Who Wants to Live Forever - Live Performances by Queen + Adam Lambert (2012-2020)

- THE ESCALATION OF “WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER”
Since we’ve just seen the QAL documentary on Netflix this week, we should be all hype right now with songs of Queen, including “Who Wants to Live Forever.” Adam Lambert’s epic vocal in his live performance of that song from the Isle of Wight festival was featured on the last part of the docu (which teared me up 🥺) and since then, I cannot stop listening to it, especially those high notes after the bridge! And so I thought I’d do a video compilation of his live performances of that song over the past 8 years focusing on those high notes.
I have lots of realizations from seeing Adam singing this song for 8 straight years. They are as follows:
1. The transitions of Adam’s looks and image year by year are so visible, wow. We could see the change in the hairstyle, face,bbody figure and fashion. My favorite ones are his looks from 2013 - 2015 which, as I’ve been telling always, is his looks from “The Original High” days that I love 😍 and his looks in 2018, he looked so sophisticated and mature with that hairstyle and outfit. 🥰
2. In 2012 and 2013, Adam was still doing the high note at the end before the last line. Since 2014 he was not singing it that way, which is actually fine to me because for me, it’s better that way.
3. But notice that in 2015 and 2018 - 2020, he had extra runs of notes and the extra high note in the last “live forever” which give me goosebumps because he was doing two succeeding high notes, imagine! 😳😱
4. I could have chosen for 2016 his performance from the Isle of Wight festival, but I rather chose that video with the green hair so we could know that for once he dyed his hair green and then next year 2017, his hair was red! He really looked like a rockstar with those hair colors and the sleeveless shirts with the tattoos on his arms.🤘🏻
5. I love Brian May’s stare at Adam with a smile on his face in the 2013 video. It reminds me very well of how happy Roger and Brian are to have met Adam 🙂 I love all the moments when Adam was standing beside Brian May while belting the high notes and Brian rocking with his guitar. 🤘🏻
6. Adam had been performing this song for 8 years. But if you can notice, he kept sounding better and better as the years went by. He did not have to lower the key of the song during the latter years. He kept singing the song in the original key and he even levelled up his singing in the years 2018 -2020! As a matter of fact, the most excellent vocals in this video for me happens to be the most recent video, which is the Feb 2020. This just proves that as he ages, his singing voice keeps improving! The older he gets, the less struggle it seems when he sings!
7. I just found out that Adam has been touring with Queen for 8 STRAIGHT years and counting, because they were supposedly set on tour for the entire year but then was already rescheduled to next year. And then in between those 8 years, he had a solo career and “The Original High” days wherein he also had a world tour. I AM NOW MUCH MORE IMPRESSED with the genuine dedication of Adam as a musician. I can imagine more now how unusual it must be the feeling for him to suddenly stop performing on live audiences for the rest of the year due to this coronavirus pandemic. 🥺
HE IS LITERALLY BORN FOR LIVE PERFORMANCES and this video compilation is the proof!
But the best thing I can say about this video is that I am so proud of Adam for giving so much justice to this epic song by Queen as he ages. His looks might have been changing year after year, but the quality and conviction he has been pouring in performing this song never changed a bit. 💚

So amazing how Adam’s voice has remained so strong and powerful over the years. It must be due to his training and him taking excellent care of it. He sounds phenomenal, each and every year.

That’s why I enjoy doing these video compilations of Adam’s live performances of a particular song through the years - it just blows my mind to realize how he was much better during the recent years instead of toning down as years go by because he has become older. But the more he ages, the stronger and richer his voice turns out to be!

This is HIS song...Freddie never sang it in public..after all these years his vocals are unmatched. I was going to London to see them, hoping it happens next year.
Nah I’ve seen a couple of videos of Queen with Freddie performing this song live. But yeah, the song was lowered by one key and the strength of Freddie’s singing was not the same as how Adam has done it over the years. Much respect to the late Freddie, but Adam’s version and interpretation of this song is on a much different level that it will always make you think this is his song for real. 🙌🏻

@@charmainederrr8426 Brian May has said they play the songs, and Adam sings, in the original key the songs were written.
TheRealDuckBert Yeah, except for “I Want to Break Free” and “I Was Born To Love You” which have been both lowered by one key in every QAL performance since the beginning. And I’ve seen a few videos as well of “The Show Must Go On” wherein the song was lowered by one key. Maybe Adam’s voice was so strained or tired already that they had to do it. But it was never done for “Who Wants to Live Forever” ♥️

Adam is ok? No one can sing this as incredibly as he can, dare I say, even Freddie. My opinion.
The Jan 2020 is the best from this compilation. It's incredible how he's become better, when he was already amazing from the start.
That’s actually the huge revelation in ALL video compilations of Adam I have done so far - the recent years are the much better and more astounding vocals instead of getting toned down year by year because of course he gets older and older. Shows that the vocal talent is really there over the years. With that I know I am supporting the right artist. So proud.

My favorite performance of this is at the Isle of Wight in 2016. Adam was deeply moved by the mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub. Roger said he had never heard it sung like that before and that no one can outsing Adam Lambert. Freddie did have more range as he was a baritone that could go up to a high tenor. He didn't go to the high notes a lot of times in concert but he was so physically active it would be difficult. He could hit them live and was an amazing singer. He didn't have the advantage of being filmed on his image put on big screens so he made sure the audience in the back could see him too and under the hot lights. There are a lot advantages bands have now. The LED lights they use make it more comfortable on stage. Bands like Queen that used the lights as part of their show really had the heat.
So so Good. 2016 is the best, so emotional. When he sang that song, I felt it.

That is indeed the most celebrated live performance by QAL of this song, but I decided not to put that for 2016 in this video compilation and instead put this video with the green-haired Adam so as to show that for once Adam dyed his hair green while touring with Queen :) Well actually right now his hair is green again haha. If you’re his huge fan, you must be updated about that. :)

Yeah, it’s really impressive how during the much recent year when Adam got older, his execution of the vocals was more complicated compared to the earlier years, and the song still being in the original key. Just proves he gets better vocally (and even physically) with age! 🔥 thanks for your feedback!

I do think he’s been very glad since 2011 when QAL began. Freddie will be glad to see younger generations of people enjoying Queen music because they are kept being sung and performed on stage by Brian and Roger with Adam.
