I just bought pureraw 4 and it’s a gamechanger for me. Noise reduction and the sharpening is amazing, like lifting a veil from my Sony A9 and 6700 images, I shoot wildlife so need high iso quite often and it’s such an amazing product, I am really excited about what I can do now.

Hy KoolPep - Agreed! PureRaw is a game changer for wildlife photography or indeed any high-ISO photography.

    Thanks for the review.
At the moment I'm using DXO PureRaw 3.
I got it to sharpen my Fuji raws because LRC does not do a great job with the Fuji raw files.
I do mostly macro and wildlife and the difference is pretty noticable (yes I'm a pixel peeper :D).
And as you said, I just patch process all my picture and let DXO do it automatically.
Would be great to see the difference between Version 3 and 4.

You're welcome ickebins (good name). In a nutshell, the difference between 3 and 4 is not image quality but the Smart Lighting feature and the Preview mode. These are fine quality of life improvements that I expand upon in my written review. Check it out :) silentpeakphoto.com/photography-software/photo-editing-apps/photo-editing-app-reviews/dxo-pureraw-review/

Good comparisons thank you! Oddly I have found Topaz to be quicker when using prime conversations. I also bought ON1 (in my quest for the best) and found it close to unusable with Z7 sized files, very very slow! Ps. One DXO conversation took 75mins!

I have been using Topaz AI for years on my bird Photography. Should I try the DXO 4 do you think it would be superior? Thanks.

Hey Ken. DxO PureRaw is better than Topaz Denoise AI - and you should definitely take it for a spin. If you're referring to Topaz Photo AI, its a much closer fight with Topaz Photo AI having an edge thanks to been able to correct poor focus and motion blur.

Topaz Denoise AI doesn't keep up with my very old DXO Pure RAW v2. DXO Pure RAW v4 is a big step up by all accounts, so I expect it to wipe the floor off the Topaz counterpart. You can't fairly compare DXO Pure RAW v4 to Topaz Photo AI, since the latter is a complete RAW processing suite and includes other pieces of software for sharpening and fixing focus/motion blur etc. Compare noise to noise reduction modules ONLY.

@@davepastern. I think it depends on the objective. If you are solely interested in noise reduction, I agree that Topaz Photo AI is more than you need. However, if you're looking for outright image enhancement - DxO PureRaw vs Topaz Photo AI is a legit comparison. Perhaps I should do a vid :)

    - Compatible or not with additional LR- Accentuate ?

@@silentpeakphoto1845 I think You did not understand my questions, at least not my second one.
Either I formulated it badly, or You dont know this feature by Lightroom I refer to (and you can run this proceedure only once per photo), but I'm unsure how it's named in the english interface, this new denoising tool operating on IA.
So II think it's likely both.
Or You gaslighted by skilfully mixing together seperate words of mine used in both questions.
You sayed that dxo's deno8sing is one of the best you know. How can You do such a film without minimum research (to respect your cust9mers) first, and state at least witch ones You refere to ?
THAT canot be difficult, for You to remember exactly((!) witch current relevant other noisereduction systems (based on AI) You refer to. Wich are they ?

    • @davepastern
      @davepastern 6 місяців тому

DXO has always been compatible with LR classic as a plugin. I've seen 3 other reviews showing it being used as a plugin too (DXO v4 that is). So yeah...I haven't upgraded yet (still running v2). By accentuate, do you mean the new blurring module? If so, I can't say, don't use it (it looks unnatural).

      @@davepastern Thanks for this !
(And no I mean acentuate, the IA denoising (witch sometimes I use at only 10 with stunning result). It might be picky and refuse "dxo-raws".
Or it could be redundant in a negative way. I guess I should try.

@@silentpeakphoto1845 No. I've moved on to another product since DXO is not interested in their customers. Of course, many companies are like that these days. They hide behind their telephone systems and websites. You cannot lodge a complaint anymore to a Manager with almost all tech based companies. It's a sad departure from how the world once was.

unstable as fuck, constantly crashes to desktop (DXO Pure RAW v2 works flawlessly on the very same laptop, with the very same problematic images) . Not all images cause the crash, it's random.
This version is buggy as hell - avoid at all costs.

DXO do have something of a track record in releasing buggy new versions, which is very irritating considering the high cost. I purchased mine I early August 2024 several months and a few updates into version 4, and it is running smoothly on my Mac. XD2 really is excellent, so it might be worth giving version 4 another chance...

@@hywel3143 yeah that's a great point. Money is tight atm and want to get a few things for my camera setup first (2nd battery for my R3; thinktak large rain cover for my EF 500f4 and another Angelbird CFE b card and finally rawdigger). Have had some pretty horror money issues over the past 12 months that have meant I can't do anything that I want.
I'm still getting great performance out of v2 DXO Pure Raw.

Make sure your gpu drivers are the studio version and updated

@@foliumcore yes, I did that before even posting a bug report to DXO. Uninstalled and reinstalled, updated both Win 11 and GPU drivers and Nvidia studio. DXO was just very unstable for me. Meanwhile, v2 ran without issues - on the same machine.
