The fate is set in stone, and no will, no power, no preparation, no desire, could ever change it. This is Dan Abnett telling us "This is my claim, and with my hand I make it so."
The best quote to me comes early in the video, where Malacador realizes his faith in the emperor was true and he had proof. “Someone else has reached in past me and performed the deed like the god he is not, but appears to be” that is some S tier level writing.
I listened to it in audible and no lie, got chills when Malcador reacted to the Emperor standing from the throne AND the Emperor saying "I am the end and the death".
This was scary, creepy, and eerie as heck. Imagine the custodians, adeptus freaking custodians, screaming and shrieking batshit insane charging at the emperor whilst weeping blood in a ship with living walls and writhing flesh. Holy shit GW.
The Dark King aka potential 5th chaos god was perhaps the best thing about this book. Makes an event that was already legendary in the lore far more urgent.

How could the Eldar create a Chaos God, but humanity *not* create one? The book never says the Chaos Gods "wanted" a 5th God, only that the conflict would create one (Actae also states, almost outright, that intensity of the Emperor's fight with Horus is *the thing* that will create the Dark King). Hence, the whole reason Oll Person is trying to prevent it. Ollanius hasn't sided with the Emperor (yet, if he ever does). He's planning to kill both of them if he has to.
As a total lore casual, I thought these events were already depicted decades ago in some form or another. But I am still absolutely thrilled to experience this series.
They were definitely covered to some degree, and you're right, not everything is new (we knew for example the teleportation split up the loyalists) but this is the first we've properly had the event expanded upon. Pretty mad when it's been lore for 30 years!

I never knew the reason why Constantine Valdor was depicted as batshit insane in the tts show, but knowing he's cutdown countless demons, which are in and of themselves almost unknowable on an individual level, and is taught basically everything about them when he kills them, it makes sense now. On a certain level he knows more about demons than even Tzeentch does.
Remember, the vengeful spirit is now a living demon, he stabbed it and uttured its real name, hence gaining true power over it. The emps seems to always has a plan

Chaos gods are doing what they have done to the eldars. Sacrificing humans and their home world to bring into being another chaos god. Malice? Wrote this before u mention the same conclusion I came to.
This is being debated a lot online, and mostly by people who haven't read the book it seems. The book makes it pretty clear that Horus has "twisted the souls" of the custodians and they actually have the thoughts "the emperor must die", "he is a tyrant". So it's really how you interpret that. This is different to a typical "corrupting" imo, as it requires Horus and the Chaos gods to exert a lot of power to do so, and they are at least on some level aware of this control, and are fighting against it. So it's more mind control than corruption in my opinion, but thisll be debated to death in the coming years I suspect.
@@SandmanofTerra I think that's a good distinction. Corruption is when the person thinks the will of the Dark Gods is their own thoughts. In the case of Control, you KNOW what is being told to you is wrong, but wrestling your will from the Commands is a pain. Plus, I don't think it changes the lore of the Custodes. No Custodes has fallen and it took nothing short of Ultra Chaos Ascended Horus and all Four Dark Gods at full attention to get even THIS done to them.
My argument to say that chaos dint corrupt the custodes is. Not a single moment they praised the dark gods, not for a single moment they screamed "for chaos" or "fot horus", they only tought that the emperor id a tyrant, and he must be killed
And then there are people who believe that Sanguinius could have beaten Horus at THAT stage lol💀. Horus during that final battle was probably just as powerful as the Emperor himself, even multiple primarchs simultaneously would have straight up been killed by him.
I think people like myself like the alternative idea where Sanguinius succumbs to the black rage and kills Horus, while the emperor watches in horror as his favorite son turns back in a black rage against his own father where the emperor has to slay sangangius not wanting to but had to because he was wounded already. It’s just a cool lore idea but now that the books have painted more emphasis on how powerful Horus was we can probably safely say Horus killed the golden hawk boy.

@@kerrytyk111 pretty much, so the Horus heresy was kind of developed over time. Arbitor Ian has a great video explaining the process, that I'd recommend watching. But even as it took shape it was mostly described in vague detail in the "old lore". So eventually black Library decided to properly expand on it and so over the past 20 years or so there's been 62 novels, the siege of terra books and a load of novellas.
The custodes almost seem more like the emperors children then then primarchs sometimes, imagine having to kill your perfect children, your pride and joy. The peak of your genetic and loving achievements. Then you are forced to just slaughter them by the dozens if not hundred. Maybe if ra was there it would have been different.

I'll be real made if it wasnt some like 1 vs 100 if not more seriously powerful demons and even then they bairly got the sword, or maybe its presence in his body began to weak him mentally physically something. You cant tell me that abadon just walked up killed him and took the sword no matter how hard a 1v1 it is ra would've torn him apart at like 50% strength.

Custodes going mad was the best part. It's even explained later from multiple perspectives. Loyalist and traitor alike were expecting a huge trap on the Vengeful Spirit. But there was no trap... except pure chaos. Even Horus' own soldiers are shocked when the loyalists arrive and have prepared no defence. Horus' madness was just a way to blind the Emperor to expect a battle, instead of a shell of utter darkness to turn his own guards against him.
Do you guys think it is worth just reading this and the last one? I know a lot of lore from youtube but havent read any book of the horus heresy series. I am currently listening to the three Eisenhorn ones. I am just not thrilled to go through all the horus heresy books even if they are great.
It's tough to say, but if you are confident that you have a very good understanding of the heresy and SoT, you'll probably be fine reading just those. There will be some characters who you'll have to Google, but tbh, as someone who's read the Horus heresy, there are so many characters occasionally I have to remind myself who is who 😂
I honestly suggest that even if you have a fair understanding of 30k timeline and what happens in 40k. PLEASE read/ listen to the entire SoT series. It is just that Good. I personally didnt read the whole Horus Heresy.. but these 8 books are something else. Jonathan Keeble especially for his voice work
@@SandmanofTerra sanguinius made the chunk in his armor and garviel will interrupt horus and give the emperor time to finish horus, thats how i know the lore( there was only a soldier that comes earlier in the lore) but after this book it must be garviel 🙂
@@azalikmar2 eisenhorn is the most popular recommendation in my experience and it's certainly great. Just awesome sci-fi kind of crime thrillers. The Horus heresy is very large and therefore intimidating, but it's where I started and I wouldn't change it for the world so if you're up for the challenge, I'd say go for it! The Primarch novels are imo very good for people newish to the hobby but have a decent grasp of what space marines/primarchs are. They're relatively short, action packed, and usually self contained (satisfying endings) but lead into larger things depending on the characters you like

Though if you're all about heresy, the first 3 Horus heresy books are amazing. Sorry it's tough to give a definitive answer because they're all so good imo 😂

And at the end when (some narrator i dont remember) is describing what could be the possible fifth god of chaos, it seems like they are talking about Horus, but to me it seemed that everything that was being described suited what the emperor became after the heresy, a dark god of death

In this series it kind of makes him seem like a bumbling idiot and that just doesn't feel right.

Honestly, Horus was on the verge of godhood, not some run of the mill demon prince. If it was ANYONE else, the custodes could have easily resisted being puppeteered, but not here. And I doubt Grey knights could do better than them.
@@SandmanofTerra its funny how they say he was born in the early days of the age of strife but the timeline GW gives puts him around 2000 years before the DAT ends. he was there to witness it which is why I believe when the emperor showed up he immediately "surrendered" because they knew each other prior.

Does the part about the Custodes turning against the Emperor make the lore about Custodes being incorruptible changed?
I'd say not. They didn't "Turn" so to speak. Instead Chaos used them as meat puppets
This is being debated a lot online, and mostly by people who haven't read the book it seems.
The book makes it pretty clear that Horus has "twisted the souls" of the custodians and they actually have the thoughts "the emperor must die", "he is a tyrant". So it's really how you interpret that.
This is different to a typical "corrupting" imo, as it requires Horus and the Chaos gods to exert a lot of power to do so, and they are at least on some level aware of this control, and are fighting against it. So it's more mind control than corruption in my opinion, but thisll be debated to death in the coming years I suspect.
@@SandmanofTerra I think that's a good distinction. Corruption is when the person thinks the will of the Dark Gods is their own thoughts. In the case of Control, you KNOW what is being told to you is wrong, but wrestling your will from the Commands is a pain.
Plus, I don't think it changes the lore of the Custodes. No Custodes has fallen and it took nothing short of Ultra Chaos Ascended Horus and all Four Dark Gods at full attention to get even THIS done to them.
My argument to say that chaos dint corrupt the custodes is. Not a single moment they praised the dark gods, not for a single moment they screamed "for chaos" or "fot horus", they only tought that the emperor id a tyrant, and he must be killed

And then there are people who believe that Sanguinius could have beaten Horus at THAT stage lol💀. Horus during that final battle was probably just as powerful as the Emperor himself, even multiple primarchs simultaneously would have straight up been killed by him.
I think people like myself like the alternative idea where Sanguinius succumbs to the black rage and kills Horus, while the emperor watches in horror as his favorite son turns back in a black rage against his own father where the emperor has to slay sangangius not wanting to but had to because he was wounded already. It’s just a cool lore idea but now that the books have painted more emphasis on how powerful Horus was we can probably safely say Horus killed the golden hawk boy.
@@Dr.Gainzzz also it would be unnecessary to showcase Sanguinius' power anymore since he already did quite a lot at the siege.

I have loved u for so long,but when u keep checking your channel over and over without anything new you will be forgotten. I myself has forgotten u at least three times. I cant say but it seems u have a day job and does youtube for fun kinda. But if you would dedicate 1,5-2 months on creating content im soo fing sure you can quit that pesky 9-5. @@kerrytyk111 pretty much, so the Horus heresy was kind of developed over time. Arbitor Ian has a great video explaining the process, that I'd recommend watching.
But even as it took shape it was mostly described in vague detail in the "old lore". So eventually black Library decided to properly expand on it and so over the past 20 years or so there's been 62 novels, the siege of terra books and a load of novellas.

The custodes almost seem more like the emperors children then then primarchs sometimes, imagine having to kill your perfect children, your pride and joy. The peak of your genetic and loving achievements. Then you are forced to just slaughter them by the dozens if not hundred. Maybe if ra was there it would have been different.

I'll be real made if it wasnt some like 1 vs 100 if not more seriously powerful demons and even then they bairly got the sword, or maybe its presence in his body began to weak him mentally physically something. You cant tell me that abadon just walked up killed him and took the sword no matter how hard a 1v1 it is ra would've torn him apart at like 50% strength.

I wish i was at least a little surprise but im not, its make sense since the Emperor is most powerfull psyker his emotions radiate and plus to the primarchs are made from his own blood are very conected, or how the custodes was terrified on the Vengeful Spirit what prove to only blanks and psykers, who are more like plot device to show powerful are some characters how they do with Tyranids, can truly fight back against the horrors befond owr reality, as examples why all it makes sense for me at least.

Custodes going mad was the best part. It's even explained later from multiple perspectives. Loyalist and traitor alike were expecting a huge trap on the Vengeful Spirit.
But there was no trap... except pure chaos. Even Horus' own soldiers are shocked when the loyalists arrive and have prepared no defence. Horus' madness was just a way to blind the Emperor to expect a battle, instead of a shell of utter darkness to turn his own guards against him.
The book was so long…… and I want more! Do they do directors -cut for books ?…. Writer’s cut

Do you guys think it is worth just reading this and the last one? I know a lot of lore from youtube but havent read any book of the horus heresy series. I am currently listening to the three Eisenhorn ones. I am just not thrilled to go through all the horus heresy books even if they are great.
It's tough to say, but if you are confident that you have a very good understanding of the heresy and SoT, you'll probably be fine reading just those.
There will be some characters who you'll have to Google, but tbh, as someone who's read the Horus heresy, there are so many characters occasionally I have to remind myself who is who 😂
Trust me, just start with the first one(Horus rising), you would be swept up in it. I advise audiobooks
I honestly suggest that even if you have a fair understanding of 30k timeline and what happens in 40k.
PLEASE read/ listen to the entire SoT series. It is just that Good.
I personally didnt read the whole Horus Heresy.. but these 8 books are something else.

@@azalikmar2 eisenhorn is the most popular recommendation in my experience and it's certainly great. Just awesome sci-fi kind of crime thrillers.
The Horus heresy is very large and therefore intimidating, but it's where I started and I wouldn't change it for the world so if you're up for the challenge, I'd say go for it!
The Primarch novels are imo very good for people newish to the hobby but have a decent grasp of what space marines/primarchs are. They're relatively short, action packed, and usually self contained (satisfying endings) but lead into larger things depending on the characters you like

@@azalikmar2 it is very tough to say I'll be honest because I only "entered" the lore one way 😂. But eisenhorn is so commonly recommended as a starting point, I'd say it's the safer bet tbf.
Though if you're all about heresy, the first 3 Horus heresy books are amazing.

@@SandmanofTerra (SPOILERS) When Malcador mind-scryes the emperor as he removes his gauntlet in the vengeful spirit clears his Custodes' minds of the spell, and awakens his full power in the warp, I believe the Chaos Gods smile and call him the Dark King. And at the end when (some narrator i dont remember) is describing what could be the possible fifth god of chaos, it seems like they are talking about Horus, but to me it seemed that everything that was being described suited what the emperor became after the heresy, a dark god of death

He's witnessed everything to come. He made Horus the Warmaster *because* he foresaw the rise of chaos, a necessary evil, so that he could inhabit the golden throne and could, eventually, rise to godhood in the warp

@@shadearca feels like a. excuse from Gw for poor writing, considering the original books were definitely written from an "omnipotent" Pov and included information the writers (If written from the perspective of an in-lore character) couldn't have possibly known about. Also.. the Emperor in the "Revelations" series sounds nothing like the Emperor in this series. He was wise beyond comprehension and was easily considered "god-like". In this series it kind of makes him seem like a bumbling idiot and that just doesn't feel right.

@@SandmanofTerra its funny how they say he was born in the early days of the age of strife but the timeline GW gives puts him around 2000 years before the DAT ends. he was there to witness it which is why I believe when the emperor showed up he immediately "surrendered" because they knew each other prior.
