May I? TIP! To STOP peeling on concrete floors, one MUST check the floor for moisture after one washed the floor. 3'x3' or so plastic sheet and tape it down good to the floor. Wait 24 hours and check for moisture under plastic. IF moisture, repeat until moisture is gone. I hope this helps.
I just found your video-6months after you made it. Can you tell us how the floor is holding up? I have the epoxy shield one part. I’m having to wait 28 days after patching cracks to apply.
variables to consider. i have a 500 sq ft space. i do NOT want to roll 2 coats. my ONLY option is a 2part epoxy. with that comes the fact that you have to be quick to roll b/c the max pot time is 2 hours before the mix becomes too tacky. also, this space will be used only for living area, low traffic. in fact the only product i have come across that specifies a one coat application is rustoleum. final decision has not been made, and i don't like the limited color selection of this product, but it is at the top of the short list at the moment. thanks for the vid and to those who have commented!
Now they have 1 part epoxy and primer all in one. Besides assuring you’ve prepped the floor clean you need several thinner coats for decent durability. You could even use it around the lower 6”-12” of wall or higher and add water resistance if you like to wash the floors.
Great Video. Can you do 1 year review on your epoxy floor? Interested to see how it has been holding up. In retrospect is there anything that you would have done differently? Have you had any chips and have you tried repairing small areas that have chipped?
You finished floor looks like the floor I currently have in my basement. Maybe this epoxy paint is what they used before I bought my house. Is there a high gloss epoxy I can squeeze on top of it? It’s about 350 sq ft
Hello.. thanks for the video. I painted epoxy top coat by mistake and now wondering if I can paint base layer on top of my top coat ? I used rustoleom rock solid
2 + questions: 1) Any idea how well this stuff seals up the odor of cat urine on concrete? 2) Assuming it does well with regard to my first question, is there any reason that I'm not considering as to why this wouldn't be a good base coat in preparation for vinyl plank flooring?
How's your floor doing one year later? I'm thinking about using 1 part epoxy, and the surface I will be putting it on is a new build construction. My guess is that I will need to do acid etching as well.
We have an issue with pet urine on our concrete floor and it has been difficult to remove. One professional online stated if one gets most of the urine out, that one can then apply a two-part epoxy -- they noted that a one part epoxy will not adequately seal the concrete for stopping emission of the uric acid decomposition smell. Comment?
a diluted solution of muriatic acid - 1part acid to 10 parts H2O. Be careful, wear goggles , gloves, boots, ventilator. This stuff is nasty, but it works. Rinse with plenty of water afterwards. You can find instructions for this sort of thing online.
Thank you for sharing. I'm doing the same thing for my two car garage. The concrete bonding primer, the instructions on the can is saying that you have to wait at least 4 hours
hi there, can you still do a solid color with the 2 part epoxy flooring instead of using flakes? im not a fan of the flakes and just want the same durability but using a solid color. do you know the process for this? its for my garage floor so it needs to be resistant but again i prefer the solid color instead of these crazy flakes. i guess they hide more imperfections but thats not what im really worried about. the flakes seem to be really rough as well. i dont want to slip and still have some grip but the flakes feel a little too much. thanks for any input. i believe you still have to diamond grind and sand the floor down to remove existing paint thats coming apart. again just want to know if i can go with solid color instead of flakes but with the full 2 step process. thanks
@thomasslater7490 So I did the rustoleum 2 part box kit. Later, I found some cracking and chipping areas where I laid it on to thin. Went and got the Behr 1 part bucket to patch the spots. Dropped a ton of chips on it to even it out. Came out ok. In the future, I'll only use the 1 part Behr because I like that it's in a bucket I can re-seal and then use for patching later if needed. I dont really care what the experts say.
Hi, how is the floor after 5 months? Any regrets or do it differently? I am thinking about going your route....cheaper, easier, more colors available, don't like the flakes in epoxy kit. Thanks!
No regrets! Floor has been used and abused and still looks great. If the you put the extra effort in prepping the floor it goes a long way. If the floor is poorly prepped you will get peeling like everyone else.
1 part epoxy floor paints are typically a latex acrylic floor paint with a small addition of epoxy, which air dries like a traditional paint. A two part epoxy floor coating are mixed together which cures by an exothermic reaction.
he’s referring to both methods taking two manual steps, which is exactly what i thought as well (since “1 part” insinuates the absence of any additional steps; i.e. opening can and rolling paint)
I think your concrete surface is worse then mine! After buying 10 drums of primer and single part epoxy I read reviews with a lot of people saying the followed the prep instructions and still had pealing issues. I went out and brought some expensive 2part epoxy kits. I think I will use the flakes which will also help hide imperfections on the surface also.
It has held up really well even through all the use it has been put through. No complaints yet. I plan on doing a 1 year update. Thanks for checking in!
Seeing you using that paint pan, and cheap throw away brush, had me realize why you only have 662 likes out of 78,000+ views! The biggest mistake that people make in attempting a concrete floor coating, is testing for MOISTURE!! Duct taping a 2x2 or 4x4 foot piece of plastic/visqueen for 24 hours on the surface! If there is MOISTURE, you have a choice to grind the surface, or DO NOT COAT THE SURFACE! I have used a few of the so called one part epoxy coatings, and not a one, compares to the solvent based 2-part Epoxy! When applied correctly, you can take a hammer to the dried/cured epoxy and wont chip it!
Hey man don't you need those knees for doing something else, lol. You will get better mileage of your feet if you start using knee pads. Thanks for the video.
Ive never grinded a floor on my feet before but im sure my back doesnt bend that way lol. I do have knee pads maybe wasnt wearing them most of the time. Your welcome for the vid haha.
Good suggestion- I’m old so I’ll need some knee protection. I just wanted to add I don’t DIY often but I have a small foam knee pad for gardening I got from Dollar Tree that I can sub for knee pads...because I’m cheap.
My least favorite thing about the directions on this stuff is that they tell you to cover your entire floor with concentrated hydrochloric acid. Like how fucking stupid do you have to be to think it’s a good idea to spread a massive amount of acid all over your floor? If you did it inside of your house I feel like all of the metal parks in your basement will just start to rust because of the massive amount of acid in the air
if you would like to see how i prepared my floor check this out ---> ua-cam.com/video/vByKIq0xpUk/v-deo.html
Thanks for the how-to vid. How does this paint hold up to surface scratching, compared to wall paint ? Will it leave etching behind?

How is it holding with water, moisture, can you share a picture of how it looks like today...

Great Video! The "Paint yourself into a corner" part was priceless! Thanks for the excellent information and demo on what to do, and not do. :)
How about a thin layer of self leveling floor compound first so as to smooth out the some minor imperfections ?
Great Video. Can you do 1 year review on your epoxy floor? Interested to see how it has been holding up. In retrospect is there anything that you would have done differently? Have you had any chips and have you tried repairing small areas that have chipped?
How long do you wait to paint the second coat?
Thank you for this video!
Excellent job! Keep it up! Floor paint videos are trending lately 🎉

how has this held up since? any touch ups?

so far it held up great, but I did not acid etch, I used a grinder to take care of the floor.
@@beanstalkbuilds thank you for replying. It looks awesome.
Excellent job! Would you be interested in trying our DOVOH laser level?
What type of roller did you use?

Im not an expert just a DIYer, but as far as i know will create a better seal using 2 part epoxy. hope this helps

Or you could try an enzymatic cleaner they use for dog kennels or try white vinegar.
What's the name and where can we buy this type of epoxy?
How does it wear/look after 5 months?
Can I lay the epoxy chips on 1-part epoxy?
Yes
Thank you for sharing. I'm doing the same thing for my two car garage. The concrete bonding primer, the instructions on the can is saying that you have to wait at least 4 hours
Then wait at least 4 hours it is! Follow the instructions!
How to mixed flooring epoxy..!!

The flakes provide more structural stability since the garage is meant to have a car that weighs a ton

wouldn't it have ben better to paint the walls before doing the floor ?
What im curious about is, you can get the clear glossy kit and layer over this from rustoleum. So why cant you just layer up this stuff?
Yes, I put bonding primer one part epoxy and then I got the rest oleum high gloss kit came out beautiful

Is it more slippery than bare concrete?

@@beanstalkbuilds hi, thanks for reply back! Every videos I have watched.... prepping is the key. Thanks for sharing your video!
Very good work
Looks great
Thank you for sharing
I’m a little confused how is this considered a one part epoxy? The bonding primer is the chemical second part, thus two part!
1 part epoxy floor paints are typically a latex acrylic floor paint with a small addition of epoxy, which air dries like a traditional paint. A two part epoxy floor coating are mixed together which cures by an exothermic reaction.

how long waiting bonding primer wating
where are you coming up with these dry times? it seems you didn't even read the can.

2 part epoxy job is really too expensive since you also need to use the correct primer for almost the same price.
may be you should do a video of 2 part epoxy so we DIY ers will not mess up
Great job.
Like this, thanks boss
I did the same with my basement 😂
Much faster to pour it out onto floor and then roll, doing one section at a time.
How has it held up now that it is been a few months?
It has held up really well even through all the use it has been put through. No complaints yet. I plan on doing a 1 year update. Thanks for checking in!
Great !!!
i’ve used the 2 part kits and 20 years later, it’s on the floor the one part you will be doing every year, bud mistake really, time will tell, thanks
good advice tips Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
You don't need two coats 2 part epoxy

Yep I did the one part epoxy last year and it all peeled up. I’m up in Montana… Definitely doing the two part. Thanks for the tips checking moisture.
The bonding primer looks like a wash.
Yeah I was shocked myself.
Workshop soon :O
inhaling this stuff is not healthy either
There is no such thing as one part epoxy. It's called paint.

looks like #!$!
