Thank you so much! Means a ton, been working really hard at it, and gonna go back to a lot more traditional content as well as these big videos as well. Appreciate all the support
Ah man I got to use this in class just now. Worked really really well and even had success against some higher belts. im going to keep repping this out. i appreciate the free knowledge, thank you!
Happy to hear it! It’s such an effective system it honestly is so easy to implement immediately, if nothing else you can stifle their open guard by keeping the shield, takes a bit of time to learn to deal with the strong shield but over time gets easier
Roger Gracie been doing and showing this for a looong time. Typically starts by grabbing pants outside of knee shield leg and then same side hand controlling their bottom leg and leaning pressure on knee shield while inching forward to eventually pop over the knee.
Yeah that’s kind of a variation similar to an over under and I have seen him do that before and it’s definitely a similar concept trapping the foot out of play. I have started playing with that as well now too. I think Paulo Miyao does it as well now too. This system reminds me a bit more of Lepri style.
Holy moly! That's a lot of information packed into one video, but was easy to understand. I'm in this position a lot and never thought that I could use their knee shield against them this way. I liked the live portions of the video and maybe for the future, you can add some narration along with instructional portion. Great stuff Coach!
Yeah I was thinking about just adding that in at the end of the video would be easier to fit in there and not break up the flow of the whole video. Great idea
It is just combining different passes and knowing your grips. Purple and up study your game and develop your way to pass with your prefered grips. Combining far, middle and close distance passing. Combinations is the way to go.
Incredible! I've been playing around with this concept since you told me about it a few weeks ago and its been working really great. Cant wait to work on it even more. Thank you bro!
Great vid as always.. And that last lasso thing is actually genius. This is awesome.. the things you show in your videos really fits my game and has helped me alot through the years!
Thanks, will try all of this. (Shoulders flat, not get in rdlr, no lasso) But people often use a stiffarm with their left hand (to push and hold u before they quickly lasso) or use their left hand as a cross collar grip also stiffarming.
Hell yes. I always thought that half guard/split squat camping was even more powerful in the gi than in nogi. Yet it seems to be used a lot more by nogi guys. The part covering the strong shield/Z guard is great too. Lots of people will switch to this when they feel the pressure of the first position. Very interesting video
Thanks a lot! Yeah it’s such a powerful concept just locks the foot out of play and wears on opponent. Another great concept is toreando from there I should have covered it in this video but forgot to include it. Great clip of Leandro Lo doing it vs Adam Warzinski.
I think this is a concept a lot of no gi people use, I haven’t seen it but watching Gordon a bit I see him in the shield a lot but it’s usually on both knees.
@@JonThomasBJJ i first started thinking about using the split squat camp in the gi when i saw this meregali video ua-cam.com/video/-GmEu4ckOdk/v-deo.html . interesting concept as the grips make it allot easier to force him flat. Thanks for the knowledge!
Yeah I should do a whole video on reverse dlr passing and also I should have mentioned more in this video how to prevent it early. You want to make sure to hold the ankle of the trapped leg long enough until you place your shin down.
I believe that a passage that could be complementary to this would be the Rigan trap, for the DLR passing. If you can't force your opponent to put up a knee shield and he continues to insist on a DLR, you can resort to this pass, which is very simple and difficult to defend against.
I’m the super flexible dude (in the way he is talking, not flexible in other areas) my main guard retention goal is get my feet or knees in and always stay attached in the quicker stronger guys.
Question: at 12:00 could he shrimp away to his left and making space to thread the right leg back in around your waist line in order to return to closed guard ?
Hey! It would be really hard the top leg is smashed so it can’t even shrimp it would need to be the bottom leg but you can’t really turn out of that without massively opening elbow knee space and giving a pass
Imo you have the best jits content on the internet, everything is well explained and made easy to digest and understand, appreciate it coach

@@JonThomasBJJ God bless, may you continue to have success!🙏🏽👊🏽
I love it when people who know what they are talking about have the ability to explain it very well! Nice video, appriciate it!

Hey Jon! I got couple of insights from this video! Thank you very much!

So happy to hear it! Also can’t wait to catch up on call soon buddy
remembering hearing you talk about this on a podcast recently... glad to have this resource available!
Yeah that was with Matt Kwan right? Happy you heard that one!

3:11 "I can't let you get close!" (Chael Sonnen)
lol great reference

Brilliant! Love these longer detailed videos.
Thanks so much! Was fun to make!
i love knee cuts thanks for the details
If anyone tried this on me I'd simply stop it
Always the best option!
lol
Break the wrist, walk away
That's what I was thinking. When Jon Thomas tries to capture the knee shield, I will just not let him.

I've been doing this for a while but never saw it explained like this
Yeah me either it was a new concept for me as well I’m sure people have done it before but understanding it this way really changed my passing
Please do a folding pass video - love the content !
Definitely gonna do it!! Been working it all more as well as back step passing.
I like the term weak shield , ty
No problem happy to help
good stuff! this reminds me of the split squat camping position in no-gi
I think this is a concept a lot of no gi people use, I haven’t seen it but watching Gordon a bit I see him in the shield a lot but it’s usually on both knees.

Good stuff!
How do you relate this style of passing to what Danaher and Gordon call 'camping'? Seems like the knee shield is under attack these days.
Thank you !!
Could be good to add the reverse delariva pass with this !
Yeah I should do a whole video on reverse dlr passing and also I should have mentioned more in this video how to prevent it early. You want to make sure to hold the ankle of the trapped leg long enough until you place your shin down.

Folding Pressure video please!
100 percent gonna start working on it soon!

that's solid shit. thank you.
Thanks happy you appreciate the effort that went into it!
I have to try this! Anything to get past the %$#^ knee shield.
he should be getting his feet on your hips in open guard
