Despite Goodwin's absence during SV's 2nd visit to the USA in 1899-1900, much was recorded by others ! About half of was from the lectures during his 2nd visit. This became possible with the 'Magnetic Healing' of Mrs. Walden in Southern California and Paris.
Prof John Venn (1834-1923) primarily a Mathematician by training at Gonville and Caius College Cambridge, but he hated the Tripos rigour, though the 6th Wrangler in 1857 when he graduated; he might have taught Henrietta Muller who studied Moral Science Tripos at Girton College, Cambridge University after 1874, with Political Economy, Philosophy and Psychology as her subjects. Though Venn was in another college in Cambridge it's possible he taught her. In Venn's disgust about Maths, he even got ordained an Anglical Priest in 1859 (obviously related to his own family training, his grandfather John Venn and father Henry Venn were both Evangelicals) shortly after his own Tripos, but returned to Cambridge to teach from 1862 onwards. But Goswami doesn't mention these about Venn; I really don't believe Venn could have said words to the effect 'Aamaar dharme-tarme kono mati nei' (4:00 to 4:14 mins in the video). I don''t agree that Vivekananda was a logician, though Venn used to teach political economy, philosophy, probability theory and logic at Cambridge.
Unfortunately Tarun Goswami continues the distortion of Vivekananda's evolution of the four Yogas (Raja, Jnana, Karma, Bhakti) by giving all importance to J. J. Goodwin and not even mentioning Leon Landsberg (Swami Kripananda) who contributed EVEN MORE in producing these original Yoga books. It should be noted that Goodwin met SV for the first time AFTER December 6, 1895, when SV returned to New York from his first summer trip to Paris and England. SV stayed at 54 West 33rd Street WITH Sw Kripananda from January 27, 1895 to August 17, when SV left for Paris with the Leggetts. Kripananda used to deliver his own talks during SV's absence from New York on behalf of the Vedanta Society. It was in December 1895 in New York that three Yoga books resulted from SV's talks and Goodwin, Waldo and Kripananda all prepared transcripts. M. L. Burke clearly wrote that E T Sturdy published the Karma Yoga and Bhakti Yoga books in England from the original script typed by Kripananda in New York. Goodwin had faithfully taken down the transcripts of the classes but before publication they were edited by Miss Waldo and Laura Glenn (Devamata).
