What wings? No disrespect to the artist, it's an amazing animation, but let's not pretend like our bro here has a second wing. It didn't show much in sketch, but with the render... I wasn't gonna say anything about it, but your comment made me chuckle because of this, so I couldn't resist 😁 Actually, I think I can see something looking like a poorly erased second wing in the beginning, so maybe it turned out looking too confusing and was scraped out.
I have a massive special interest in birds and flying, I love this! I love the power that goes into it, the way it’s not a simple up and down motion. I’ve seen all too many animations where the creatures just seem to float along, the wings merely an accessory to the movement. But they feel more like the driving force of it here, as it actually is
Looks insane, few critiques tho: I’d draw the right wing and leg, as even if they’re behind, you’d still be able to see the edges of them poking out a small bit also when doing the upstroke on the wings, I’d make the fingers fold down slightly, because it looks a bit too rigid tbh Other than that, looks amazing 👍
I am gonna use this as refrence to making my own flying sicles thanks! For allowing it! I really needed smth like this to make my own! With this i can see how much distance the frames have to have to make it smooth ! Thanks a lot!
As a tip to a new animator, remember secondary motion. That's the concept where when one thing moves, it causes other things to move (for instance, fur or floppy ears will trail behind movement a small bit or a muscle will flex and look thicker/thinner- look at this animation, how there's almost a wave of motion that travels down the dragon) It's tough, but it adds life!
Thanks! And well, what I did to make this animation, I spent a long time looking at other people's animations and analyzed them, so if you want to improve, it's my best advice!
YAY IM NOT THE ON,Y ONE WHO STARTS MY ANIMATIONS WITH THE BODY AS CIRCLES! I have a vid of a cat jumping animation on my channel but this dragon looks SOO GOOD! I want to make a dragon one in the future!
@@xeladrawsdragons172 your so nice!!! Thank you! I might try to make my own for practicing but I’m sure if I use yours to it will also help me get better! 😸
I love the fact that this dragon is called a wyvern , which is also a two-legged dragon. Plus I love the way you use Ibis paint as a genuine animation software that you used to animate this dragon. I also enjoyed on seeing you join circles in a way to assist the actual and realistic movement of the dragon as well as its keels. It gives the dragon a lot much more realistic character in terms of the way it flies.
Downbeat looks to be missing a step. Should be pushing the air down and also back. This usually gives the downbeat almost an S- or C-shape motion. Upbeating wings can also be pulled in slightly to reduce how much air is pushed up, since that would make staying in the air harder. :) Great animation! Just some things I noticed.
That's great! The only thing I think would be better is if the dragon bent the tips of its wings when they rise. This happens to reduce air resistance.
Not only does pointing the alula (thumb part) of the wing upwards help reduce air resistance, it also redirects air backwards and at the same time downwards, producing thrust and lift even on the upflap.
SAW AN N PFP AND A DRAGON, TWO OF MY FAVORITE THINGS INSTANT CLICK AND SUBSCRIPTION AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AND THAT WAS A REALLY GREAT ANIMATION!! THE MOVEMENT WAS PLANNED SO WELL!! AND THE COLORS-
At first I didn't really like how shaky the wings looked, but it honestly did make sense - after all, it's a huge wyvern with the least aerodynamic materials possible - of course its wings would be shaking a bit supporting itself in flight.
Just a critique: downbeats are usually longer than upbeats to increase lift. I noticed you have the upbeat almost twice as long. For reference: the heavier a bird is, they’ll have longer downbeats compared to their upbeat. Very small birds have about a 1:1 ratio, large birds usually glide most of the time, but when they do flap, downstroke is longer by about two times. Awesome animation though, I hope I’ll do something this good someday 😆👍
It look really cool. But I'll be a bit critical here and say that at least a bit od the other wing would appear, specially during the down montion, I'd say rhe other leg would poke a little bit too, since they're in motion. The way it is now look like it's just half a dragon. But hey great job regardless. keep it up

Its g o n e Haha, no but actually I just felt lazy Maybe I'll do a second a second one, with two legs and two wings, and maybe even make it a quadruped while also fixing some errors I noticed And thanks!
I'm confused. Why are the wings still fully extended on the upstroke? Wouldn't that create a force that pushes the dragon downwards? Don't birds bring their wings in on the upstroke and extend on the downstroke? Maybe I'm just misremembering how flying looks like. It is a cool animation, and I like how the whole body moves with the motion. Really makes it feel like there's power behind the wingbeats.

Dragons are their own separate mythical species because, as you said, dragons don’t need wings however wyverns do. In addition wyverns do not breath fire but usually have a venomous bite or breath acid. They are also smaller than dragons and have venomous/poisonous spikes all over their tail.
