hard to believe this was Mark Martin's last multi-win season until 2009.

@2:28:00 Epic foreshadowing regarding Mark Martin. Incredible broadcasting!

I hadn't realized how good Kyle Pettys qualifying efforts were for '99.

I loved how Eli mentioned that Ralph, Dick and Buddy would be working the Winston (now NASCAR) Cup Michigan race on CBS the following weekend.

When Viacom acquired CBS and TNN later that year, they should've let CBS Sports produce the TNN broadcasts.

Hard to believe Tony Stewart was half the size he is now.

To this day I still have yet to see a rookie season the likes of Tony Stewarts 1999 season. Unfuckingbelievable

@@Dante.the.inferno Probably Jimmy Johnson's rookie year. It would be an interesting question posed to former drivers.

@@AndyFromBeaverton I dont think so. Tony had 12 top 5s and led over a 1200 laps compared to Jimmies 6 top 5s and only just above 600 laps led. Tony was competitive on every track including road courses. Jimmie was an embarrassment on road courses in his rookie year. Tony only had one DNF that year and it was a 9th place finish at Michigan in June when he ran out of gas during that caution free event. Jimmie had quite a few more DNFS and driver related DNF issues than Tony in 1999. Tony finished the year strong with 3 wins in the final 11 races while Johnson faded mightily after his Talladega run in with Mark Martin. And that's just off the top of my head. I have more stats to back up Tony Stewart being the greatest rookie to ever step in Cup and I dont even believe it's close. Many would agree.

Tony was good on all the short tracks. Richmond he won. Bristol night race he led 242 laps in the spring he was the fastest car for a while and led 55 laps. Martinsville he won the spring pole. He was mightily impressive at Daytona and Talladega literally in the Diehard 500 passing Earnhardt Sr. for position and the lead on two occasions without help and finished 5th in that race. 6th in the fall event. 6th in the Pepsi 400 while running with the leaders all night. He finished 2nd in the Duel 125s to Earnhardt Sr in February. He won the Sonoma pole on the road course. He had a string of 24 straight races where he finished outside the top 15 just ONCE and that was a 20th place finish at Martinsville in the spring. In fact he only finished outside the top 20 just 3 times that year. 28th at Daytona 500 36th at Las Vegas and 41st at Martinsville. And he led 17 of the 34 races that year. He also placed strong 4th in the standings going up against the likes of Dale Jarrett Mark Martin Bobby Labonte Jeff Burton Rusty Wallace and of course then 2 time defending series champion a prime Jeff Gordon in which he beat that year and out performed. Sorry but I dont thinkit's close.
