    This is already one of the best brewing channels on UA-cam. Your production values are crazy good. Have you had another channel before?

      Yo, thanks that’s super nice! This is my first UA-cam channel but creating content is a huge part of my day job. And my girlfriend is a photographer - she helps me out with thumbnails and a lot of the filming.

      @@HopsANDgnarly I'm loving it so far. Do you have plans to do videos where you show off some of the finished products? I think doing an interesting video on tasting notes is difficult, but it's also cool to show off the fruits of your labor.

      Yep thanks to everyone’s feedback and a lot of brainstorming we should have a couple new episode types toward the end of the summer including drinking some beers from the kegerator 🤘🏼stoked to see what everyone thinks

    Holy moly that's a lot of spruce tips! Good on you for this experiment. Looking forward to how this comes out.

      5 friggin pounds lol. I was reading about some commercial examples that use about 3lbs/gallon. Stoked to see how it turns out

    Just found your channel today searching up the anvil (got one on the way for my b day) and you by far have one of the best production value of any brewing channel. Been watching all your videos. I've been brewing for awhile but would love you to explain more science behind some of the stuff as well. Really enjoying the content though man keep it up

    But where are all the results?? How does it taste?

      Thanks! Check out my newest videos - I heard the suggestions and I'm trying to make mostly grain to glass style videos now

    I was LMAO when i saw how much spruce tips you put in, thinking, that may really clog up the system. Looks awesome. Super super curious how this one turns out. You should do a tasting video sometime of all the great beers you’ve made. You’ve been very creative so it will be fun to see what you think of the outcome.

    • @HopsANDgnarly
      @HopsANDgnarly  4 роки тому +1

      🤦🏼‍♂️so clogged! I didn’t get it on video because it was such a cluster but I ended up having to use my autosiphon. I definitely should have used the grain basket

    I hope there's a follow up to show how it came out, despite the added risk. My Foundry is coming Thursday finally, so all these videos are helpful to watch, and well made regardless of Foundry ownership.
    Out of curiosity, did you happen to prep your Foundry before first use? Did you passivate it at all?

    Did you treat the spruce tips any prior to adding? I know Dogfish Head freezes theirs to get better extraction.
    I made something similar a Rosemary DIPA this past spring. Added Rosemary to the mash, boil, and fermenter.

    • @HopsANDgnarly
      @HopsANDgnarly  4 роки тому +1

      That’s a great tip! I didn’t freeze the ones in the video but I did pick a few extra pounds and stuck them in the freezer. Stoked to see if I perceive a difference. Cheers!

    Could you have alternatively done a spruce infusion by boiling them off separately (basically making pine tea), simmer that down to a concentrated stock, and then add the liquid to your wort? I feel like it could be more efficient in time and energy to have processed the spruce separately than in the Foundry.

    • @HopsANDgnarly
      @HopsANDgnarly  3 роки тому +1

      Yea that’s not a bad idea, especially with this much spruce!

    Love the videos! Quick (and random) question...what brand is the utility cart you use? I've got the Foundry coming next month and the cart looks to work perfectly. Thanks and keep up the great content!

      Thanks man! Its made by Husky and you can find it at Home Depot for a couple hundred bucks. I have to use a step ladder to yank the grains but it works great for me. Cheers!

      @@HopsANDgnarly nice! Btw what hose do you recommend for transfer from the gigawort to the fermenter carboy? 3/8"? Or 1/2"??

      Sorry I have a crap load of questions (just getting into brewing myself!), are you actually able to brew 5 gallon brews with the anvil kettle? Don't grains and all that consume a ton of the water? I never really see you add water at the end prior to transporting to the fermenter...

    • @HopsANDgnarly

      Hey, no worries! I use 1/2” silicone tubing and quick disconnects for everything while brewing. It’s gonna depend on the type of fittings you have. When I’m using an auto siphon it’s 5/16. I brew 3 gallon batches most of the time and use 2.5 gallon kegs. If you’re putting your first setup together think about how much of each batch you want to drink and how often you want to brew. If you want more variety maybe go with smaller batches. The 6.5 gallon Anvil wouldn’t be a good option for 5 gallon batches - but the 10.5 would be perfect. Cheers!

    are you using a 10" or 14" hop filter/ spider? I have the Foundry 6.5 and it seems to me that a 14" basket may end up resting on the bottom, but a 10" doesn't seem long enough to sit very far into the wort?

    • @HopsANDgnarly
      @HopsANDgnarly  Рік тому +1

      You should really only need one if you’re using a plate chiller - otherwise I’d skip it. Mine is just over 10”
