You wouldn't be mad if Oregon loses the first playoff game they play this year? It's time for both Oregon and Lanning to win a Natty. Anything less is a disappointment. For over 2 decades Oregon has disappointed late in the season. This is the year they need to change that.
@@kevinbond8966I agree with you that this year is our best chance yet to win a national championship. But I do have to say with the players returning and the signing class for 2025, we should have another great chance next year and I’m assuming as long as we have Dan Lanning from here on out we will always have a great chance to win a natty
Oregon does have the highest average recruit ranking in On3, 247, and Rivals. Just a smaller class this year. ... And they do indeed have the #1 class according to Rivals. I would not trade Oregon's class for any other. They got the best group at the high end this year.
Oregon also flipped a QB/Safety/Baseball star Mark Weipert 6'3 215 from Wilsonville Oregon that had committed as mainly a baseball player to baseball power Oregon State. He has only been a QB one year but in the state title game threw for 271 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 169 yards and five touchdowns and oh he was last years defensive player of the year as a Safety, due to playing offense and defense the coach limited his time this year until the last two games in the playoffs so his regular season stats are not insane so he just got three stars but he has similarities to both Justin Herbert and Bryce Boettcher two other underrated HS players in Oregon that the Ducks saw as diamonds in the rough. The Hawaii QB is going to have his hands full beating this kid out at the QB slot and if this kid loses the battle just move him to safety where he was a big time player not to mention the baseball team gets a great player as well, he is the third two sport standout signed by the Ducks, another was a baseball star and a third was a top level hoops recruit from North Carolina in the 2026 class as a 6'7 TE.
It started with the words “Kenny Wheaton’s gonna score” but when Lanning said “The grass is pretty green in Eugene.” is when we turned the corner. He's been very inconsistent his senior year in HS. 18 TD 11 picks. I think that's why Dan went hard after that dude from Cal. Granted, our QB room is still stacked with Moore for the next 2 years (hopefully) with the new crop of WRs starting with Tez, Stewart, and Holden (let alone Ferg and Herbert) , leaving, we needed some dogs and I'm sure we'll nab a few transfers.
I've been saying this since last year. Ducks will win a national championship with Dan Lanning. This year is a great year to do possibly do it, but they're set up to try again years down the road with the recruiting class they've pulled.

It's not hard. They were already one of the best programs who hasn't won a natty before NIL. They have a open checkbook for NIL with Phil Knight and they play in a horrible conference. They didn't do anything spectacular on signing day. Saban and Kirby didn't just have the best players, they're phenomenal X's and O's coaches as well. They recruit just as good as they game plan. If you think Oregon is going to win on talent alone, you know nothing about football. They question is, why hasn't Oregon one a natty already?
Because in their first National Championship they missed a field goal. In the second, their top 2 WR's and an elite corner were out. More broadly they didn't have the recruiting stars combined with good coaching to win it all. Cristobal gave us the recruits, but he can't coach. Dan Lanning can do both.
