This actually became my favorite song on the album.
Hi! I respect that. Take care.
@@michaelreactions Thanks for all you ABBA reactions!
This song is a masterpiece! ❤️
The words Dignity, which these fabulous four humble people are known for, this song is so powerful.
How would we each write an ode to our freedom? Especially considering this dreadful war in the Ukraine and how we as as the human race will write freedom of choice, love and care for our fellow man.
It's also a fitting end to Voyage, as they take their final bows on the world stage. It brings tears everytime I listen to this.
Chills! This is the closer song to their final album. They 'left' us waving goodbeye with this hymnic 'wish'/'pray' as you said it.This track has already become a symbolic song for many people, similar way another closer track had from their 1980 Super Trouper album that was an anthem to friendship and forgiveness..Give it a second listen. It's a beautiful cinematic soothing grower.
"The way old friends do' was the closer to "Super Trouper' album that was also the closer to their last world tour that's also in a live video from Wembley '79.
Breathtakingly beautiful ♥️
This is like a new "graduation song", ending a carreer... But....
The message is (to me) :
We should not wait for freedom... we have to work/fight for it (to the extent of our possibilities).
See ya, Mike. ❤️🇨🇱👍
Yes good point. They won't impose us the way as if they arrogantly know everything. They humbly aclaim we have to work/fight if we want this.
Gorgeous and moving. What a way to close a glittering career. It's not pop.
Agreed.
Gives that enya vibe
"Ode to Freedom" (2021)
is an extraordinary ending to what may be ABBA's extraordinary musical and group journey
I believe that the last thing ABBA has done is to be aware of its Legacy and to be faithful to it, to perpetuate it to the new generations
That is why I believe that this new album "Voyage", perhaps the last of ABBA, is a trip to eternity in the history of music.
In particular, I feel that this song is sung by the four of them together from beginning to end, although Frida stands out strongly in the lower tones and Agnetha appears as a beautiful second voice in the treble, the men do the background voices
my new suggestions:
1) "People need love" (1972)
It is ABBA's first single , 51 years ago
there's a first TV perfomanece in Sweden with all four youngest
2) "I've been waiting for you" (1975)
beautiful ballad of love, there's a TV perfomance in Musikladen 1976
3) "When I kissed the teacher" (1976)
there's a funny video with all four at school
4) "Move on" (1977)
an amazing coral song
5) "Summer Night City" (1978)
but live at the 1979 London Concert
My best regards to You from
Buenos Aires , Argentina 🇦🇷
South America
Thanks once again Eduardo. When you think about this song this way, yes, it gets another dimension. And thanks for the suggestions too. Take care.
Review from The Guardian November 5, 2021
«…Ulvaeus recently said these songs were written “absolutely trend-blind”. It shows. Including tracks such as the rejected 1978 single "Just a Notion" (a reminder of early, jangly Abba glam, but nothing more) and "Bumblebee" (a naive attempt to say something universal about climate change) makes you doubt their quality control. At least Voyage’s finale, "Ode to Freedom", hints at a grand, closing statement, pastiching and stretching a phrase from a waltz in Tchaikovsky’s "Swan Lake". But then its lyric talks about the futility of writing an ode that’s worth remembering, which leaves an odd note, especially when we’re talking about a band whose songs are known around the world.»
Fortunately there were far better reviews than The Guardian's to VOYAGE which was rather stiff and kinda sour and caused some controvesy.First time they gave them 2 out of 5 and then quickly followed a next one 3 out of 5.! after an army of people disagreeing with the reviewer and complaining for prejudice...Such as The Times(4 star out of 5)Rolling Stone(4 star)Pitchfork(7.4 out of 10),All music (4,5 out of 5) not to mention The indepented(5 star). Abba themselves had said that this was the first time they got so much better album reviews but they still wouldn't care. They always knew they had the huge following and aproval by their fans who bought the records and made them big as Benny stated.
