  • We caught the overnight sleeper train from Budapest to Berlin! The entire journey took approximately 15 hours and was quite the experience. We were quite impressed with how comfortable the beds and pillows are and the air con worked like a dream! Unfortunately we were kicked off the train early and had to navigate our way to our hotel via a different and unexpected route. We weren't given any reason as to why we had to disembark early, which was a little confusing and bizarre.
There were different types of tickets you could purchase for this journey, we opted for the private 2-berth sleeper carriage and paid $140AUD per person. The ticket agent we purchased though is "Trainline".

Nice report! I‘m booked on a 2-berth sleeper from Budapest to Stuttgart in July, I’m very excited!

Wow, that really is quite dark 😮haha what looks like it was a mirror 🪞Surprising that your bed was comfortable! Oh… Booted off the train!! Sounds like quite the adventure! Good to know that trains don’t look like our jam either 😂

Enjoyed it, thanks! 😍 Arriving in Germany has been a roll of the dice lately cos of all the reconstructions n lack of communication. :( but if there were a lot of police it could have been a group of unruly pax onboard who didn’t know how to behave. We get those as well unfortunately. Europe still has a loooong way to go to make long distance train travel a viable alternative to flying.

Thanks, glad you liked the video! ☺️
Germany is miles ahead of Australia in regards to cross-country train travel , we love the convenience and ease of it (albeit , not everything always goes to plan 🤣)

Thanks for reviewing this trip, I'm booked on it next month. But I'm wondering a couple of things.. was the noise that bad compared to other overnight trains? Or can it be overcome with earplugs for instance? Also when you were kicked off do you recall the station? I am booked to go through to Berlin Hbf, but I'd actually like to get off at Berlin Südkruez as I'm connecting to a flight at BER and should save me time getting off early. Thinking your negative might be a positive for some..

      Hey Cameron! You're welcome ☺️
In all honesty, I (Kristy) quite liked the train journey - Steve definitely did not though. I slept great with ear plugs and the bed was pretty comfortable. I believe were kicked off at Ostbahnhof, (not 100% sure) but it sounds familiar when I checked on google maps. Id do the journey again for sure👌🏽
Let us know how you went! Would love to hear your thoughts....
