This video is very outdated - there's 4 complete areas as of this comment and a bunch of mechanical changes. I'll probably wait until it's not in early access to re-review it.
Never watched your content before but found your video when trying to find one for the game for a friend, glad to see you're already aware of all the stuff, hope the review goes well. o/
Thank God. That's the one thing I didn't like about the original game was messing with my vision. Playing fast-paced flashy games already damages my eyes, I hardly need any more strain for them :) And even if it didn't hurt my eyes I still wouldn't like it. If it changed the way you see the world in a way that did not hinder you, that would be fun. But blurry, dark, short-sighted etc. is a commit suicide and roll another trait moment for me :)
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to enjoy food. The tastes are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Flavourtown most of the calories will go over a typical eaters head. There's also Gordon Ramsay's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Jay Rayner, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the Flavour in his meals, to realise that they're not just tasty- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike eating thousands of calories a meal truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Gordon's existential catchphrase "It's fuckin' raw," which itself is a cryptic reference to Jonathan Gold. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Rouge Legacy's genius food/int correlation unfolds itself on their 144hz dell monitors. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a Gordon Ramsay tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎
Thank you for this review! For what it's worth, I really appreciate you pointing out how ludicrously small this Early Access build is. Basically no other UA-camr has done this. I respect CDG and think they've done an amazing job on the design of this game, but putting the game into EA with just one complete biome and a HIGHLY confined skill/equipment tree feels like a blatant move to merely give adoring fans the opportunity to support the devs. Which I guess I will be doing, but I think we should be honest about what's going on.
Yeah but you can buy it for less than half the price, you can suggest features that you would like to be in it, I know it's not a complete game, but it's definitely worth it imo.
After playing for avg 2 hours, I was done for now. The game as it is, is just too boring. There aren't really any exciting additions that makes this sequel worthy, hell it just feels like a 1.5 most of the times. When they delayed it release by a month or 2, I thought they'd be like 60% complete but it seems like they're barely started as they only have the core mechanics but that is Early Access for you. Also don't you just love all those "I can see shit" traits, just lovely.
bought this when it came out on steam, and i gotta say i agree with the review. Was a huge fan of the first one so i was very hyped for this, but there's very little available content right now so it's kind of a "skip/wait-for-deals" type of moment imo.
I think it's worth it if you already have Rl1 on steam you can save up to 20% (till the 25th of this month) and when it'll be released next year it's gonna be 30 Euros (don't know how much in dollars) instead of 13 and something which I payed
The type of moment is that its early access, tread with caution lol. Why are some people almost looking at this as a real release? Its early access lol
@@NeutralGuyDoubleZero Because "early access" is a loose term. Even a game that's 90% finished is still considered EA. A lot of people like using the EA card defensively to say that any fault of the game is excused because it will potentially be fixed in the future, but the issue is that they are just promises that can end up becoming false promises for various reasons. Also, I said "skip/wait" moment because a lot of games EA games get discounts when they get released if they were in EA for a long time so they can get new players. I'm just saying it's not so worth getting it now due to lack of content, and it's simply an opinion.
@@phantom4dive Fair enough, missread what you meant on the last bit, my bad. I disagree somewhat on the early access definition stuff though. Early access is often twisted in meaning yes, but it has a correct usage. That being games that are finished enough to have a complete, enjoyable slice of content that needs more time/money to finish the rest. And rogue legacy 2 fits that quite well in a positive way. I also didnt really enjoy the reviewer here, maybe it was because of his tone but he sounded really overly negative
Love the video! Here's one for the algorithmic gods. Your reviews are quickly becoming my go-to source of roguelite reviews. Also, I'd love to know your opinion on Catacomb Kids, I haven't played it, but I'm wondering how it compares to Vagante. I might've already asked this, but I'm not letting this go, as you wouldn't (contact damage).
Thanks mang, hopefully the algorithmic gods will grant me good fortune this day (or tomorrow when the game comes out, hopefully that wasn't a misplay). I definitely have catacomb kids on my list, but I still need to do undermine, then risk of rain 2, then I'll probably need to play something else so my head doesn't procedurally explode.

@@2Lainz oh, haha I was trying to look for it everywhere. It would've been perfect boss music for my tabletop game I'm running. Thanks for responding though
Its still close to a year away from release. Its incredibly early in development. Judging it that wholly this soon is like reading the first few pages of a book and being like "eh, it was okay, but I liked the last one better".
Yeah I was really expecting more innovation OR significantly more content during the alpha. I refunded the game after 1.5 hours because I was just bored. The OST isn’t nearly as good either.
This looks so cool, id gladly play normal single player platformer (or even better- metroidvania) with these graphics. But not roguelike, i hate this genre, so no monies from me this time.
Case in point ladies and gents as to why I never buy early access games. I actually despise the concept, because the end game can be completely different from what is shown in early access, so why buy early access? Short answer; dont.
this just focuses so heavily on things you don't personally like, doesn't feel like a good objective review of the game itself. The mechanics are what they are, and if you don't whine about them constantly it's usually more fun.
So what is a review suppose to be then? I just talk about this mechanics and nothing else (which I do anyways in the first section)? This is MY review - I played the game and I'm giving my thoughts on it, I don't think reviews are an objective process, at least not entirely. Most of what I complain about are pretty valid complaints shared by other people, so I don't know why I can't mention them. Also by "constantly whining" do you mean when I mention contact damage very briefly 3 times, or vision related traits being so common?
@@2Lainz I should have expected an aggressive reply from such an immature reviewer. You hang up on issues that are game mechanics and always have been and focus more on negatives than positives. You spend twice as much time talking about what you dislike as you like. Objective means observing the game for what it is, not being triggered that you suck at avoiding contact damage and can't understand the heir system.
