3:37 All PLBs have global coverage. What that really means is that the satellite network can receive your distress signal anywhere. The thing to keep in mind is, the people receiving the signal do not go out themselves. They forward the distress call to local SAR, Coast Guard, police, etc. So while you can depend on SAR to come running in first world countries, you can't be 100% sure that a third world country is going to have the resources to respond quickly just because they received a phone call from the United States Air Force. So a little research is still needed depending on your location. Still, a PRB distress alert sent promptly is probably your best option in most places.

I purchase one here In Australia. I do a lot of outdoor activities. I believe when the battery goes flat all we have to do is send it back to ACR. and they will change the battery and send it back free of charge.
In the US, battery replacement costs about $100 if done thru official channels. You can buy and replace your own for $20-30 but of course this is not recommended by ACR. The unit uses pack of regular CR123A lithium batteries bundled together with a plug in connector. The battery swap is easy to do. The issue is simply that no one will guarantee a waterproof case after it's been opened by the end user. I use my PLB on land, so that issue isn't of great concern to me. If I were operating out on the Atlantic, I might be more careful about cracking open the case.
