Fun fact: Patrick Swayze was originally going to be the lead in Predator 2. But he injured himself during filming of Road House. So the lead role went to Danny Glover and Patrick Swayze ended up doing Ghost.
Sam Elliot isn't cool because he has a mustache. Mustaches are cool because they have Sam Elliot. The mustache that is lucky enough to be his is automatically the coolest mustache. The exception to this rule is Tom Selleck's mustache.
One of my favorite movies. Perfect 80s movie. It has everything. Violence, foul language, nudity, explosions, sex, deaths, great one liners, and two of the coolest men alive at the time in Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott. A great way to finish the 1980s.
The band was an actual real band (The Jeff Healy band) and the guitarist, Jeff Healy was in fact blind (as well as a phenomenal guitarist, his band played all of the songs in this movie, they weren't faking it)
Ken Rex McElroy, was a small town bully, in Skidmore, Missouri. He was accused of dozens of felonies, indicted 21 times, but always slithered out of a conviction, except for the last one. He was convicted of attempted murder for shooting the towns 70 year old grocer, Ernest Bowenkamp. He appealed and got released on bond and began harassing Bowenkamp and everybody who'd supported him. One day, he showed up at the local bar and threatened to kill Bowenkamp. The next day, while setting in his truck, next to his wife, on the main street of Skidmore, McElroy was shot to death. Bullets from at least 2 different weapons struck him. This happened in front of between 30 to 45 towns folk. Nobody saw nuttin'. EDIT: there was a book and a movie about it. "In Broad Daylight"
As a Missourian this is a cult classic, since the true story that inspired this happened in our state, and it's inspiring to see the town take out the trash and take their town back.
RIP, Jeff Healey, 1966-2008, he played the blind singer in the film, as well as doing a rock version of "When The Night Comes Falling," during the end credits.
Always makes me laugh how dumb Brad Wesley's henchmen are. All they had to do was sit on Wesley's patio and look across the water to see if Dalton was home 😂
The doctor is actress Kelly Lynch. She appeared in "Cocktail," with Tom Cruise, "Drugstore Cowboy" with Matt Dillon, "Curly Sue" with James Belushi, and "Virtuosity" with Denzel Washington ans Russell Crowe. The bar owner is actor Kevin Tighe from the 70's TV show "Emergency."

Yeah, Peter says 'Roadhouse' when he does a roundhose kick, cause you see Dalton do a roundhouse kick several times, that are pretty perfect. Folks often reference Roadhouse when someone does a roundhouse kick.

Road House - A "roadhouse" is a bar or restaurant on a road outside a city. Here in Texas, we have another type of bar that is the Ice House. An "icehouse" is an indoor-outdoor beer joint. And a beer joint is a dive bar that sells only beer, setups (aka mixers), and possibly some token wine often out of a box or in those single-serving-size bottles. I'm sure Road Houses and Ice Houses are in many other states, especially in the south. Oh yeah, we can't forget the Juke Joint. Many country and blues bands got their start playing at jukes in the south, although some jukes offer jukeboxes as their only music. You can also call it a "juke joint." The word juke comes from the Southern United States Creole known as Gullah - in which juke or joog means "wicked" or "disorderly." A Juke Joint is a bar featuring live music or music on a jukebox and typically having an area for dancing. In this movie, the Double Duece serves like a combined concept of your typical Road House and Juke Joint bars. ♧ROADHOUSE HISTORY♧ Although the film is set in the town of Jasper, Missouri , the exterior of the films infamous bar The Double Deuce was built strictly for the filming on location in California and then was torn down. I don't know about Texas but in OK a lot of the bars at least in the 80s still had elements that ran back to the prohibition days and the restrictive laws that stuck around for decades afterward. Bootlegging, protection rackets, crooked laws that benefitted insiders, an entire culture and underbelly just reverberated. Nowadays it is all about tax revenue and "entertainment districts" so the booze flows freely in the open and Jesus doesn't seem to take as much offense as way back when.
Jeff Healey, the lead singer of the band, really was blind, and really was one of the best guitar players ever. He lost his sight from cancer at 18 months old, was given a guitar at the age of three, and played it for the rest of his life. Sadly, he passed away in 2008 from complications due to cancer. He was "discovered" by Stevie Ray Vaughan (another "one of the best guitar players ever), who was on a break from touring in Canada and literally walked into the bar Healey was playing. Vaughan invited Healey to play at his next tour date, and Healey showed up in street clothes. There's video on UA-cam of them playing Vaughan's song "Look At Little Sister" together. It's awesome.
A detail most people miss: Dalton using his Mercedes as a distraction at the end was symbolic. It's the car he used to go from job to job. He has decided to stay.
Well, if people miss the car being sacrificed, they'll probably put 2 and 2 together when watching the final scene, right? Either he's staying or she's coming with, because we all know that Dalton can pick up a car real quick at any used car lot. LoL.
For a highly underrated Swayze flick that nobody ever does, try Next of Kin. It also stars a young supporting cast of great actors that you will recognize.
The "You can kiss em!" guy is Chris Latta. Latta was an actor who is probably most famous for voicing the Deception Starscream and Cobra Commander in the 80s cartoons.

If you couldn't tell, this was made as a modern Western. It came out when I was in high school, and my friends and I saw it three times in the theater. If Point Break is 100% pure adrenaline, Road House is 100% pure testosterone. But it actually did not do great at the theater. It was only after it hit TV that it achieved classic status. Fun Fact: Sam Elliott said in an interview that the first cut of Road House was three and a half hours. He said his role was actually much bigger but most of it got cut.
I used to watch this film when I was younger and just thought it was a raunchy action flick. It took me until I matured and got older to really appreciate Dalton’s character as a stoic and quiet person who really didn’t want to fight but constantly had to
The fight with dalton and the main henchmen played by marshall teague was the highlight of the fights. Marshall Teague and Swayze didnt like each other at first and when they did the fight, for a lot of it they were making contact which is why the hits look real. After the fight they found respect for one another and were friendly the rest of the shoot.
It was during the filming of that second fight that Patrick and Marshall found respect for each other. They each realised that they were both just dedicated to making as good a fight scene as possible so they ended up striking up a good rapport and respect that way. They trusted each other enough that they'd kind of ad-lib (or whatever the term is for a fight scene) a lot. The scene where Jimmy hits Dalton with the log, the log ended up being real rather than a prop.
TBR & Samantha - I so thoroughly enjoy your reactions! I watch a lot of movie reactions and I have to say your channel has steadily climbed up my rankings and you have become my absolute favorite reaction channel! Your genuine reactions and opinions, followed by intelligent and humorous outros make you two a joy to watch. Thank you!

Thank you all so much for giving us one of the coolest movies ever.
Brad Wesley's death is believed to be based on the real life death of The Skidmore Town Bully, Ken McElroy in 1981. Skidmore is in Missouri and Roadhouse takes place in Missouri.
The leaded or unleaded question is a reference to when gasoline came in leaded or unleaded. Gasoline had lead additives (most commonly Tetraethyllead aka TEL) to improve performance and fuel economy. It also lubricated the valve train and and prevented engine knock. However, it was discovered to cause major health problems like lead poisoning and it stared to be phased out in the 70s. When the term is used with coffee, it means regular or decaf.
For me THE line I always remember is "Please Don't Eat the Big White Mint". For decades, I think about that line everytime I am in a restroom away from home.
One of my favorite movies. Funny story, while at my grandparents house, when I was young, this movie came on one of the pay channels late at night, and uncut. I watched it with my grandma, who always liked a good story. It was our first time seeing it. Grandma was of the, church going, proper, older generation. When the movie was over her response was " it was a little dirty, but it was a good".
This movie was released the day before I got married. My wife made me take her to see this on our honeymoon. We divorced five years later, but I still love the movie.😂
My aunt was a singer in a band in the 70's. My parents would take me with them when she would be performing in the area. I do remember one place that had chicken wire protecting the band from objects being thrown at them.
22:17 - TBR making Samantha laugh for 30+ seconds in the edit! The patreon might just be worth it for the whole gigglefest! 🤣 OK, that poll. I get why the likes of Face/Off and Bad Boys scored highly - they were pretty successful and iconic. Which possibly explains why Shoot 'em Up faired so badly. But, for me, out of all of the ones listed it has the most OTT action sequences out of all of them. I hope it one day gets a viewing. Also, 80's action films that popped into my head - Cobra, with Sylvester Stallone it's about as cliche ridden as any 80's action film can be. And Dark Angel, with Dolph Lundgren [although it's actually 1990, do not read a synopsis - it's bonkers].
The hardware store owner, is Red West. He was a member of The Memphis Mafia, Elvis Presley's friends, associates, employees and cousins, that he kept around him, from his beginning til his death.
Bill Murray prank calls pal Mitch Glazer( Kelly Lynch's husband & co-writer of Murray's movie 'Scrooged" ) everytime love scene with Kelly & Patrick Swayze comes on ,while watching Roadhouse.- Its actually been going on for years !!😁
NICE! I love how Sam Elliott calls The Double Deuce "The Double Deuch." Lol! The fight scenes in the movie were all real, as Patrick Swayze and some of the actors ended up in the hospital several times during filming as he suffered a lot of broken bones, namely his ribs and leg bones.
I always liked this movie. In the series "Yellowstone" Taylor Sheridan(writer, director, and actor), his character stated that "Roadhouse" was the greatest movie ever made.
Road House is one of those movies I'll always watch if I come across it on TV. Always seems counter intuitive to me that Dalton seems to stay healthy, not drink, makes stank faces at pastries, practices Tai Chi and martial arts, but smokes first thing in the morning. So fun to see the both of you laughing but trying not to at 22:26!
The director, Rowdy Herrington, was a stuntman which is why the movie is as action packed as it is. And the word "roadhouse" is a generic term for the type of bar it is. And yeah, Peter is always roundhouse kicking somebody when he says "Rrrroadhouse!" 😂 I'm glad you guys loved it. I was kind of worried before hand. Lol
42:25 the only other movie I've seen with Kelly Lynch was Curly Sue with Jim Belushi and Alisan Porter, who later won The Voice as an adult. But she was only 9 in the movie from the 90's and the Charlie's Angels reboot in 2000. I never saw Cocktail, which she's also known for because I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan. 48:05 it reminded me of Khal Drogo in season 1 of GoT.
Fun review as always! Glad you finally covered the quintessential American movie! Also, happy to see that you screened and exhibited ROAD HOUSE in the original anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio (lensing courtesy of the great Dean Cundey). I will gladly share this to my upcoming RH documentary project's social media pages for ROAD HOUSE: THE QUINTESSENTIAL AMERICAN MOVIE. Well done, folks!
The auto shop owner Red is Red West he was part of Memphis Mafia Elvis' bodyguards. He was also a stunt man, I believe his last movie was Tombstone. He was the stagecoach driver. That brought Billy Zane and Dana Delaney to Tombstone.
You two are adorable! Love watching your reactions. This movie brings so many memories of the clubs in the late 1980's! I recall a lot of bar fights! haha
Hi guys. Kelly and Jane are not related in any way. She has been in a ton of movies. Drugstore cowboy with Matt Dillon and Cocktail with Tom Cruise and Bryan Brown for two. The waitress (CarrieAnn) was played by Kathleen Wilhoite. Morgan was the big guy with the beard who Dalton fired first. He was played by Terry Funk who was a former pro wrestler. A Roadhouse is another name for a random place where you can get a drink and a meal.
"I ain't got twenty bucks!" 🤣 The actor pimping his wife's chest was a famous voice actor for a lot of cartoons. 1980s voice for Starscream and Cobra Commander 🙂👍 Plus Morgan the bouncer who gets fired is pro wrestler Terry Funk 👍
He was also the original voice of Mr. Burns in season 1 of The Simpsons. Harry Shearer has been playing Burns for over 30 years now, but he is mimicking the voice Chris Latta created for the character.
In addition to Ghost, you guys HAVE to see Patrick in To Wong Foo (that's only the first third of the title lol) - it costars Wesley Snipes and John Leguizano. Please watch it without looking at any photos or descriptions :)
The part at the end where the bar owner says "this is our town...and don't you forget it!" makes me laugh every time. I don't think buddy is going to remember that when he's dead 😆
A true cinema masterpiece, fun fact, the guitar player Jeff Healy was blind from an early age and taught himself to play guitar in his peculiar fashion on his lap
5:10 RIP Terry Funk aka Morgan in this movie. Legendary professional wrestler, and legit badass. If the cast of this movie actually got into a fight in a bar, the smart money would be on Terry Funk being the last one standing. But he was also a real kind person in real life. If you stay in professional wrestling long enough and have success, you'll eventually have other people/wrestlers in the business that hate you. I've never heard of anyone having a problem with Terry Funk.
The scene with Dalton, Elizabeth, and Wade at the diner is such a great character building scene. Elliot and Swayze have incredible chemistry. Was hoping a Wade/Dalton sequel would have happened, but when they killed off Wade, those hopes faded (although could have been a prequel kind of thing, I guess).
29:22 - Flashback to my childhood. My dad and his cousin, (my cousin too, obviously), both owned auto parts stores in Brooklyn. I don't know why Dad decided to bring me, but we went to my cousin's store after there'd been a fire. Nothing was left. Absolutely nothing. Aside from all of the parts that were mechanical - made of metal - there was a ton of flammable substances, some of which were under pressure. Place went up like an explosive torch. So, despite this movie having some of the cheesiest cheese to ever cheese out of the 90's, Red's place going up in flames always brings me back to the smell of that burned out shell of a building and my cousin in tears. 😢
Two things I wll say. Love your intro song as it's totally identifiable. Also love how Samantha introduces herself. Keep up the great work towards 500K :)
The bands lead singer is Jeff Healey, a blind guitar player. He awesome his biggest hit was Angel Eyes, but As Time goes passing by and See the Light show his guitar skills
Let us not forget the iconic song-intro "Don't Throw Stones" by the band: Cruzados. The Jeff Healey Band was great. Let's also throw some love at the band chosen with the honor of opening up this cult classic flick!
I graduated HS right before the summer of 89, and several friends had jobs at the Universal Cineplex so for almost 2 years, I saw tons of movies for free. Sadly most were garbage(as most movies often are), but every once in awhile, you got a diamond in the rough, and Road House was one of those films. I saw movies I would have never thought to watch, as eventually you ran out of things you wanted to see, and just watch whatever to kill time. Over those 2 years and tons of movies, Road House was for sure one of the stand outs, and it is still just as good today as it was back then.
Never, ever apologize for laughing during the original Road House. It has an unequalled amount of unintentional comedy.
I feel like all of the best 80s movies are like that 🤣
for sure its basically a comedy powerhouse

It’s not, you’re just a dunce.. humour is part of film.

Sam Elliot isn't cool because he has a mustache. Mustaches are cool because they have Sam Elliot.

5 stars: bad words, violence, strong sexual content, explosions, tits

The movie starred Brian Dennehy. He nailed it.

I'm not ashamed to admit it. I've watched this movie countless times w/ my wife. I've never caught that.

Reminds me of a line in the movie Brainstorm. It's something like, "Have you seen Hal?" "No." "Well, he's dead." 😆

Aw man Cocktail was such a great cliched 80's flick, such a guilty pleasure. That and F/X are a cool Bryan Brown double-bill.

The actress is Kelly Lynch. She appeared in some movies like Cocktail,Drugstore Cowboy,Charlie's Angels and has been on tv shows like The L Word.
Brad Wesley's death is believed to be based on the real life death of The Skidmore Town Bully, Ken McElroy in 1981. Skidmore is in Missouri and Roadhouse takes place in Missouri.
lol 22:20-22:50 little things like that is why I really enjoy watching you guys and this channel. glad you enjoyed it, it's some prime 80s cheese
"The fat guy's alive under the polar bear", is a hell of a sentence without context. 😆
This is such a fun movie. You guys should see Red Dawn with Patrick Swayze, highly recommend watching.
Oh yeah forgot about that one
Good suggestion, I hope someone on their Pateron list recommends it. An 80's classic that's for sure, with a lot of big name actors in it.
@@utcnc7mm it's an underatted film.
A great Sam Elliott movie is Mask. It has Sam Elliott, Cher, Eric Stoltz, Laura Dern.
TBR and Samantha, you should react to Red Dawn, the 1984 version, with Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, Jennifer Grey.
I second that... absolute classic
Great suggestion.
Keith David originally had his own subplot, but most of his scenes got cut. That's why he got prominent billing despite having only one line.
Damn that’s rough
My ex dragged me to Titanic 4 times. I now laugh every time Leo turns into a mini iceberg 😂😂😂
@@clevelandcbi popsicle
And you are proud that your wife divorced you sounds to me like she dodged a bullet.
@@TylerGage-op5hs no actually it’s the other way around but thanks anyway 🤣
One of my favorite movies 👍. Thanks for watching❤️🌹. This one is absolutely the best.
OK, that poll.
Soooo excited to watch this with yall! One of my all time favorites! " Road House!"
Bill Murray prank calls pal Mitch Glazer( Kelly Lynch's husband & co-writer of Murray's movie 'Scrooged" ) everytime love scene with Kelly & Patrick Swayze comes on ,while watching Roadhouse.- Its actually been going on for years !!😁
Love that musical intro TBR 🙏😊
29:25 That ambulance ripping through the fire scene at about 90mph always cracks me up.
Lmao!
Dalton: “Yo Steve you’re history”
Steve: “But I’m on my break” 😂
Let the man enjoy his break Dalton jeez 😆
"Pain don't hurt." - James Dalton (1989)
I always liked this movie. In the series "Yellowstone" Taylor Sheridan(writer, director, and actor), his character stated that "Roadhouse" was the greatest movie ever made.
Road House is one of those movies I'll always watch if I come across it on TV.
Always seems counter intuitive to me that Dalton seems to stay healthy, not drink, makes stank faces at pastries, practices Tai Chi and martial arts, but smokes first thing in the morning.
So fun to see the both of you laughing but trying not to at 22:26!
I'm actually named after Dalton so special movie for me and Sam Elliot is great in this
Named my youngest son Dalton after this movie. He is 33 now
He was like the wind....🎶🎵
The director, Rowdy Herrington, was a stuntman which is why the movie is as action packed as it is.
And the word "roadhouse" is a generic term for the type of bar it is.
And yeah, Peter is always roundhouse kicking somebody when he says "Rrrroadhouse!" 😂
I'm glad you guys loved it. I was kind of worried before hand. Lol
16:28: “Why does everyone have a knife?”
16:40: “Another knife??”
Lolololol😄👍
42:25 the only other movie I've seen with Kelly Lynch was Curly Sue with Jim Belushi and Alisan Porter, who later won The Voice as an adult. But she was only 9 in the movie from the 90's and the Charlie's Angels reboot in 2000. I never saw Cocktail, which she's also known for because I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan. 48:05 it reminded me of Khal Drogo in season 1 of GoT.
12:00 Sam is still confused after the explanation because she isn't aware of leaded gasoline. 😄
I loved seeing Kathleen Wilhoite singing alongside Jeff Healy.
She's a good singer too.
You guys are great watching reactions together, keep it up love watching your reactions, your faces on the throat "RIP" priceless!!!😅
I recall a lot of bar fights! haha
Ben Gazzara, who played Brad Wesley, also played Jackie Treehorn (the pornographer) in The Big Lebowski
He treats objects like women man!
"He's home... Where the fuck'd you look?" got me laughing as bad as Samantha was 🤣 Literally kept watching that over and over it was so funny.
The man playing the guitar in his lap is blind and his name is Jeff Headley. Awesome guitar player.
Jeff Healey. RIP 🙏
And the bartended was John Doe (Lead singer, songwriter of X)
Jeff Healy, one of the best blues men ever. R.I.P
@@drg3712Bassist too
@@drg3712 John was recently in the 2023 remake of the noir classic D.O.A.
@22:20 had me laughing so hard, I was crying 😂😂
Cracking up with you guys at the “we were looking all over for you” Part 😂😂😂 22:17
You wrote "$20" and "twenty bucks"?
@@burntvirtue yeah I know 😂
The Doors song Roadhouse Blues is covered by Jeff Healey (I think.). A roadhouse is just a dive bar.
Road House is so cheesy it's fun , the concept of celibrity bouncer was hilarious. And I love when an actor goes all in as a villain
Just found this channel and have been going back and watching their content. Already my favorite reaction channel. Love these two
Some of the first lines i remembered and referenced as a kid were " you're too stupid to have a good time" and "pain don't hurt". super classic : p
Dart: "I've been looking everywhere for you"
Bullseye: "Are you kidding me? I've been RIGHT HERE."
😂😂😂
The character “Red” was played by Red West who was Eivis’s best friend and bodyguard
Cult CLASSIC!!!!!! So glad you guys did this one!!
this has been on cable repeat since the 80s! people love this movie. personally, Ive seen this probably 30 times. once a year for decades
They say violence solves nothing, but after watching Road House you realise it solves everything.
Lol!
Cool reaction as always Schmitt & Samantha, you both take care
@MrTBRSchmitt.. Welcome
Uncommon Valor starring Gene Hackman is a great movie that no one has reacted to. One of Patrick Swayze's first movies. Also check out The Outsiders.
Black Dog (1998) is an underrated Swayze trucker gem.
