Speaking as someone who has a 5,500 sqft driveway, I have almost the identical driveway as you. May 10th of 2023 I had recycled poured as the difference between recycled and hot asphalt was $9,000 vs $15:000 , my driveway looked just as good after they were done. Nobody mentioned pouring diesel to keep it intact. I also had a drop off on the sides with a slope downhill. Recycled will not stay in place like hot asphalt so I spent another 9k having g edging and rock run along the sides to anchor it in place. You have to backfill the sides with dirt if you want to keep the recycled from moving and breaking off. First rains we got all the top started to wash off to then sides and the loose top kept the water from draining off. The first snow the top layer came off when I plowed. Each subsequent plowing took off a little bit of the top. When it rained the recycled asphalt was no better then expensive black gravel and I spent too much time patching ruts with recycled asphalt that had washed off of the sides, and then driving up and down with my truck packing it down. Because the top layer was no longer solid, any snow would melt because it was black but the water would stay on the driveway and freeze. I finally had enough and had another hot asphalt poured for $11k 10 mo later. As bad and as rough as my driveway was with recycled, the hot asphalt said my driveway looked better then most they have seen after one year. The cost was less to have the hot asphalt poured since the recycled acted as a solid base. The only way I would ever recommend recycled asphalt if you live so,ewhere that it doesn’t snow, and if you have a short driveway less then 3,000 sqft and one that doesn’t have a steep grade, otherwise invest in a landscaping company coming out and leveling your driveway and using a weed barrier over a drainage system and pouring 1” rock over it, However I am extremely pleased with the hot asphalt and wish I had sent the money and it it done first
For best results, use topping milling material.. potatoe chip size or a tad smaller... I've also used seal coat after it's graded rolled and compacted.. I've been doing it for 25 years
I had a long rural driveway done with something like this but it was laid out and rolled back in october in ontario. it's hardened a bit over the winter but I will have to roll it again and alot of it still is loose. The small pieces sunk to the bottom and the pebbles stayed up top. I haven't tried the calcium chloride yet but I will. Any other suggestions?
Hi. I just put down recycled grinding today August 9 2023. I’m wondering how your driveway is holding up. Did the calcium tighten things up and hold through your the winter. Also how did the driveway spray work after. Thanks for any help. Brian ( your driveway turn out great tbh. )
So the base turned out very solid, the top it's like a loose gravel. I was told the spray would fix that and it didn't. Might have been better to do right away. The calcium definitely made it hard. Other then the top being like loose gravel I'm happy with it. Still an upgrade from the muddy driveway it used to be. It's definitely not hot asphalt by any means. Looking back I would have rolled it with a heavier roller as theirs wasn't very big and tried spraying it shortly after having it paved.

I just find it funny you worried about the environment but you're pouring down asphalt which is 90% petroleum which least is out when the word leech out when it rains it's just a gigantic oil slick

You could always have it sealcoated, which will help hold it together😮
Never seemed to work
Asphalt haulers use fuel to keep the product from sticking. If you use anything use oil
NO
Why not put the calcium’s on the drive right before rolling it
Didn't have any and wasn't told about it till after the fact unfortunately
Glad I came across your video, I'm about to do the same thing
Use tack coat or a galsanight
Did you dyi this?!
Everything but laying the driveway down
Ashphalt? You mean asphalt . I tried wvo mixed in the millings and rolled it seems to bind up good and got the tar back to a sticky state, so far ok .
Yea sorry, I pronounce it different
@@KendorFarms So how is it holding up?
Pretty good, top layer is a loose stone but pretty hard underneath
@@KendorFarms That is good news. I am trying out another way mixing in roof sealer which is oil based thinned with wvo in the millings to see what its results are .
Sounds good. It's not a hot paved driveway but still a great upgrade from the gravel and mud during the spring thaw
Why are you saying Ash fault?
That's what I call it in 🇨🇦
Don't use asphalt millings if you expect for it to bond. It's good for a long country driveway but not a driveway that you will be walking on it, regularly, or for the kids to play on. Spend the extra money and get hot mix. TRUST Me I just wasted $4300.00
Oh no! Pretty happy with mine still. Way better then driving over mud
Looks great 👍🏾
Buy ss1h cut it in half with water then spray it over this it will be as hard and as black as hot asphalt after about 3 sprays of it
Really? I'd love to try it
ss1h?
Can you give more info on this product please?
Looks just like actual asphault . How can you yell the difference
Mine came out terrible. They won’t stick together
Unfortunately a lot of the time it depends on the type of material and how fresh it is too
I screened out the fine bitumin from a pile I had left over. swept it into the more coarse/Stoney areas of driveway. Seems to work so far. I am going to do this again then roll it.
Great job
does it bother anyone else the amount of times he pronounces is ashphalt and not asphalt?
LoL, just you
Atf might be looking into all the chemical purchases 😂
I just did mine about a month ago but man mine looks like shit compared to yours
Well mine doesn't look that great anymore but it has a solid base
Remember the old adage you "get what you pay for"¿
Yes, and?
I just had about 4200 sq ft of asphalt put down by a local large paver. It went over the top of an existing asphalt driveway. It is an absolutely beautiful job. I paid $13,315. It was worth every penny. I just won't do a job on the cheap anymore. When I was younger I would do it all myself so I get a quality job done cheaply. I don't really post videos, but maybe I should and show you how nice the job could have been done. And I feel confident that you will be stuck redoing your drive long before me. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but for me a full professional repave made sense.
A great drinking game would be take a drink every time he mispronounces "asphalt". Driveway looks good though.
That’s how my Canadian friends say it. Must be a regional thing.
I did, and I'm jagged and saying ash in front of everything
Dang I’m wasted.
I’m going straight for the jack daniels,

this looks waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than my neighbor's lol. I wonder if there are some who just do a better overall job to where it acually resembles asphalt????
I think it really depends on the material. How fresh it is and how much tar is in it
Ahh yes the illustrious ash phalt
Has no one ever heard of Hawk Seal ???
Have you used hawk seale?
@jonschmitz1857 no, never heard of it
recycled asphalt is just the exact same as newly made stuff, its such a rip off how companies charge extremely more for the "new labeld" stuff . people who buy millings hopeing it will work as some sort of a drive way are dreaming as well,it needs crushed and remixed with a binder, raw millings is just dust waiting to blow or wash away
I just find it funny you worried about the environment but you're pouring down asphalt which is 90% petroleum which least is out when the word leech out when it rains it's just a gigantic oil slick
It's not really funny, I'm not too worried about the environment
It’s actually about 5% oil and 95% sand and aggregates. 20% of the sand and aggregates is from recycled asphalt. Ton for ton, asphalt has the largest post consumer recycled content of any industry.
Good ol ashfault
Ashfault?? Lol! You talk funny but you got a Perddy driveway
Nice driveway but who ever rolled that needs lessons lol
Yea, that just a little baby roller
