Urban Meyer also inherited a loaded jim tressel team not a lack luster Brady hoke team 10 wins with a qb that had no experience in his system or any of those players on the team for that matter in his first year second year there ten wins again with a call that could have went either way by the way I think it was reported that 2 or 3 of Those referees in that game were known Ohio State fans which is whatever but it helps win the refs are smiling and patting Ohio state players back when they scored check the tape 👀 and then there is last year in which he played 3 different qbs due to injury and still won 8 games and was in every game except for the penn state game where they got smoked lol me being a Michigan fan i am just fine with jim harbaugh as our coach and I don’t think he is underperforming

@@dylanspurlock6150 they are better with harbaugh but not NEARLY as better off as people thought they would be. When he entered CFB he had SO much hype. Analysts, former coaches, and many networks and Tv personalities were already calling him like the 2nd best coach in the B1G and some were even putting him top 5 in the nation. So yes. He has underachieved based on the hype and expectations of Michigan fans and most CFB fans and spokespeople when he came in. Now that being said I strongly agree that this program is better with Harbaugh than it has been the past 10 years before him. He gets them talked about, he's been close to winning the division and it's gonna happen sooner than later (this is coming from a state fan) and bottom line is. He wins. He's a winner and he's gonna EARN that hype that he gets eventually. Maybe not THIS season but eventually he will.

Nick Saban led a program in the dumps to a national title in 3 years. Harbaugh is underachieving. They are paying him an astronomical amount, so they are expecting him to at least beat OSU.

I completely agree with you, the conference was so strong last year, and people seem to forget that their starting quarterback got hurt, and their backup just wasn't any good. The third string was only slightly better he just didn't throw any picks but the offense was just as stagnant. I dont care what you say about urban and his back up quarterback success, their offense is deigned that the quarterback doesnt need to make decisions. As we know, backup get hot randomly and everything clicks. Cardel jones was awful when he started the season, and did you see Nick Foles preseason game against cleveland? He was awful. You can't expect a team with such a vanila offense to beat a team like Wisconsin and company. They kept all of those games close too.

Comparing Harbough to Hoke and Rich Rod is comparing a 6 to a couple of 3's. Yeah its better but you're billing him as a 9 which is just not true and his record overall and against their rivals show that. Franklin has done more at Penn St than Harbaugh, has won a Big Ten, and they're in the same division, what's you're excuse- one year difference is that big of a factor but ignore how Penn State was worse off than Michigan was when Franklin took over.
Harbaugh is better than Hoke, but his teams don't show up when it matters.
Now Michigan is 9-1 and 1st in the B10

I never saw him as being paid to bring instant championships to the program. I saw him as a return to the stability the fans and the program saw under Lloyd Carr. 9-10 win seasons with a top 20 defense is what I think about when I consider U of M as a program. Occasionally they drop to 8 wins if they lost considerable talent to the draft or were simply senior laden. This program watched a perennial top defense get gutted by a man who thought implementing a 3-3-5 scheme into a run heavy conference was a good idea (RichRod). It saw a dramatic shift in the offense which was only saved by Denard Robinson. The program stopped sending top offensive linemen to the NFL. It stopped developing players. I could not be happier to see a return to a tough defense, to ground and pound offense. My gripes center around his record against MSU and OSU, and a lack of consistency along the O-line. Not that he hasn't brought a B1G Championship or a NT. With the way this program performed overall for the decade or so before he arrived, its a freakin miracle to even be having this conversation.
I would not argue with you, except that when a school with such a notable history pays someone that kind of money being in that final four is expected as well as beating your most notable rivals! Not to say it won't happen but most programs want that after four or five years, so he could still get there.
Klatt has addressed this topic several times and I appreciate each time he does as so. As we know, all the media wants to push is the controversial, hot takey, headlines. What better way than to do so with Jim Harbaugh? Michigan is a traditional power, Harbaugh isn't a milquetoast personality and they play in arguably the best division in college football. The possibility for outlandish storylines will always been in full force as long as all of these factors remain.
This however, shouldn't hinder the truth that my man, Joel Klatt, continuously speaks. I know the numbers don't look all that impressive but let's actually outline the situation and understand the program Harbaugh was handed. With Rich Rodriguez, Michigan won a total of 15 games in 3 season. With Brady Hoke, 3 out 4 seasons failed to even reach 9 wins, with his last season resulting with 5 wins.
In one season's difference under Jim Harbaugh, Michigan doubled its win total and was the flukiest, most heartbreaking play away from 1. Winning 11 games 2. Beating one of his rivals that A: Ended up winning the BIG that season and B: Made it to the playoffs. In year 2 his team made significant strides and was a BS spot and entire game of officiating away from playing the conference championship with a shot at the playoffs. In YEAR 2! With Wilton Speight as his quarterback, a guy he didn't recruit, nor was 80% of that team's roster.
Then we go into last season with one of the most inexperienced teams and keep our head above water unlike Michigan State in 2016, Ohio State in 2011 and Nick Saban's first Alabama team that won 7 games. Man oh man, if Harbaugh ever had a 7 win season we would not hear the end of that. But just bc Coach Khaki Pants is a bit eccentric and doesn't do everything the boring, cookie cutter way, he pisses people off. People that are buffoons will then look to find any criticism they can of him and his fantastic program.
Well last season was exactly that. It was last season. We told you to get your jokes in while you could. You still have 10 more days to address the 1-5 against his rivals, or blabber on how he's never finished 3rd in his division. Go ahead get it out, because once this season starts I can't guarantee you, you'll be able to get in anymore JH/Michigan fun. They're more experienced, have one of the best qb's in the BIG and by far the best JH has had at Michigan. They also have a defense that ranked 3rd in the country last season statistically that only lost one impact player in DT Maurice Hurst. Michigan will be very good this season. VERY GOOD.
I won't guarantee anything, bc I usually jinx if I do, but I will say they have as good as chance as any team of winning the BIG and I'd say they probably go at least 11-1.

Great job Joel, someone needed to call out Whit(less)lock with some genuine contextual facts as opposed to trivial requirements chosen only to perpetuate an agenda to attract viewership numbers and create a controversy talking point. I hope you Klatt replaces him because he honest, knowledgeable, and unafraid to confront people who lack journalistic integrity. Jason should be embarrassed on how he handled klatts rebuttle, ashamed of his dishonest bias, and apologize to the viewers and Mr. Harbaugh for for disrespecting his ability and our intelligence as viewers. He should spend more time getting informed and less time speaking if this is how he’s going to go about things.

I honestly don't think Joel had a response for Whitlock's point about how other coach's get it done without good quarterbacks. I thought last year (2018 when this was posted) was supposed to be the year Harbaugh beats OSU. He surely had enough talent. I think Urban Meyer proved he is the better coach. Harbaugh was not prepared to play OSU.

*Objective Joel: "What measure are you using to judge whether a coach is overrated?"
*Objective Jason: "Salary dollars plus positive social media mentions, divided by wins. Taken over a certain period and compared to the average for all coaches during the same period."
*Objective Joel: "Let us look at the figures. Aha. According to your definition, Jim Harbaugh is/isn't overrated. Let's now proceed to discuss something more nuanced, like whether this figure is the best way to measure how overrated a coach is."
But that's "nerd stuff," and audiences prefer empty blustering.

Harbaugh is overrated, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a good coach. The narrative in Michigan was that he was the messiah and certain media personalities peg him as the best or a top 3 coach. He isn’t. He doesn’t have top coach production and he’s probably the third or fourth best coach in a stacked conference.
