the point of having prompts is to just give you ideas of something to draw if you come up with a piece inspired by it who cares of the prompt is a big enough part of it
Love love love this piece! I would totally wear this on a t-shirt haha Nice work :) and I don't think you copped out. I think as long as the prompts are present, even if they aren't the focal point, it still counts.
kasey, you sound really happy in this video!! your voice is so light and positive, and has such a lovely cadence! hope we get to hear this in more of your voiceovers, and i hope youre having a great week!! x
Tip for using texture: use it ONLY when the texture of the object isn’t clear. Eg, it looked good on the mouse and her clothes since it conveyed the denim and fabric. It didn’t look so good on the knife since a knife is metal and clean of texture. This is a lenient rule tho soooOOO
The only two reasons why I clicked on this video: Because your channel is the best and I love it. And because of the adorable little mouse on the thumbnail! Edit: oh.. may... sunflower seeds... That's so many likes!
The thumbnail was so cute and it turned out even BETTER and Kasey your fine prompts arent supposed to literally be in the art, it's to give you ideas! This prompt gave you the idea for this piece so you did it. That's my philosophy.
Drawing prompts are honestly just for inspiration, it doesn't need to be amazing! You're putting your good skills to use by getting your creative juices flowing. You always make something fun and interesting for the eye to follow!! ❤❤ Thank you!
Wow great art Lexus ones again! I really love the mouse’s outfit, and the shading of the snake. Also the extra birds and mice were a very nice touch to the piece
Your use of color pencils as shading reminds me so much of a lot of the way medieval art looks so it seriously matches since you've got a hero that slays the big monster!!! I also love the faded distant birds idea!!
It's so dynamic!!! Every detail is so beautiful, I love it. There's also such a great cartoony look that makes it perfect. Also, the snake gore is awesome. I have a puzzle like snake thing and it really reminds me of that.
I love how the snake only looks mildly inconvenienced. Like he’s been defeated but he’s certainly not dead. I still really liked the idea that the belt was around the snake’s mouth, but I also love the final product :)
I love the combination of the flat washes of the watercolor and the texture of the colored pencil. Very pleasing to the eye :) Also, I really enjoy the one white mouse.
I think the prompts are just there to give you a general idea. The real focus of this series is to produce something creative. I don’t think ‘coping out’ in this is really a thing, you know? So just be creative about this and don’t worry about trying to make the prompts the main focus. You’re doing great, Kasey!!!! :)
OMG I FINALLY FOUND THIS CHANNEL AGAIN OMG I AM SO HAPPY I LOST IT ALONG AGO AND YOU INSPIRED ME TO DRAW BUT I STOPPED FOR SOME REASON BUT NOW I MUST DRAW AGAIN AFTER FINDING YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH!! 💞
Personally, I really love the subtlety of how you incorporate the prompts into the picture because then it becomes like an "I spy" sort of thing. Maybe that's just me. Regardless though, I love this one. The composition is so fun and the colored pencil texture turned out so good!!
I really loved that illustration! Even this shading with crayons looks really great! I agree with you that adding that black shade/texture with crayon was a bad idea. But it still looks cool. I love your style and goofy ideas you’re soo creative with this prompts
I don't think it really matters how big of a part the prompts play! The point is to get you out of your comfort zone a bit and draw something you probably wouldn't have drawn otherwise. I think as long as you feel that happened then you are all good! And I have loved pretty much all 95 of your prompt results so far. No complaints from me! 😍
You have your own style and I like it. I wouldn't be able to have half of the creative mind you have. Good work, there are always going to be complainers, ALWAYS!!!!!
I actually really love the coloured pencils in this illustration. They make - suitable for this motive - the whole picture seem "edgier" because of their rough texture and the dark shading; especially on the snake. I do agree that colouring in the knife was unnecessary but hey, we all learn by trying out. I also prefer water colours because I love to just take the primary colours and black with me when I paint outside while with coloured pencils I'd need to carry many more just to have a wide range of colours.
Something you might enjoy using is a colourless blender pencil crayon. I found out about them not too long ago and they're amazing to blend the pencils together and get a smooth look and gradient to it.
For rough textures like for fabric, fur, bark and rock, use colour pencils. For more smooth textures like metal, liquid, slime and scales use water colour. Hopefully this helps, I just wanted to say that I like this piece and my favourite part was the the shading on the pants, I thought the colour pencil was perfect there.
you can use mineral spirits, gambsol or paint thinner to blend out the colored pencil if you want a smoother look or to try and fix an oops like the knife, and it won't affect the watercolor underneath.
😱 Kasey! I really like how you did this prompt! I like imagining that the snake and mouse were somehow thrown into the air and your piece shows them in slow motion diving back to the ground. Somehow the mouse hasn’t fully realized their battle is over and they’ve won. Then the snake is just reevaluating its life, wondering how it came to this moment. I’m probably overthinking this, but I just love this piece!😍
Kasey don’t be so hard on yourself of the prompt ideas🤣 it’s a fun learning process and I like how you always try something new in each one(btw they always turn out great)😉👍🏻 wish I had your unique cartoony style🤣
I've been reading this graphic novel series called "Amulet" and the way you drew the snakey boy reminded me of this smokey, serpentine thing called "Sybrian". Basically, amazing drawing and keep doing what your doing
Somesthing you might wanna play around with colored pencil texture is layering different colors on top of each other or layering white on top of other colors. You can get a glossy texture and it's really fun to play with.
Kasey, I know that you aren't that familiar with colours pencils so to help you I think you should know about the following: 1. When it comes to colour pencils you can layer to achieve any colour you want. 2. If you want a smooth texture with colour pencils you have to options, burnishing and or colourless blenders. Either way has its pros n' cons, by example when burnish something it won't layer anymore, and some colourless blenders are toxic and flammable. 3. If you don't want your colouring to look streaky do small circles rather than lines. If want to know more about techniques you could use I recommend you watch Lachery Fine Art or read some books on it.
I love all the details in this prompt!! I hope you are really proud of this piece!! I would.. But im happy for a new prompt!! have a FANTASTIC WEEK KASEY!!! Im so wierd.... haha
After re-watching this video I am remembering your more recent attempt with watercolor pencils. (Oct 19,2019) I think you just need to decide what you want from a supply or tool and work with it until you can make it do what you wish! I have switched between many supply's over the years and you can figure out more effects that you may want to accomplish, It does take TIME! Urgh! yep it is THAT four letter word! I have noticed more commercials in this run through of your prompt series. I do hope it continues to make you some money you did/do work so hard on these prompt videos! Keep doing what you do Kasey! We Love it!
omg what if instead of the mouse cutting the snake's head off, it could be suffocating it with like a really big pair of socks. also i loved this prompt! the mice were sosososo cute
Ooo it would have been really cool if you had the mouse character high diving and cutting through the snake from above. But hey, your illustration still looks just as cool! Thanks for making these videos!
i dont think you need to be so worried about having each prompt be an extremely key feature in each piece you do, as long as the words inspire you in someway, you're good! Thats what prompts are for, inspiration, not to limt what you're allowed do to.
I love how Vibrant the Colors Are!! You are So Talented! That availability of color choice is one of the big watercolor draws for me also.. especially starting out when you don't have as many colors but you can just mix them. Also the texture of the color pencil does work really well with the jeans .^_^.
I agree with you on the knife. I think doing some of the shading with watercolor and then adding texture with pencils might get you where you want to go overall. All-in-all, this is a successful first attempt. I especially love the mice and birds. 🙂

A giant serpent threatens to send his reptilian army down upon the village, to consume their Essence, what gives them their mouse-like capabilities and spirit. I'd have drawn a flamingo bc when I was like 5 my teacher read us a legend that said that two flamingos killed some snakes and used their skin as socks and then the other snakes bited the flamingos' legs, so that's why they stand on one single leg
For once, I disagree with you. You can mix colored pencils by layering and obtain what ever color you want. It takes more time that's all. You can also erase or lift some layers with a simple tool: scotch tape! Color pencils are painting tools too.
That's true! But I think that's a bit harder with prismacolor pencils right? I mean, you can definitely layer polychromos a lot (and often need to) but I'm not so sure about prismacolor pencils.
I love using colored pencils with watercolor! One thing you could do is use watercolor pencils then you could use a brush and smooth it out if you don't like it :) love your work!
I like your birds and your in charge of your drawing, set the prompts aside as you see fit or as much as a focal point as you desire. I prefer watercolor pencils so the mixing is always easier if I can not get the color or texture I want without water. OK back to the spot I left off. . .Yeah I skipped ahead!
As long as the prompts are in the image, I don't mind. I actually enjoy it when you take the image in a completely new direction and use the prompts as accessories.
It's okay, don't worry. I would have made the sock like a sack with a slice of snake meat but this is you and as long as it's in there I don't think it's ever a cop-out. It's to help with inspiration and things one normally wouldn't draw.
The way you draw mice is almost as cute as the way you draw ants. ALMOST.
Move over ants!
the point of having prompts is to just give you ideas of something to draw if you come up with a piece inspired by it who cares of the prompt is a big enough part of it
I'm glad we can agree, hahaha.

the point of prompts are to give the artist ideas of what they could draw. as long as you draw something, you completed the task.
