Unless I could build my own plant pack by choosing several plants from a list, I wouldn't buy a random plant pack, I don't like surprises😂
For that red root floater try no lid, low surface agitation, and some bright light. Also high nitrates seem to help the red along with light. Good luck girl👍🏽CORY GANG GANG‼️‼️‼️‼️
I have red root floaters in most of my tanks, and the reddest ones are in the tank with the *lowest* nitrates (they bloom constantly in that tank, as well.) Covered or uncovered hasn't made a bit of difference, although I suspect most people would disagree. You're right about good light and low surface agitation, though. Red roots (pretty much any floater) really dislike strong agitation/flow.
I have really high pH like you guys. All of the leaves that came in on the banana plant melted. I culled most of my floaters and only kept what could fit in a small ring of air tubing so the banana plant and pennywort could get more light. Helped them both a lot.
The bulb plant is probably a tiger lotus. I have one in a 20g high and it's pretty big. The leaves go up to the surface, and I have it in the back of the tank. That's a nice plant pack! Good video!
Yes sure does look like a Tiger Lotus. Dwarf lily have arrow shaped leaves when the leaves are young
Ooh how fun! I will just adore it if it reaches the surface!!! 😊
It is. I have a few in a 20 high, as well. One is in a back corner, and I let it go its own way, but I keep the ones in the foreground nice and compact by just cutting off the odd leaf that grows to the surface. They really are beautiful plants, I love them.
Just found your channel a little while ago and I LOVE your content!
9:06 those barbs are beautiful... Are they snakeskin barbs?
I. have Java fern all over the place 🤓 thanks to you 🐠
Hi Joanna! 😊 Ugh, I was late to watching your video again this week and the livestream…but I was at the Shedd Aquarium today! My first time and I loved it!! I thought of you and Jason, seeing many of the fish you both feature on your channels. I especially thought of you when I saw a tank full of anubias! 😊 🌱
I enjoyed the unboxing! I think the plant packs are great for people just starting out or that want variety. At this point I would probably hand pick what I want. I hope the red root floaters work for you! I’ve tried once or twice. I had a great run with them, they even flowered, and then one by one they decided they were done. I was sad to lose those. I LOVE red plants. I’d like to try the tiger lotus!
I love the little rummy nose rasbora, I can't find them.. they are always sold out on the site I use here. I love my amazon swords but no lie, heavy root ferts are needed to keep them thriving. I'll get mine two foot tall and boom I forget to replace ferts and they suffer. They hate bright lights. When they're in full glory, they're gorgous! 💚💚
I know this is your "working tank" but the scape is so natural and beautiful. Having this many plants is absolutely stunning
I do the same thing with bacopa! I love caroliniana but I prefer monnieri. I find the larger the leaf, the less robust it does underwater and is stronger above water. But monnieri is small enough that it does very well under water. But like you, I float them first, and I never get rid of even the tiniest baby sprout because I know it will eventually grow!
That's a great idea for beginning aquascapers. I wouldn't do it now. I already know what does and does not work in my water.
I tried that. It worked out fairly well. (Gina)
Much love from Canada. I just love how I’ve gotten to know your tanks and fish. I look forward to seeing all the changes like I do my own. 🩷 You’ve convinced me to get some rummy nosed rasboras, too.
Same on red root floaters, Joanna! Thanks for getting this bundle and giving us a good view of them. I might have to give it a try. :)
If you do - good luck!
great video, im just starting to get into live plants so this was fun to watch, I love the idea of a beginner pack I don't know much about plants so that would be a great way to introduce me and let me play around with a bunch of different ones to see which ones I like.
Hey, I killed a banana plant once! Fun! 😂
Thanks! Now I have an image stuck in my head of a tiny bunch of bananas running from you…
@@thesmallscape 😆
A great day for a new video. ❤
Good morning!😃☀️
Nice! I'm going to grab one of those myself. Probably wouldn't have without this video. Thank you!
This might go on the shopping list. Great idea and the pricing is good.
It does work out nicely! Especially for the size and quantity of some of these goodies here 🙌
Hello Joanna. Great video. I can tell you about your banana plant. I loved mine. It will have leaves of course. But it also has shooters that go up and across the top of the water. And mine bloomed at the end. It was a small kind of bumpy looking flower that was white. It didn't really take that long to grow either. Oh and the roots that came out from the bottom found the substrate and grew down into the substrate. Mine did not like being transfered. It died. I waited for it to "come back" but it did not. Something to keep in mind though. But who knows? Maybe I did something wrong. I don't 🤷♀️
I really enjoyed this video. Awesome to see your fish and plants up close and personal. 😅❤John 3:16❤🌸💗🐥🍭🪴❣️💞🐰🪷
Thank you so much! Amen 🙏
Very nice🩷
Thanks Joanna. Lovely footage 😊
I bought plant packs when I started in the hobby. They are generally priced really well and you get a good variety.
😊💚💚💙💙
Great video and plants. With red root floaters i have only had success in uncovered tanks with no to very low flow. They hate the humidity caused by a lid.
Ok thanks for the tip, Darryl! Wish them luck! 😂
Red Root Floaters like light and hates surface water agitation and really hates humidity. I would rather pick my own plants. Some of those plants that came in that package i wouldn't want. I know its kind of random on what you get but that is an expensive gamble.
My red floaters only do well in my low flow betta tanks. This probably explains it! Thanks!
But I also got my new batch from a local dealer who has similar water parameters to me. That might be helping too.
Is that a red lizard catfish @ 6.15 ? Love them - so goofy !
I'm way too picky about what plants I get to get plant packs. 😅 I get a picture of what I want my tank to look look in my head and nothing will dissuade me. 😂
I can certainly understand that! That’s me about half the time 😊
That is a very good deal…some of those plants go for more than $6.
I have done this before and will be doing it again in a couple of weeks. So excited to see how each pla t does 😊
How exciting!! Yay - it was sure fun opening and not knowing what we would get 🙂
As always... absolutely perfect! 😊
You’re too kind - have a great day!
@thesmallscape you too. I would love to come visit your gallery one day! I'm in Va tho
My ludwigia always turns out to be long stems with root sprouts going up and the leaves at the top.
Banana plants are cool. I had them when I was a kid. Niw you fave me the idea to buy another one. Excellent plants. Do you quarantine the plants?
I would totally let someone else with more knowledge pick my plant. It’s hard to know what works well when you start out. All of mine have been happy accidents that ended up working 😊
Haha - I too love accidents, unintentional stuff usually works out best 😊
I get that they pick the plants for you but why make you guess what plants they chose for you? Dustin's plant package is the same way. Yeah, it was only $20 but I wanna know what the species are that I'm killing. 😂😂😂
🤦🏻♀️
After my last order with Flip Aquatics, I'll never order from them again... 🤷♂️
Oh no!! Did you reach out to them regarding your issue?!
@@thesmallscape Yes, paid for all my DOAs but not the ones that died just hours later... It is what it is when ordering online... 🤷♂️
I think you’re great Joanna but the plants don’t look very healthy. 😕
Well, we will see how they do in our tanks - they all definitely looked better when they first arrived. I floated them for a couple of weeks until I could get them into our tanks. 😊
