  • It has been fun sharing my single dad adoption stories with you. In Adoption story 3, the final part of Robert's adoption story we look at our journey to adoption and beyond!
What was court like? What happened when they messed up the paper work. Could being a single dad delay or prevent me from adopting a child? Could there be no adoption story? ;P
How and when did we celebrate adoption? What was our relationship with biological dad like leading up to/after adoption? When did behaviors change? Robert also discusses overcoming school hurdles because you can't have an adoption story without interviewing an adopted child. :)
We hope you enjoy this look at the foster care system, the adoption process and our journey toward becoming a family through adoption! We hope to make more videos in the future that will inspire other parents, especially other single parents to provide foster care, foster adoption, or to write their own adoption stories.
*Several single dad foster parents/potential foster or adoptive parents have already been in contact! It is such an honor to provide encouragement as you begin your foster and/or adoption story!

As a single male foster carer here in the UK , I loved watching and listening to your story ; thanks so much for posting it. Over here they have a thing called a Special Guardianship Order, and I have that with my last placement. You describe the ups and downs beautifully, especially the sleep deprivation part ! My lad is intending to go to college eventually , after a similar start to R.

Omg... they said he would never read... I didn't start reading until I was 10. Could not read a word longer then 3 letters. Within a year I was reading on a college level. Parents, don't give up on your kids. (Ps. I was not in fosters care)

Amazing! Thank you for sharing that encouragement to families who have been told their kids won't read! I wish I had heard your story when Robert was younger. 🙂

Better. Men than you and I, supposedly, have tried and failed, though politicians lack real empathy

Thank you 😊 Nick for sharing this video and all the stories about Robert - I hope that one day when it is already the new normal - he can take some formal music lessons in your town or district - God bless you and your family

Does Robert know he looks just like the kid who played young Anikan Skywalker?! That struck me at video #1 without knowing his Star Wars obsession. 😊
As a complete aside, I am ASTOUNDED that educators said it was too late to learn to read!! I unschooled my three kids (in a nutshell- living as if school does not exist) and I can attest that kids will learn to read without even being "taught". *GASP*
Both of my boys naturally came to it by age 10 and my daughter, being the eager beaver she is, picked it up around 5/6. We didn't teach anyone letters or phonics. We just lived in a literature-rich environment. But I digress. I get that children from trauma and foster care with dyslexia added to the mix is a different story but JEEZ! To say he would never learn is jaw-dropping to me! The nerve!
    Rant over. 😜
I'm really enjoying hearing about you and Robert's journey together!

Love this! The sleep deprivation is 100% true! My Foster son has been with me for 6 months and it's one heck of an adjustment. Thanks for this video, it's great to know that I'm not the only one experiencing things like this. It does get better!

I may or may not have spent the last hours watching every video. 🤣🤣🤣 This one has to be my favorite! I am a Disney nerd and loved seeing your celebration there! Hope you guys had some good bonding time with the Mandalorian series!
We are in the middle of TPR right now and the emotions and anxiety are all over the place! I pray daily to calm my heart and accept His peace. Not sure how I could do this without Him as my foundation!
Thankful to have stumbled upon your channel this morning!

We have loved the Mandalorian series. We both count the days in between episodes.
We'll send up a prayer for you too! TPR is rough on so many levels for everyone involved.

Thank you so much! I'm definitely not super dad. I was just telling a social worker that the only thing I'm really good at is to hang on stubbornly and not give up! It seems like most of the time that is enough. 😅

@@letsgodad i know of three families that have done foster care. They all adopted kids. My barber has adopted 11 kids so far. He was married at one time. Very great guy. I would like to adopt. Iam so stubborn. Every single person is a good person you just have to find their strengths and use that to move them forward. Iam also a military veteran so i know all about hurry up and wait🙂. Never give up on yourself or your dreams. Peace out Nick🙂

Thank you for saying that. I think (out of absolute desperation at times) I've just listened to a lot of foster care/adoption podcasts, surrounded myself with wise people, and surrounded myself with teams of people that have helped plan and strategize with me. Then I have also had many challenging years learning what does and doesn't work.

    Hi Nick
I am catching up on some of the vlogs I missed, some how!
Robert’s story reminded me of a guy I knew in school who’s adoptive parents ridiculed because he struggled with the written word. If he had been born 30yrs later he’d of had a dyslexia test positivity. Unfortunately he wasn’t so lucky, he was abused at 12 and eventually ‘outed’ in church at 17, things have improved for him in the recent past. He got a degree at university, which isn’t easy in the UK, he does lead a better life now, but never deserved the ridicule. Btw his adoptive dad was a vicar, who washed his hands of him, heartbreaking

Tragic! We need to stop adding trauma for people and start focusing on healing. I guess it is easy to say, but hard to do?
