    I just recently sold my CLD99 and replaced it with a Enlightened Audio Design player. Model T-8000. Its a bloody beast of a player. Cost original $5000 back in 1998!..thats crazy. I got it for £400. Not Bad!

    continued...
    I've also cleaned the lens but the problem isn't this. It surprises me because I've just bought the laserdisc and is close in mint condition.
    I don't know if someone took apart some parts from the inside or change it for others, but if this was the case I don't know if there was any sound at all.
    I appreciate your kind support friend !!

    I stopped in my local Goodwill a few days ago and found this same player (Pioneer Elite CLD-99) for $25!! It was missing the rosewood side panels and the remote, but worked perfectly so I grabbed it! Now off to the store to buy some laserdiscs! Oh...wait a sec... :)

      Not this one! The CLD-99 is considered by many LD aficionados to be the best laserdisc player ever released for the U.S.

    Well I sold my CLD Elite 99 for a enlightened audio design player. I would say if you have the money to spend get a CLD-97 or a Japanese player like the CLD-R7G or LD-S9. But if you are on a budget get a CLD-704. You want a player with good noise reduction, AC3 output and quick changeover to Side B. Only 10% of titles suffer from rot mostly SONY pressed titles. Check the laserdisc database website for rotted titles.

      Hello there
      Does the Pioneer CLD-99 Elite have the "CLV Smear" that the Pioneer CLD-D703/D704 has?

    @TWX1138 haha well im very picky with what films i got on LD. Ive pretty much stopped buying LaserDiscs now. I've got everything i wanted. Unfortunately there is no LaserDisc player with component output. LD is a composite format. If you're interested improving the picture then i would suggest getting a CLD R7G, CLD99, CLD97 or if you have the cash a HLD X9. Don't bother with any of the combo players the LD picture playback is pretty average.

    Hi there,
    the remote doesn't have sound level adjustments but can you switch between digital and analogue sound. Its seems strange the audio is outputting very quietly. You can use the standard RCA connections to a TV, the red,yellow and white cables. The laser head may need cleaning. Just remove the lid of the player and the clamp above the laser head can be easily removed, just a few screws holding it in place and clean the laser.

  • @OliverHarper
    @OliverHarper  13 років тому +1

    @strictlysega I think because LD is a analogue signal and was design in mind for CRT's. You can get good results with LCD TV's, depends how the tv up scales the image, how you adjust the colour / brightness levels and the fresh rate plays a part in reducing image blur. Make sure if your running the LD player on a LCD use composite not S-Video.

  • @spazzman90
    @spazzman90 12 років тому

    The more picture information your display is capable of showing, the more any flaws will be exposed. LD was a fine format, but there was still an important step that was constantly being improved. That was the process of transferring the film to video, and this improved and varied alot over the life of laserdisc even up through dvd. Now that we are digital at all steps of filming, mastering and transfer, some leeway will need to be given for films made prior to the mass adoption of digital.

    @8wealthyone8 oh damn right it would have cost me a fortune. LaserDisc was pretty much only for the rich folk back in the day. You would have to be mad to spend $200 on the original Star Wars trilogy boxset when that came out. The new LD player i have now cost $5000 back in 1998. Picked it up for £400. bargain.

    Well the Pioneer player cost me about £600 about 7 years ago. Which ive now sold. The LaserDiscs prices varied from £5 to £80. You see i got into LaserDisc when it died out and a lot of the titles were going very cheap. Some titles still go for a lot like Criterion collection titles, dts titles and some rare last releases on the format like " The world is not enough and X-Men.". But i probably spent around £2000.

  • @OliverHarper

    You can get the criterion release of Robocop on LD. That has great picture and sound, actually i found the PCM track to be better than the bluray.

    Hey Matt, Elite models don't play PAL titles only NTSC. Don't bother with PAL players. Just get a dedicated Pioneer NTSC player. PAL titles were 90% of the time looked weaker than the NTSC transfers.

    Hi.
    I have also this laserdisc player, the Pioneer CLD-99, but I have a problem with the sound, it soud´s very bad and very low, very bad if you play laserdiscs but worse if you play CD's on it.
    I want to ask you if this laserdisc model needs special connections or if it can be connected to a tv set.
    I don't have the remote and I don't know if there are some sound adjustments that only can be made by the remote, and therefore can affect the sound reproduction.
    I will appreciate your help !!

    Oh Wow you got rid of one of the best laserdisc players released in the US. Allegedly it has a sharper picture than the CLD-97 and CLD-95 from what I read online. I disagree with people in comments section saying the CLD-97 is a better performer. I do however think the CLD-97 and CLD-95 look better cosmetically.

  • @fdosilva
    @fdosilva 14 років тому

    Thanks for your answer !!
    I have tried with a remote of the Pioneer CLD-S250 that is surely simpler than the one of the CLD-99, and I've tried changing between digital and analog lest and right chanels, but the problems stays the same. The sound is not only very low but also is very bad, it sounds like I was using broken speakers, do you know what I mean?

    Is laser disc better than blu Ray ?

    • @PetersPianoShoppe
      @PetersPianoShoppe 9 років тому +3

      @100464567140370798068 No. Laserdisc maxed out at 425 TVL res for NTSC discs and 450 for PAL, compared to 480p for DVD and 1080p for Blu-Ray. (and over 4000 for 4k!) A few very expensive "Squeeze LD" editions featured anamorphic transfers that improved resolution; you needed a special player to even play these discs and those players were, for most people, prohibitively expensive. Basically, laserdisc is important because it pioneered (no pun intended) so many things that became standard for home theater: Dolby Pro Logic, and then discreet surround sound with Dolby Digital AC-3 and DTS, chapter indexes, freeze frame, commentaries, extras, additional footage/unreleased scenes, trailers, alternate versions, anamorphic transfers! The people who created Laserdisc editions, and the people who bought them, were true lovers of film and the medium of cinema, and a lot of love went into giving fans a total experience.
      There are a scant few remaining benefits to laserdisc, provided you have both a good player and a good TV or upscaling receiver. 1) The titles that remain unreleased on DVD or Blu-Ray that you can still get on Laserdisc; this includes a myriad of live music concerts and video collections, and 2) the higher bit-rate PCM Audio streams, AC-3 tracks and especially the high bitrate DTS tracks on DTS laserdiscs sound truly amazing with a good system, and only blu-rays of recent movies with Dolby HD or DTS-HD mixes that were shot and mixed with those audio formats in mind will sound as good. For an audiophile, it's fun to keep some laserdiscs around.

    • @referencechannel996
      @referencechannel996 9 років тому

      Leon Watson It's not a matter of being better.
      Some transfers are actually better if you like the film-like quality look, insted of artificial colors and amazing artwork covers.

    I have about 500, and I use a CLD-D604 player as it has DTS capability. My older CLD-D503 is sitting on the shelf in case the 604 croaks. What I'm looking for, though, is if any player ever made has Component video instead of Composite or S-video. Unfortunately the LD/DVD combo units appear to only use Component for DVD...

    Quality analog looks better than a poorly mastered and overcompressed dvd, sure. But sources indentical with someone who knows what their doing at the compression stage? DVD blows it away. You're nuts if you believe that across the board. No thumbs up here.
