    This presentation will review some basic findings from decades of research into the effectiveness of extensive reading. This body of research highlights some main areas still unexplored which still need investigating. Some suggested research designs will be put forward, and suggestions made to ensure robust designs. Some of the major pitfalls in ER research will also be explained. We will close with a call for research in extensive listening, followed by the SIG AGM.

    Be good for the two of them to speak with Matt vs Japan. As he learn Japanese via extensive reading.
    Sure he is one guy but it will show that it could work with language outside of English.

    interesting now is using AI prompts to guide reading of online material. With these new AIs coming up, BERT, GPT3, use of correct prompts can guide learners to leveled material. For instance, asking google a question "How many people do x" can guide you to a very specific answer. You cans also use the prompt "explain it to me like I'm a second grader" or "high schooler" to try and find more leveled explanation.
