- TOUR The BEST SHORT SKOOLIE WE'VE MADE
My name's Chuck, I've been professionally converting buses for the last 7 years and was director of operations for a bus company before that.
IN THIS VIDEO, I'll give an in-depth tour of the best bus we've made yet, covering the systems, design, and features of this top of the line conversion built for @REGRETLYSS1

I particularly like the blue lights on the oven
Oh my gosh I absolutely love this bus… this is really the build I have been dreaming of. It has everything I have wanted. Wow great job
I Love all the planning and thought that went into designing this, man it's so nice
You should've had the "night blaster" on the back of the bus too just in case if some jerk is tailing her then she can just turn that light on and blind the heck out of the dude. lol
A square of that rubbery shelf liner placed between the stove top and lid will make it not rattle. 😊
Put a couple of those little round pieces of felt on that stove to stop the rattle....you can get them in a package with different sizes and they are self adhesive!!
Incredible, thoughtful, attractive build...just like you. 😍😊🔥
Cut little build
I’d keep an eye on the matting you used under the bed. I just removed some from a shorty that was completely riddled with mold.
just love the build
My only suggestion for nearly all of these small builds would be to round the corners near entries or doorways. It's a small space, relative to a house, and rounding the corners provides a softer surface when the person inevitably bumps into something. There is a lot of really excellent work here. I enjoyed this video.
Absolutely beautiful build and so homey looking. The lay is awesome; what size is her bed?
This is excellent, I’d go through you for sure.
I watched the whole thing and learned a lot TY!
This is my favorite shorty layout I think I've ever seen! I also love love the 7.3l Turbo Diesel :)
How much did the conversion cost?
I honestly think this is the best shorty I have seen. It's easily 4 season livable, while balancing all the amenities with being small enough to actually boondock in fairly remote areas. You guys knocked it out of the park!
Thank you! That was the goal!
Well said.
I agree❤
Absolutely my favorite build of all of them I have watched. I’m 78 yo and I could actually live with this arrangement. Love it!!
I love it, but where do the clothes go
There is a closet at the back of the bathroom
I have a lot of questions but one is how to make all these storage to pull out storage as the bags the tables I think it would be fun for the kids to have more storage in their room and it would make a great place for them to have the storage in the room even though it's an apartment the way you made stuff fascinated me and I would like to try to see if I can make the more room
You're definitely my new favorite builder! I have a van, but your experience and expertise is useful in all builds!
I bet if you put a weighted blanket, or similar, over the stove cover while you're driving then it won't rattle
Which is nice!
Lol you got me
she's a very lucky woman to own this, dare a say PERFECT and beautiful bus. you've done an incredible useful well thought out and efficent build. if i ever get my dream fulfilled i'm going to insist you're "the guy". mucho kudos! ☮
Being a woman who’s been told repeatedly how lucky she is to have something (a bus) or how lucky I am to travel full time I just want to throw out that maybe we all rethink what we’re saying. She’s not lucky. I’m not lucky. We both worked very hard to get the things we have and live the way we do. I don’t mean this as aggressive or argumentative just meant as a “think about it” talking point. It’s always been so frustrating for me to hear how lucky I am like this all just fell into my lap. No, I went through hell and walked through fire to get where I am and to have what I have. I imagine she did too.
@@ginabrytowski3564 it's just general use of the word lucky. many of us have walked thru hell, we're just congratulating the woman, relax a liitle
@@lindaward3156 I do love that instead of acknowledging how you word things may not be the best you turned it around on me (and anyone else who might feel the same). It’s my fault because I can’t relax. Not at all you’re responsibility to watch how you speak. Seriously I love that I even said it wasn’t meant to be argumentative just pointing it out. God forbid you look at how you may have misspoke. Nope it’s definitely someone else’s fault
@@ginabrytowski3564 oooh you're definitely carrying a chip on your shoulder making something out of nothing.
@@lindaward3156, it's so unfortunate that in today's world, one cannot even congratulate another on a superior job well done, to the people responsible for such a superior build. And to congratulate the owner of such a superior creation. But then to be chastised on how they worded it? Just amazes me.
okay now build mine Chuck
This is by far the most beautiful and best laid-out short skoolie with the BEST features I have ever seen. Great build!
Did you ever figure out the cheaper version of the Lagun table? I was going to use black pipe, but even that's not cheap.
Vermont plates
Nice
nice built , how wide is your bed and your bath room ,regards .Arthur
thats is insane how ingenious that build is. blows my mind how talented you all are.love how rio is just chillin on the bed.
Thank you so much!
@ 33:22 to 34:47
There are are expert carpenters who are very good at bending wood successfully; luthiers, guitar makers, violin makers, etc. They invent their own equipment and develop their own techniques such as wetting the wood, and while moist, inserting it inside a hot pipe; then rolling it to curve it and give it shape at the right angle. Perhaps you should research this at your local library.
6,37 secret power ... lol big blue box ...
That swivel table is amazing
"Living in a van down by the river" idyllic life 😊
With all that being said what is the cost of van and build cost of labor and materials?
Please we need a figure so we can budget because this may be the next phase of life.
Thank you blessings and aloha
Old video, I know, but... What is the hinge on the exterior door? I'm looking at a similar door for my bus, but -- of course -- the hinges are visible from the outside. I've looked at security hinges, but it feels kind of like a hack.
There is probably a lot of rust coming from Vermont. Lots of salt and mud, yes there is a mud season there.
The bus wasn't from Vermont!
@@ChuckCassadyYT that's a lot better
👌🤣Boy! She has a very nice sense of humor!! And the dog in the middle of a nape… You all made feel home… 👍 💛💙💔🇻🇪
Magnificent build. She and her pup are very lucky to have this home💕
Gerry, thank you so much for the kind words! Happy to see you here
I'm sure you are joking about added dirt..LOL but it also serves a purpose.. people might think that there is nothing good inside worth stealing..
What brand is the stainless steel commercial fridge? Thanks
Hi Charlie.. Stumbled across Regretlyss some time ago, and watched most of your build videos for the Monarch. This video was great… a complete and concise encapsulation of all the modifications that you and your crew performed which helped answer some questions for me. Alyssa posted a video last week of her 20゚below 0 experience that raised some concerns from me which I addressed to her in the comments section. Your video cleared those questions up, specifically that there is both a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector, and that the propane equipment is vented. Your video referenced the vent for the on demand hot water heater in your external walk around, but nothing was said about a vent for the oven. Is it vented?
Great video, Charlie, and an amazing build. Your knowledge and craftsmanship are 2nd to none!!! I wish you the best and whatever the future holds for you.
What waterpump did you use
That bus is pure art !!! You have some mad skills Charlie.
All of you guys ar chrome yellow did a fantastic job on Alyssa‘s bus build. Keep up the great work and don’t stop making videos. I love watching them.
?Questions?
Regarding spray foam insulation: I remember reading and hearing somewhere that sfi causes metal to corrode/rust.
Is there any credence to that, and what brand did you use, and was there some separating barrier you used?
Thanks - and nice job!! This is obviously the envy of any neighborhood!😂
P.S. What is the fuel mileage?
P.P.S. How many windows long was this bus before renovation?
I've got 105 k on mine I just bought but the rocker arm bolts broke on one rocker arm I had it fixed but I hope she lasts
I watch regretless religiously and you have taught me so much! I wish I could have you do my build but I do hope you enjoy your new journey and will be watching out for more of your work ❤️
What is the adjustable table called?
Was that a Doug Demuro reference around the 14min mark?
Schwing!
@@ChuckCassadyYT awesome!
I really like the bed and bath side by side in this. I wish it was feasible to fit it in a transit van, then you could use the swivel chairs in the cab to make a seating area and NOT have the bath in the middle of the layout.
This genuinely is the best build I've seen on a small bus. Gorgeous and user friendly!
Thank you!
@@ChuckCassadyYT you literally thought of everything and sharing these details matters to those looking to build their own the right way. I love tiny home and conversion tours, but they're more about the anesthetics..which yours is too..but not a detailed representation of what needs to be done..especially if you want to charge more than a cell phone. The freezer is brilliant with food insecurities lately or just being able to boondock for more than a few days.
Whew that was a lot of ass kissing. Lol.
That is very kind of you! We try!
I think that the layout is very nicely done. This is what I call a very convenient DIY with out any hassle. Sometimes a DIY made personally from others come out be at the end very inconvenient and space wasted not to mention very little storage to put anything. Very well though and organized. A++ for this Video.
The safety features are everything! I'm beyond impressed with this beauty! Talk about a house on wheels! So beautiful! Happy adventures Alyssa!❤️🙏
My favorite short bus build I have seen. I love this one. I absolutely love the turntable aka record player.
Thank you!!
This video was very long but I loved every minute of it. I really enjoyed all of her videos of the build. You did some fantastic work on this bus, she's lucky to have had you help her with this, it's quality.
Loved following Alyssa’s channel for this build and watching you and your shipmates (er.. shop mates* but going to leave shipmates because that sounds cool) tackle this great build! Definitely has given me some ideas what I want to do when I decide to take the plunge. Great work and came out phenomenal!
For both you and Alyssa:
1. What was your favorite part of the build to work on?
2. What was your least favorite/more difficult item to do on the build?
3. Hindsight, what are things you would have done differently/changed?
Also, Charlie (sp?): How difficult is it to do a slide out on a skoolie and have you ever done one?
i like this guy (and Alyssa). this has been my favorite conversion ive seen, and I've been trying to put my finger on why, since there are so many extensive exhaustive expensive builds on UA-cam. I think the main thing I like is that it seems to be built around emotional comfort. the first tour i saw was a video with Alyssa, and it seemed like she prioritized how the space felt, more than the average build.
also want to shout out the floor plan, I've never seen this in another conversion. (with the wall down the middle)
Thank you! This is a very special bus
This is more lavish than any cribs show mansion. Amazing job and research I to designing a fully functional road shelter. Mastercraft shortbus, it almost feels like you're in multiple rooms, but it's one short bus.
This is the level of understanding that will be required of the average person to exist in the near low energy future. Hopefully this type of wisdom reaches the general public, because most homes are anything but modern
I am I love with her mini bus I see how well she lives in her spooling home. It’s cozy comfortable and really homey like❤️❤️👍🏻😎
WOW, ALLISA HAS COME A LONG WAY FROM BROKE AND DRIVING THE OLD BRONKO WITH THE TOILET HOLE IN THE DRIVERS SEAT TO THIS EXPENSIVE BUS BUILDOUT. THAT WOULD BE A SUCCESS STORY TO HEAR IF SHE IS WILLING TO TELL IT.
That couch is fantastic.
Thank you!
Thats right, the more battery capacity the better as far as power storage goes
There isnt such thing as too much if you got the room and the dollars!
What you think about Multiple 2006 Ford E-450 6.0L Powerstroke
Not my favorite motor by far because of some major design flaws but when they are fixed, they make great power. I'd personally not but one
@@ChuckCassadyYT thank you
@@ChuckCassadyYT what would you recommend for short bus?
Amazing, the best I have seen. I can`t believe how much you were able to do with such a small space.
Y'all made an incredible machine! I'm really floored by the amount of "thought-of-everything" put in there. Great work!
❤!
What's the name of the projector? What Sideview cameras do you recommend for a 40ft? I'm buying a 40ft that already comes with a backup camera.
Beautiful work and teamwork.
I apologize if this has been asked and answered, cant search the comments. I was wondering if you could tell me what backup/camera system was used and is it incorporated into a stereo or is that separate?
You guys did an amazing job and it’s very impressive
Excellent build.
Great job you did. I followed the build. you and your crew did beautiful build. That you for taking care of all. You're a class plus guy.
Aw man, thank you kindly!
what are the Dimensions of the bed ?
It's a double/full
Amazing work!! Best set up I've seen.
Thank you so much!
Anyone know of a place in Canada that does these conversions?
I don't, I'm sorey
Great build Charlie 😎
Brings me back to my auto body days
So glad you have your own channel now.
Been following Lyss since the beginning of her channel. Now happy to watch your channel as well. Lots of luck with it! ✌
Thank you!
A really nice bus conversion! Wishing you safe and wonderful adventures!
that lagoon table seems to function a lot better than most others I've seen. i also like its rounded corners.
that ceiling is awesome and i usually dislike wooden slats on ceilings. it is so tight, too, that it almost looks like butcher block or even bamboo.
That is a fabulous build, beautiful design & love the colors, the Rio sweet!! enjoy be safe
I heard that aftermarket dirt is expensive 😂😂😂😂
The prices these days are ridiculous
What did you charge her to build this ? thanks
After having watched this video I went and watched Alyssa’s videos on this build and I really loved it.
My question is: If I wanted to build the same couch, bed, extra seating combo… would Rachel be interesting in freelance building that for me or helping me figure it out? Her carpentry work is some of the best I’ve seen.
This i# one of the best layouts I’ve seen. Great job!!!
A purpose for closing vent and running, is to recirculate hot air that rises. Works great with my wood stove.
My favorite Skoolie build ever!!! Chuck, can you share the contact info for the “Tony” you and Wess referenced in the Live you did a few weeks ago? He is the guy you said helps people find their bus.
Wess is on YT as Transcend Existence and Tony is at AAA bus sales in AZ
pls tell me hes trolling with the whole rubbed dirt on it thing?
Love this. Wish it were mine. I would get a steam cleaner to get the wrinkles out of that panel cover for the over-cab cabinet.
Beautiful, great job!
Seems like a lot of big heavy stuff in there. Lithium based batteries that large are generally composed of many 10s or 100s of smaller cells. They can short and go into thermal runaway. Not to be a downer but they burn at 700 to 1200 degrees. Just beware of the risks. These battery fires cannot be put out with water as they produced their own oxygen, and at that temperature, they will burn anything in their vicinity. It happens rarely, but when it does it will be a total loss of assets and potentially worse. This is the largest safety risk of this rv besides driving . Thats a ton of energy stored in that space.
She has been fine
The Ron Burgundy of schoolie tour guides!
Great build. Definitely a bus that has it all and makes you feel safe in all situations and at home.
I gotta say, hats off to the bathroom and bedroom layout. Not saying other builds are bad but I think having a very huge bedroom on a bus or van can take up extra space that can be used elsewhere.
I bet two average size people can sleep on that bed comfortably.
I love this layout!
Man oh man, I love that ceiling wood running East to West, everyone goes North to South, this looks so much better. what a great build ,Simple amazing. O know you are not going to tell us how much a build like this would cost to have you do it? What is the longevity of the electrical system, batteries etc.
This cost about $97k. The batteries have a cycle life of 10-15 years and all the equipment is a 5 year warrany. The solar panels are 25year
@@ChuckCassadyYT Thank You kindly for answering my questions. If I remember right, you are out of Denver, right?
I couldn't love this bus build any better, such a great job
I could so live in this. You hit every point that I look for in these. Full fridge/freezer, full bathroom/shower (spacey) and at least a full size bed. The oven size doesn't matter much to me, I love how you did the bed and bathroom side by side instead of in the back where you have to go over the bed to use the bathroom. Turning it like that makes so much sense to me. I just love this design, I would want to put in a retractable tv somewhere like at the end of the bed or in the front of the van but the seats maybe. Somewhere lol. Or a mounted one at least but otherwise I love this!
thank you!
I think the projector and pull-down screen take the place of a retractable tv?
34:50 In regards to #Maxxair #maxxfan. Moisture is causing issues with PCB (circuit board). Everlanders I believe was the first video I saw about this a few years ago. He removes PCB and sprays with conformal coating. There are components that need to be taped up before spraying. Everlanders maxxfan Link: ua-cam.com/video/lkIDSVldJis/v-deo.html Roam Overland Vehicles has a video on this as well from February of this year. Great recap of the build. Love your thought processes and problem solving, great creative solutions! Thanks for sharing!
That is one of the best shorty buses I have ever seen! Great work, Charlie! Looking forward to more of your content.
Thanks a lot!
Drinking game, drink every time chuck says “witch is nice”
haha you figured me out! be careful with that game though, you'll end up on the floor!
This bus is perfect!
The van body buses don't have an intercooler. And then overloading it. Takes away any of the reliability that was talked about with the motor.
Its still under GVWR so I would hardly call it overloaded. Ive yet to see these 7.3s fare any worse than when they're in the big buses. Whats your experience been with them?
@@ChuckCassadyYT I didn't mean this bus was overloaded. I was saying in general a lot of people buy these buses for the exact reasons you correctly pointed out, they just correlate it to the intercooler version in a pickup truck. So they take examples that don't directly apply, its apples to oranges. The bus has no intercooler and 215hp. The trucks have 275 and an intercooler. My experience is over 1 million miles on the 7.3psd. Not in 1 vehicle but in 4 since 1998. I drove a 7.3 everyday since then until April of this year.
I saw where you said you weighed it and not enough people do that. This bus has a 20,000 gcvwr as a 450. Its really the only one I would recommend builds like this on. The gm short buses after 2003 use gas or the duramax lly which are probably better options for drivetrains but the buses only go up to 16,000 gcvwr because gm has a notoriously "conservative" rating system. Those are good builds for less extravagant builds.
At the end of they day all that matters is how hard you press your right foot. Take it easy on hills with no intercooler and you'll be fine for the most part. Its the overloaded builds towing a car on a 16,000 gcvwr thats the "overloaded" referral. Most are using e350. That weighs 11,000 pounds stock. With a 14,000 gvwr. That means you have 3000 pounds to add to a stock 350 short bus.
Also payload capacity is the number above curb weight to determine gvwr. And they all have a tow rating of 0 on a bus.
