Remember reading the news items of this war as it progressed. The Chechnyans really stuck it to the Russians with series of ambushes on vehicle colons. Particularly in the cities like Grozny. The Russian losses were immense in that war as well through sheer stubbornness and stupidity. Instead of adapting to the circumstances. Ukraine shows the exact same kind of mentality.
Yes and no. Russians now use the same tactics vs ukrainian tanks as ukrainians used year ago. They adapt, but it still suprises me how russians looked at the beginning of the ukrainian war like they not learned anything from chechnya...
Yes they did good ambushes. But when russians fire shell after shell into a big city until its dust then its no use. The hardest fighting when russians actually lost the most were on mountains. But it didn't take them as long as other countries fighting insurgents to take them out. Fighting such a irregular forces that can just be a combatant when they wish is never easy. Russians just decided the quicker but more costly route. I believe the ukranians wont be able to do any succesful counter attack in the future and their armed forces will slowly be drained or equipment. Thats atleast looking at their newest counter offensive.
The Russians have just defeated the infamous Ukrainian winter/spring/summer offensive without the Ukrainians event being able to reach the first line of defences. The Ukrainians best troops - NATO trained, NATO equipped, NATO led - literally couldn't even progress through the lightly held pickets and observation posts the Russians have in front of the defence lines. So the Russians seem to be adapting just fine. What doesn't adapt is the propaganda. The Germans coped hard in the late 1940s and 1950s that they hadn't been defeated by a superior, mechanised combined arms force led by excellent generals but by endless hordes of mindless "Ivan's" charging blindly forward in human waves. 75 year's later and NATO is still coping with exactly the same memes. The Chechens have a reputation as good fighters, but now they and the Russians are fighting NATO together. So, NATO's problems just get worse and worse.

Its amazing what Russia can do with so little money . I have seen videos of the early 2000s and 90s. Very interesting to see what a big country can do to defend itself. People really dont understand the amount of money, fuel, logistics is put into just a simple 2 week field problem training for us! even for 1 month training is so much money. Money and resources is really behind many modern army ops. Russia on the other hand was fighting home grown terrorism for decades! that takes allot of resources even a small operation. I see very little armor on the soldiers.
Especially when you consider that almost all the weapons the Chechens have are Russian, sold to them by corrupt Russian generals, for their own profit.
Why are you talking about a country and a topic you know nothing about??? I know Russia and they have budget for military, there isn t only the US that has a military and having been for 2 years in the army, check in what conditions where their opponents, with khalachnikovs and without any long range artillery. Sound like a 12 years old boy playing call of duty and don t know what kind of video game
Russia historically had huge success with producing military above it's limited resources. Starting with so-called "orientalization" of army in late 15th century. Which essentially jump started modern Russia. On another hand US military budget is a black hole of corruption and waste (not that US military is bad, it just costs far more than it should). So direct comparison between such polar opposites is indeed baffling.

@@medievalarmorexptert6827 It was just a comment on a particular event of the war.

@@cuorenerazzurro1661This was during the fall of the soviet union, when russia was very poor. That's what he's talking about.
