    If the carbs and timing are spot on you'll get 0-60 in 13 secs and a top speed of just under 100mph. That car had overdrive which you didn't mention. A well sorted MGB will easily keep up with modern traffic on our congested roads and of course no road tax or ULEZ to pay!

    We could learn so much from this car, todays cars require a degree a quantum physics to fathom out the heating, ventilation, sat nav, speed control, cruise control, radio etc, etc. I loved my BGT, had it for 5 years , my everyday car, drive it all over France, an used it for my work as a community nurse. Never missed a beat, the most reliable car I’ve ever owned, and it was 22 when I bought it.

    The choke actually 'chokes' (or restricts) the airflow through the carburettor. This makes the the air/fuel mixture richer while the engine warms up.

    • @cars-by-Q
      @cars-by-Q 2 роки тому +5

      On some carburettors, yes you’re right. But not on the SU carbs fitted to an MGB the ‘choke’ raises the idle speed of the engine and half way through its travel it also begins to move the main jet, richening the mixture

    • @redbarchetta8782

      Not on SUs. It pulls the jet down to richen the fuel mixture. No restriction like on a Weber etc.

      @@SpacedOdyssey incorrect, the choke on an SU carb operates a cam which initially makes contact with the throttle linkage to raise idle speed and then begins to lower the jet hight (increasing mixture) about half way through its travel. I love the MGB. I had one in red about 30 years ago. I think every new driver should have a drive in something like this. It really makes you respect the car and work for any reward you might get from driving it. The seatbelt is the only safety feature and no driver aids......proper old school driving. Nice to have in the garage for a weekend blast, you can ring its neck and have maximum fun without breaking any laws!

    • @patrickroohan7633
      @patrickroohan7633 2 роки тому +2

      "The seatbelt is the only safety feature.." Do you have any concept of how safety features reached the stage they are at today. What do you call disc brakes and rack and pinion steering? From the B's early days they were crash tested with the best equipment available at the time. You do realise that B/L had one of the biggest crash testing programs in the world in the late 60's/ early 70's.. We only got to where we are because of the work back then. M.G. engineers developed air bags in the early 70's, rejected by B/L bosses.

    When you're in 4th gear, try flicking that big switch on the far right of the dash - it activates an overdrive unit which drops your revs down for cruising, basically giving you a 5th gear ratio :) No idea why they didn't just give it a proper 5 speed box but there you go!

      There were no 5-speed RWD 'boxes made anywhere in the UK auto industry at the time. Unless I'm mistaken the first one was the the Rover LT77. My BGT here in the states is running a Nissan 5-speed. In this country, much easier to find (not to mention much lighter) than the rover 'box.

    Had a couple of these. Rule of thumb is if you can see any rust on the outside there's about 3 x worse rust that's hidden. These were made in 3 sections then welded together. They rust everywhere but the worst areas are were they were joined together and in the sill area's.

    I own two MG's. I would guess that the car is really bouncy because the shocks are empty of oil. Your riding on the springs. You have to manually add oil to each shock. Once you get the shocks squared away and go with a bigger anti-sway in the front they handle really good in the turns. Not sure why the steering is so hard. Usually these cars have pretty light steering even though they are manual.

If the thermistor was giving a low reading to the ecu dueto the coolant not being warm enough even 'at temp' the little stepper motor would never fully shut off the fuel enrichment valve. Quarter Lights !!, The little opening windows on the front doors, Great for keeping the interior glass demisted and also If you smoke, the smoke is sucked right out of the car

      Quite diverse power plants! From modern Japanese 3 pot turbos to rotaries to LS1s.
      One guy has one of these (or is it a Midget? I can't remember!) That's got a tuned Rover k 1.8... running modded SU twin carbs!

    It said Osselli on the cam cover this could mean a special cam, there was also the rebuild book in the car this will help sell it

    My MGB is a 1969 roadster, just fitted led lights, other than that all standard except for a 321 disi. Best with standard tyres, lots of addons over the years. Years ago nobody ever bothered putting seatbelts on, the 1/4 lights were for flicking the ash of you ciggie, you should have been smoking a cigar or even better a pipe, bet the seats have sagged just need a new rubber diaphram. See the B has an osseli engine should go well. Dont forget the grease gun. Oh and I think rubber bumper MGBs look the bis with minilites.

    Back in those days, People used their brains to pull out the seat belt, or alter the fan speed, The choke is make the fuel/air mixture richer for cold starting.
    These days there are So many Thickos that need to car to think for them !

    I have never seen a GT with a fold back sun roof. Is this custom installed or something that was just for England/Europe?

    When you pull the choke out it put more fuel in not more air & the little endow some called it the quarter window

    How is the new-style plate much more logical ?
    Granted, plate 01-09 are fairly straightforward to understand the years but unless you know the rules, you wouldn't know what year a 26 plate is, would you ?

    If the engine is Osselli, that might make it more desirable. Look up that tuning company.

    😂😂 I've got a 1984 Alfasud Ti, and if I forget to put the seatbelt on, I have to stop. Coax it out of the reel. Then put it on. Absolutely loved this, but I hate nothing more than MGs and there are so many of them. Scrap it and sell the number plate 😂

I have been trying to trace where that car is today to see if its still on the road ..Id love to find it and buy it from the current owner or at least have a sit in it again after all these year and give my dad a surprice..I know teh reg ws XDJ 125M so im going to do some huntng.. I loved all the details you showed on the car and laughed my head off at you trying to fit in it ha ha ha My dad is a much smaller build than you so he didnt have that struggle 😂Thanks a lot for putting this video together 🚗🤗Sonique

    Had one for many years, great little cars, lack some creature comforts, but there are some upgrades to be had.. and can add some accessories.
    I have no problem getting in the car and I'm about 30 years older.. 🙄

    I thought the choke made less air go in,choking off the air to make a richer mixture to start the engine.Funny stuff remember well the choke and wind up windows and don’t miss it 😂
