    The Backcountry between chair 8 and Pan Dome is the best riding in the area for sure. So easy to access too. Crystal's backcountry is even better and heavier in my opinion. I smell dual citizenship lol!

Well, i live in New Zealand and it’s far to be able to go to the mountains again, but I really appreciate how to prepare my board (how apply wax etc) when time comes.

    Love your videos. I was at Baker around the same time! I struggle riding when it’s overcast and foggy because of the lack of visibility. Any tips?

    • @wyldcanuck
      @wyldcanuck 2 роки тому +2

      Everyone struggles in those conditions. Make sure you have a good low light lens for your goggles. But most importantly, the better you know the resort, the better you’ll know your way around on low visibility days. Nothing else you can really do.

    • @AlanLamb11
      @AlanLamb11 2 роки тому +3

      Low light lenses, good anti-fog, take your time.
      I skied off a 50 foot cliff in fog at a resort I knew. Was just off the chute I thought I was at by 30 feet and what I thought was a landmark cliff was a bank of trees. Luckily it was POW almost as deep as this stuff at Baker but when you are airborne and can't see the bottom the surge of adrenaline is pretty intense.

    • @dreadiedude
      @dreadiedude 2 роки тому +1

      Generally there's abit more definition near the trees on foggy days, so hanging out next to or in the trees can help when you can't see the snow elsewhere.

    Great scenes. For some reason your 360 camera was causing a line distortion across the center of the frame. Are you using the One X2 or an earlier version?

    • @MinamiX3
      @MinamiX3 2 роки тому +1

      Nah that's kinda normal on a 360, stitching errors. The "center" of the frame would be the side of the camera where software magic stitches two of the videos together from two different cameras lenses on the 360.

    Surprised to see the few comments which are negative towards Mt Baker. I’m an Aussie and lived in Washington for a few years back around 2017 and it was my local mountain, and also where I first got on a snowboard (with the help of Kevin’s basic how-to videos!) This video was so nostalgic for me and took me back to such awesome memories of powder days at Baker. Maybe if you visit with high expectations you’ll be disappointed by things such as the car park etc… but the terrain is awesome and there’s so much variety. Great video Kevin 😊

  • @Outlawed1
    @Outlawed1 2 роки тому +19

    Baker is notorious for lots of rain and long lift lines. No cell service and the wet heavy snow is always bogging your riding down and fogging goggles is a consistent thing. It’s not a good place to vacation and or take a trip to. Locals there are hardcore. Dudes wear trash bags and people are used to the rain so there’s a lot of people parked in their cars (waiting the rain out) which usually ends up with a full parking lot and no room for parking. It’s so far away from anything (hotels, restaurant and resort type accommodations) further south Stevens Pass and Snoqualamie pass have it all and rail and terrain parks. Head to those resorts and ride better snow. Baker is a bust 9 out of 10 times. Not worth the trip.

    why dont you use the safety bar? just to look like a badass????

    • @Negentropy369
      @Negentropy369 Рік тому

      Most people don't. Maybe it's different where you live but in my experience in the U.S. I'd say maybe 35% of people use the safety bar. That's probably a high estimate. Personally it often feels like more of a hazard than a safety feature because you have to rely on everyone being attentive. I've had my arm crushed and head hit multiple times by people pulling it down without any warning or communication of any kind, and also people who weren't ready to put it up at the end. I don't feel any risk of falling with it up, even when the chair stops suddenly. Not to mention some of them don't work well with snowboards, especially a full chair of them, and even more so if there's a mix of goofy and regular riders. So yeah, your reductive and judgemental "just to look like a badass" is pretty short sighted, there are many legitimate reasons people dont use it.

    • @MumsTx
      @MumsTx Рік тому

      @@Negentropy369 🤣🤣🤣 that's make my day... you really belive in what you saying?
      The risk of falling 20m or 30m is better than a hit in the head (that should be protect with the helmet)?
      I'm in Portugal, and one of the places i ride is in Andorra, maybe one of the biggest places in the world, and the people maybe knows how to comunnicate better, and everybody uses the safety bar... 🤣🤣🤣
      "There are many legitimate reasons people dont use it." 🤣🤣🤣 comme on
