A very nice pastel painting and demo. I do take exception to calling pastels "chalk." Pastels are not precipitated chalk but are mostly pure pigment with binder. There are dry pastels such as hard pastels and soft pastels (which were used here) as well as oil pastels.
I have searched and searched for a tutorial on how to create waves like this using watercolours/gouache. I love this tutorial and the end result is wonderful. Am going to try and see if I can apply some of these colour techniques in watercolour and white gouache. Thanks!
I'm really in love with the way you draw. I own for about 2 years a oil pastel set and i never really used it because i tried to draw the same way as i do with pencils. Seeing you drawing helps me alot to lern how to make it better and everytime i whatch a video from you im just amazed by your talent.
any sort of thick slightly textured paper is cool.. don't put water. when you blend pastels don't push too hard, use a light hand. lightly blow off the excess chalky powder and it shouldn't get muddle the other colors. use a light hand when you don't want it to get too powdery and build color. it's ok if the colors smudge into each other a bit.. that's sort of the affect you're meant to get when using pastels. hope this helps :)
I just watched your pencil tutorial and you drew super fast there too, I think that you should get into speed drawing contests because I think that you're the sure winner. It trips me out how fast you go, almost makes my high fade because it's such a trip.
Wow! I have never been ever to draw, but I tried these videos and it turned out awesome! I feel like I can draw now with chalk pastels. You started me on a new hobby. ;) Thanks!
Maha, get some help. Insults for attention indicate something serious is missing in your life. Emilie, you keep on keepin' on. Life's too short not to capture some of it on canvas or pad. Maha, I'm serious. Call someone.
I was looking around for some really decent pastel tutorials, as I love to use them but am looking to step up my game. Then I found this. My mind=blown. Fantastic is an understatement. I'm going to TRY to do this drawing and see how well I can do. You've inspired me.
It depends on what you're going to be drawing. When I do flowers/florals, I use green, with ocean/water blue is good. You should pick the paper color based on the subject.
these tutorials makes it look sooooooo easy x) I know it's not that easy, but it sure makes me want to try those pastels again. Haven't used them in several years now :p
I find that using a white charcoal pencil is much more effective than a white pastel, and first you have to put fixative over the blue to stop it blending with the white.
Oh my gosh! That was so good! Thank you so much for sharing your talent and skill. Talking about what steps you were making was awesome. I appreciate what you gave. Bye now
First of al thanks for the video its really usefull, i am practicing a lot with chalk pastel at the moment. Therefor i have a question i'm noticing u r using colored paper for the chalk drawings, is that better for drawing with pastels??
This might be weird to say but your voice is super calming I love your videos I must subscribe right now LOL......... please don't think I'm weird for saying your voice is calming
Please suggest me the way to put white color on the top of the ocean wave (time 2.56). I tried to put white color on top but I could not. White color turned out to be light blue because the color of the ocean water is blue. Thank you in advance
Damn I feel like I'm sitting on the beach! Ha nice on I'm going to be breaking out the pastels when I can and draw this. Does that orange paper give a better back ground or is it the small screen on my phone that makes it seem different?
I just took a drawing class in my community college to build foundation. I have never used chalk or pastels before. I tried out some chalk and pastel on my drawing paper (Strathmore drawing paper 80lb) for student, I find when I try to rub and blend the chalk there's a lot of powder lifted from the paper and stain other parts of the paper that are intended to be white. I then try to brush some water onto the paper, the paper started peeling. What kind of paper should I use?
Hey, i tried making the white details and the colour kind of blends in, but it doesn't look sharp/bright, what other material can i use to make the highlights? thanks :)
I didn't like how it looks the Green, it seems not real(personal opinion) But I really love how you recreate the effect of movement. Thanks for share your experience sir.

as with others, I too have of these pastels that have remained unused.
Thanks for sharing. I'm impressed.
BrettL64 well i use every pastel. USE IT ON YOUR HAIR, FOOL. ;)
Yes, you can buy it in most art shops or if you can't get any hairspray works just as well
Wow! I have never been ever to draw, but I tried these videos and it turned out awesome! I feel like I can draw now with chalk pastels. You started me on a new hobby. ;) Thanks!

Chalk pastels look like they're amazing. I need to try them out. Great video.

Wow! Thanks for the wonderful tutorial on using pastel to paint waves :D
Thank you for sharing this amazing tutorial. Those waves are beautiful. I am excited to try it out myself.
I love this! How do you combat the mess that soft pastels create? Are you using softer or more firm pastels?
With a litle indication about the colours you used was a good idea
you have a very special talent!!!!!
This is one of the most relaxing videos I've watched haha..that background music is soothing along with the calming voice
Just fantastic, looks like a photo, well done and more examples required please!
Outstanding! And I know it won't come out for me like this the first time, but that's why we keep practicing. Thank you! 🎨
It seems impossible to do that. But You do this so easy....as if you never did anything else. It looks wonderful!

How is it that my white never shows up on any colour?
Late comment. But when you add white to a color all it does is it lightens the color. Creating a tint.
try spraying just a little fixative over the area and you will find that it layers on top of the previous colours more pronounced and doesnt mix
Hiiii
I love munch video
it will be nice to see the reference photo nice work
Again awesome work !was wondering do you put some kind of clear seal over your drawings when your done? I have and it ruined it made it very dark
I'm a beginner in oil pastel technique. I do not know the type of fixative. Is it like the spray? However, thank you so much.
Please suggest me the way to put white color on the top of the ocean wave (time 2.56). I tried to put white color on top but I could not. White color turned out to be light blue because the color of the ocean water is blue.

Love your work, you make it look so easy.

I have never used pastels before. Great video. Do you use a mixture of hard and soft pastels?
Damn I feel like I'm sitting on the beach! Ha nice on I'm going to be breaking out the pastels when I can and draw this. Does that orange paper give a better back ground or is it the small screen on my phone that makes it seem different?
