I agree. Even an updated WR300R would do well honestly. Just bring the small bore WR dual sport back with a slightly stronger engine that has more low end grunt and the newer headlight from the other WR bikes and you automatically have a winner in the marketplace without having to invest in a ton of R&D.

@@OtisFlint I know, but I mean, Yamaha didn't renew at all their 2strokes bike during these year... Yeah I know small changes has been made, but that's it!
Here in Europe we don't even get a Yamaha yz with wide ratio, we just get the the Mx version. A friend of mine rode his yz125 to the 6days, but it's a Mx bike made street legal (Yamaha doesn't sell street legal 2strokes here) with a 18' rear and a headlight: That's it! (Spoiler alert, he wished multiple times to have an e-starter but Yamaha said "nope")
Until now, this was the only option we had. I'll make an example, in Europe the not so "brand new" Fantic Xe125 (yz125x basically) is one of the most sold bikes of them all! That's because all the Yamaha guys went for them! They saw a street legal Yz, but made by fantic; And this example is also valid for the 4 strokes category. Notice how Yamaha doesn't have ANY team in EnduroGp or WESS, they only compete in MX/SX.
(Fantic has multiple teams in Mx and the enduroGp team E50 which is the one that's using the Xe300 engine)
The Collab between fantic and Yamaha started almost 3 years ago, and in all this time Yamaha didn't care to use all the research made by fantic to join the enduro market, they just don't care at all.

I have been riding yamaha since 1967. I ride a 2020 yz250x now. Yes I have had kawasaki, ktm, husky, steens, Rickman, Honda, gasgas bikes too but always go back to yamaha. Raced motocross, enduro, and now trail ride 98% of time. I like 4T and 2T 50/50. Like having both.
I have to tell you my yz250x is my favorite so far. Yes I would like an electric start even though I stall much less than most others I ride with that have electric start. I have to try harder not to stall due to lots of good technical riding I do and many places tough to restart with kickstarter not having clearance.
I ride with approx 45 other riders. Actually over 100 riders in our grp that ride most every week as well as friends from other states and Canada.
I wish I had the fantac 300. I would love to test it and show it off here in the states. I am actually getting ready to head out for 9 months to a yr riding all over the US and Canada. I was hoping the Fantic 300x would of already been released here in US. YZ250x is great 90% of the time but 300x grunt would be great along with electric start. 5 spd or 6 spd not sure witch I like better. 95% time don't need another gear so not a deal breaker.
My stock carb works great with the main and pilot jet minor change. Also for various elevations from 1000 ft above sea level to 14,000 I just adjust the air fuel mixture screw. Do this quite often because I ride desert and even a little snow with several altitude levels between. Arizona has it all including dunes.
I would love to by the Fantic, test it and write about the pros and cons and make suggestions improvements. Nice thing about yamaha is the rims don't crack and stay true without having to retorque spokes, the engines are very reliable including clutch and piston very slow to wear. I use synthetic in gear box and 2T mix. Also chain.
I ride many of the new bikes that come out but always happy to throw my leg over my yamahas. Handling, performance, reliability, looks is always complimented from previous yamaha owners. Even though they are riding ktms, huskies, sherco, gasgas, honda, those that owned yzs in the past most always say their YZs were great bikes.
I would like to get my hands on a fantic 300. I have heard that yamaha is going to build the 300x but I have been waiting for that to happen for several years. Let me know if I could get the Fantic and I am ready to make it happen.

Yamaha, like all Japanese manufacturers abandoned 2 stroke development many years ago which is why the only changes to the YZ250 are cosmetic and bolt on component, because of stricter emission requirements all the Japanese manufacturers deemed it unprofitable to further develop 2 stroke technology, unless Yamaha decides to change the way they do business you will not see the YZ250 engine change, the major expense of changing all the tooling and the engineering support required to make that expense profitable is a risk that Yamaha is just not willing to make, they literally handed the whole 2 stroke market to the Europeans and KTM saw the opportunity and ran with it and now dominate it because they have no real competition when it comes to bringing R&D into full scale manufacturing, one off hand built concepts are one thing but rarely do they ever develop into full scale production models available to the general public and when they do they are usually no where near what the original concept was.

The FI system looks like the modified TSP system that they are currently offering for the TPI's (one injector in the cylinder and one injector before the throttle body). The starter location is interesting, 4t's use that but for some reason the "all new" '23 KTM 2t's still have the starter under the motor and directly driving the ignition flywheel. KTM might do that to be lighter or maybe it offers a mechanical advantage, making the 2t's start better as they need more starter RPM than the 4t's to start.

    • @rostifardian
      @rostifardian Рік тому

It’s due to the carb/throttle body location on both bikes. A 4 stroke, the carb feeds into the head, above the cylinder. So the carb sits high above the transmission leaving room for the starter motor to sit underneath it.
A 2 stroke, the carb feeds under the piston, putting the carb intake right at the base of the cylinder. The float bowl is just barely above the transmission. So they relocate the starter on 2 strokes.
Plus 2-strokes don’t require more starting RPM’s (on a well running motor) because every downstroke is a power stroke. It’s firing twice as many times as a 4-stroke.

You would think so, but actually no. In fact, a bike mechanic friend of mine owned a Fantic for many years. (2010 model). As an experiment he decided to not wash the bike and did not wash air filter for 1 year. (and did no othe rmaintenance other than tighten the chain). The bike continued to work fine. Didn't even seem to be bothered by the dusty air filter. At the end of the year he pulled the air filter off and it was still clean inside the air boot. Anyway it's an interesting test - I wouldn't do it on my own bike, but proves they make reliable machines.
