunk!~
Edit: and then when she started rinsing he literally yelled “NNOOOOO!”
Wet Squid in the tub with the happy hoodie looks like a baby seal.
😂 you're absolutely right!
8:57 did anyone else notice how the towel strings were perfectly around his ears like it was a hat😂😂😂😂😂
It was cute 😂
Always wash your chickens before cooking!
Hahahaha!
These chickens sure put up a fight
and declaw! 😂
😂😂
As a sphynx owner (owned by a sphynx, lol) the best tip when bathing them is to have hot water, like lower regions of h*ll hot... lukewarm water makes my black nekkid girl flee. Hot water - she sits, plays and love it.
And the black nail beds/ear gunk is not dirt, it's skin oil/wax. Most of the time I wipe them with a pet wipe, in between baths.
They are the funniest, smartest monkey/parrot/cats there is, and they absolutely love cuddling under the blanket or duvet with their humans. ❤ I will never ever have another breed of cats than sphynxes, I absolutely love the peachy fuzzy warm little smart*ss*s. 😍😍
They sound delightful 😊😊
so agree, they are like imps or fairies, their personality is just adorable
You are a damn hypocrite. If you loved these animals or had an ounce of compassion in you you wouldn’t buy this breed or encourage others to buy it. You would be calling for bans on breeding purposefully deformed and issue-prone animals who’s entire life will be filled with suffering because some people think it makes them look cute.
They leave butthole prints on any glossy countertops, tables, windowsills ...
Wax and oil attract dirt. Dirt is a combination of dead skin cells, dust, and actual dirt.
Mochi has a big, round belly! More to give big belly rubs to!😍🥰
IDK if it's part of the breed, but I haven't seen a sphynx cat without a little pot belly.
@@carrollkuemper Most cats have a pouch back there as protection when fighting. It just looks bigger on sphynxes because they're naked 👍
IT'S A TRAP!
@@carrollkuemperIt seems as if they are more prone to being overweight or obese. A lot of the ones I’ve seen in videos have been overweight.
@@debbiethemadbee I wonder if they end up eating more to help gain body fat in order to stay warm in lieu of fur?
I used a toddler's toothbrush to clean the nails/nailbeds of my Sphynx. Sometimes a chunk of sebum and dirt gets up underneath the nail and that can be painful. And you're so right about their ears. I would clean them one day, and the next they were dirty again. Same with the nails/beds. Sphynx require much more grooming than most people realize. I'm happy that mine would take a shower with me, so bathing was a snap. This boy was very handsome. (Jan Griffiths).
This exactly how our sphynx looks and acts in the bath too.. every week he gets one and yet he has a meltdown like he’s never had one before. Some never behave in them even if they get one frequently I think. What a cute one!!
Squid looks like a baby seal in that happy hoodie!
One angry alien and one chicken enter a groomer... ❤ they both look beautiful!
My friend had high gloss counter tops, and she found that because of the lack of hair, she was constantly having to clean little butthole prints off of them!❤😂
This comment alone makes me think sphynx cats are not for me 😂
BUTTHOLE PRINTSSS no thanks, count me out lol
Noooooooooooo 😂🫠
😂 Welp, that answers all my questions! No rotisserie chicken kitty for me 😂
STOP
Squid was such a good boy, and so beautiful!
I don't think I've ever seen bath water this dirty, and I've watched a lot of videos of dirty little rescue kittens getting bathed!
a lot of ppl assume sphynx would be low maintenance cos they dont have fur but it actually makes them need grooming way more, they gotta be bathed weekly or they get all gross and oily just like we do lol
@@nckojita Judging by the colour of that bathwater they get more gross than we do lol! Not to worry, I have seen enough videos talking about hairless cats to realise they're a LOT more care, and what for, I don't even know, because they're not any better for allergic people. (I'm allergic, I have a domestic medium hair kitten and I bathed him when I rescued him from an outdoor life... and he was still cleaner lol. I'd rather take my chances with the allergy with him than a sphinx cat, definitely lower maintenance.)
@@aesaphyrMy vet told me that it’s not the hair type/length, but a protein enzyme in the saliva that gets spread around when they lick themselves. I was deathly allergic to dogs and cats as a kid (thankfully grew out of it), but never so much sneezed around a horse because they don’t lick themselves/ use saliva to groom. So enjoy your long haired fur baby, you’re going to suffer either way and it’s totally worth it. 😂❤
@@unicorn_bread Lol yeah your vet is correct (I happen to be a doctor). In my family we're unfortunately the other way round, we start off totally fine around animals then we become allergic in adulthood. I used to think I'd defy the family history but alas.
Lord Beerus is unamused with his bath
I get that reference. 😁
Okay, this gave me a damn good laugh 😂. Where's Whis when you need him?
Exactly.
Underrated comment 😂
best comment here XD
Mochi the acrobat.
Squid lived up to the mysterious sphyxn reputation and left you guessing.
The water got so dirrrrrty, I was surprised.
Lots of dirt, oil, grime gets dispersed into a cat's fur. Hairless ones get noticeably oily & dirty after a week or two. I've heard of sphinx cats rubbing against fabric furniture & walls, leaving oily marks. Some get blackheads. Cannot neglect bathing hairless kitties!
@@fritzkrieg2344 Interesting!
One unfortunate thing is that ppl want a cat that won't trigger their cat allergy, or is low maintenance - they assume hairless cat is the solution- but allergens are in the skin oils too, not just the fur. Sadly can lead to re homing. Such funny creatures..
They are all adorable! I don’t know why people think they are ugly.. they just have no fur lol. Squid is my favorite.. beautiful colors and he seems so calm, but a bit scared. Just makes you want to pick him up and comfort him lol.
Don't forget, all cats look like Sphynx cats under their fur!
When I was a kid, I was determined to get a Sphinx cat specifically because everyone else thought they were ugly so I’d be cool and have a unique cat. Now I’m glad I never pursued that dream 😅
Because they look like something that escaped from a horror film ;-)
I like to think it's just because we're used to cats with fur so our minds need a moment to adjust to the difference, lol.
The thing that converted me was a photo of someone's hairless cat wearing a collar with tiny spikes on it. xD
I love cats, but these have always looked like scrotums on legs to me 🤷🏼♂
Vanessa the noise you made at 0:29 is the same noise I make when I give my chinchilla a treat. She is now looking at me like I owe her something
That's the sound we always make to get our cat's attention or for them to come over to us! I have done that for as long as I have been alive. 😂
Squid was so quiet. I'm glad you talk about what kind of care each breed needs. I think it makes for a much more informed owner. Thank you!
😂😂mochi screaming in the background to Squid "DONT LET HER GET IN YOU THAT TUB, ITS ABSOLUTELY TORTURE I TELL YOU!!!!!"
😂😂😂
It's probably not good for the grooming setup or the camera, but in my experience it's easier to trim nails if you have a cat on your lap. 😊 Hug them with their back to your belly and do one foot at a time. They can't back away, it doesn't twist their paws into a weird position, and you can distract them with head smooches or scritches or just generally have a better hold on them if they get annoyed.
I do this with my Tuxedo cat. I mean cats are liquid & foldable 😂😂😂
That's how I do my kitty at home!! I also tend to just do one or two nails when she's very relaxed.
I tend to do that to but I have to turn my girl around when I do her thumbs and the claws between the thumb and the rest of the paw or I can't clip them, the amount of times she has used my stomach as a springboard...
I tend to do that to but I have to turn my girl around when I do her thumbs and the claws between the thumb and the rest of the paw or I can't clip them, the amount of times she has used my stomach as a springboard...
I have never seen such food-indifferent cats!
They are their own creatures and are members of MGTOW. Meowers going their own way.
I love how she is trying to give commands to a cat “stay” 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭😂😂😂
Some cats know what it means and obey it, believe it or not. My boy Owl would obey "stay" and "come" commands. He was really affectionate, too. Even walked on a leash and harness. I called him my little dogcat.
I taught my cats commands with hand movements so I think it’s probably possible to teach them verbal commands too lol
My ex gf's cat, a small but extremely smart calico named Daisy, knows a lot of commands. For example, "hungry" is the signal for dinnertime and she goes to the food bowl right away. When you say " Daisy jump", she immediately jumps to the top of her cat tree. When you say "Daisy NO" in a stern voice, she stops whatever naughty thing she has been doing and runs to her room. And she is the only cat I've ever seen that adores having baths - as soon as she hears the drawer where the pet shampoo is kept being opened, she makes a happy chirping noise and runs to the bathroom immediately. My ex gf and I used to joke she was half dog :)
My cat knows a few commands, she's just insanely food motivated. Definitely not as reliable as most dogs though, she's a moggy/dsh
One of my cat knows a bit. Decides whether she feels like it. The other cat understands and does exactly what she pleases. I don’t do many commands, like small children I offer two choices. Like small children they like to feel in control.
I used to be a vet tech, and we did all the medical for a local Sphinx cattery. Easily my favorite patients to see… like snuggly little bags of warm velvet. ❤
Squid's kitty timer went off. 😹 Mochi's kitty timer wouldn't even let you set it
With the happy hoodie squid looked more like a seal 😹
Mochi’s ears in the towel strings 🥲
Mochi is like, "UNhappy hoodie."
Also, there ARE bigger baths like this. I recently bought one, 27 liters. Quite the big beast, an entire corgi can easily fit there. Very useful. You can look it up.
Holy wow, even the froth outside of the bath is BROWN! I've never seen that with any animal on this channel before
It's eternally funny how you instinctively use all the dog commands. LOL.
Come here! Stop that! Stay!
Cats have never heard these in their lives.
It's a FOREIGN language to them, that's for sure. 😂
mine are trained with dog commands however they only listen when they want to 😂😂
@@thinkingaboutcicadas I have one from a cattery - and he's really good with commands and generally voice input. My two rescues ignore me diligently most of the time. :-D
Oh, my cat knows *exactly* what I'm saying to him. He just doesn't care. 😅 Cats, in my experience, understand human speech just as well as any dog. The difference is that cats don't care what you think of them, aren't particularly motivated by praise, and thus cannot be bothered to do as they're told.
Cat.."no need to keep repeating your silly commands, I ignored you fine the first time"
They absolutely do grow whiskers, but they come in Curly and brittle. My pink sphinx always had his wiskers break off, so he had perpetual stubble 😆. He did grow some adorable fluff on his nose and tip of his tail as he got older too!
Squid is like my cat. If you can get him into the carrier. Once you get him there he turns into a potato and doesn't move 😂
After a very terrible and long 10 days filled with stress 24/7, watching this helped me finally relax. I'm not a groomer and this is the only grooming channel I've watched. Whether it's dogs, cats or the infamous Mayo, these videos are always educational and fun.
Thanks for helping me crack a smile and forget about life for a while
Also, that is not necessarily dirt on them their body oil stays on their skin, their nails, their chins, and their ears, because there is no fur to absorb it and take it away from the body. it is the same amount of oil that regular cat would get and also contains shed dead red blood cells which are excreted through the skin and caused the brown color which is often called rust
The brownish color you see on their ears and their feet is very much from this oil and the rust and maybe some dirt sticking to it, but it is natural and normal. You’re right in the fact that Cats even when bathe at the same time have different amounts of dirt it has more to do with genetics and what they’re being fed that is excreted as waste through not just their poop but also body oil. 6:23
Yes but the oil attracts dust and dirt. So it is dirt.
Squid looked like a baby seal with happy hoodie in the bath tub❤️💕🐱❤️
With the happy hoody in the bath he looks like a little seal
Sweet Squid was so scared and putting on a brave face.. seems like he really just wanted a hug when he tried to climb you.
Look at those eyes!!
Disposable mascara spoolies are really good for cleaning out their nails . I used them on my cat .😂
Soft, warm, but Angy frën
I love how the cat gave you the bombastic side eye when you stoped her from escaping the bath 😂
Vanessa, you are so thorough in your cleansing of the animals you groom!! You can tell you love what you do and are definitely gifted with patience and love for animals! I hope the owners appreciate that!!!❤
WE'VE BEEN BLESSED WITH THE GROWL thank you mic
Something I have learned from human ear cleaning videos is that a good part of ear wax is actually shedding skin, so Mochi having such dark wax is probably at least some part having dark grey skin.
08:06 lol, donkey kick....good thing she hit the wall instead of you!
I came to watch the pets, I stay because of all I learn about different breeds. You are very informative while still letting the cuteness shine.
I have never really cared for this type of cat but Squid changed my mind. Such a cutie
Showing the world, the brown wax inside of a cat ear is a good thing. Also, the hoodie is working for squid however it obviously terrified Mochi.
To be fair to the owner: Being the sweetest isn't equal to the most compliant!
You could probably use a sanitized high walled “litter box” for bathing larger cats. Just a thought.
The side eye in the happy hoody 😭😂
Thumbnail looks similar to my Sphinx, Bronte...who recently turned 13....she just got a bath this morning. Anyone thinking about a Sphynx...the oil on their skin doesn't have a hair shaft to go down, so it goes on you, your clothes, your furniture. And regular bathing is a must at least once a week...at least for my girl.
My cat wouldn't eat that treat either. I got her to eat one once, but never again. But Temptations, she goes crazy for.
My kitties will wash the dishes, the car, and clean the bathroom for a Churrru.
This is why I don’t plan to get a sphinx until my kids are grown up and I’m old so I can devote the time for their hygiene needs and be able to give plenty of attention and love.
At the very beginning with Mochi, I love the optimism of just standing at the table and loudly saying, "Come here!".
Videos like these are why I watch this channel - so informative!!
They look like a naked chicken from Costco ready for the rotisserie. Sphinx cats are very Egyptian looking. Squid has a gorgeous face.♥️
LOL Squid wanted more pets before going into the crate. :)
I love both furbabies and skinbabies, but there really is something to be said about the Sphynx ability to frown. I LOVE the frowning!
I love the cat ones💜🇨🇦👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Mochi is exactly what my DSH does when I clip his nails-EXTREMELY wiggly
Squid is GORGEOUS!🐈❤😍
I loved the finality of closing and locking the door on Squid. "Thank goodness that's over."
Ahhh towels work. They are the only way I can trim my cat’s nails. The gloves look like they are very nice for the skin of the four footed ones.
I liked the attitude of the last one who resisted all forced direction in or out of his crate.
Calm, but unsure gradient bebby for second one.
Squids, golden-green eyes are lovely! 🥰
Vanessa, have you learned how to sleep semi awake- says my cat who meowed at the cats as if to say "get her!".
Hairless cats are underrated, They're cute
Yay! Caught a post early! Thank you for demonstrating all kinds of approaches to an anxious or resistant dog! Absolutely love your commentary too!
Ive never once looked at any hairless cats and thought how pretty they were until now!! Lol i genuinely think this one is adorable! So pretty ❤
I love Sphynx kitties, they are absolutely freaking adorable, they look like the squishiest cuddliest cats
Those are really pretty Sphynx putty tats, especially the last one!! Another fun unusual critter!!
If you would sit on a flat surface and put them in between your legs, it will be so much easier to clip the nails. I had my sweet Mollie kitty for 23 years and clipped her nails regularly and that was the way I did it. She didn’t love it but she tolerated it and didn’t move around.
i feel like the hesitation for them to go back in the crate is cuz now theyre clean and their crate still has all that dirty residue from before 😂
unbelievable how dirty that water in the bath looked 😳
Sphynxville is a cute channel where the owner uploads his sphynx bathing every Sunday❤
That high maintenance is a reason I'm not getting a Sphynx - that and they are MUCH more active and I just cannot with that. I need a couch potato cat lol
But my mother's cat Spade had the ear trouble and I learned how to clean cat ears. SO. MANY. Q-TIPS. Spade was a long haired - Norwegian Forest Cat, I think - but his ears were just gunky all the time. But so long as I cuddled him in my lap while cleaning, he tolerated it. He wasn't thrilled - but he didn't maul me.
What a naughty girl! She really didn’t like her paws being washed 😂😂😂 The little boy cat was so good 🥰
Mochi reminds me of my cat. Both are good in the sense of never attacking, but not remotely willing to sit still-too busy
For being named Squid, he didn't thrash nearly as much as you'd expect. I nominate Squid as Best Boi.
Vanessa: As the daughter of a Persian cat breeder, I have a tip for you when struggling to clip a cat's nails. If you tuck the backside of the cat under your arm/into your armpit while they're in your lap and then lean over them, you've got a good and secured cat and can much more easily do their nails without them thrashing around/trying to escape. It was painful watching what was happening with Mochi, where it looked like she was going to get a leg dislocated with her escape attempts.
These cats might be used to being bathed, but they don’t know you and they don’t trust you. That is why they are trying to step out of the small tub. Thank you for putting them in a small tub of water and not just spraying them with the hose. 6:01
I used to be a bit squicked out by these cats but after seeing a lot of them, I still find them a bit fugly, but they still do adorable cat stuff so they still make me smile.
After bath I wrap mine into towel like a baby and make him sit on my lap. Warm always makes him more calm. And then clean his ears and nails.
Aww, what absolutely cute cats!❤ All the best to everyone.
They looked like little seals with the pink cover over their heads. I don’t normally find Sphinx cats cute but these two are adorable!
I miss Vanessa’s “hello?” she usually says when encountering a cat in a carrier.
That growl just purring right to the centers of our souls
