  • State-of-the-art home video production tools, circa 1984! Presenting the Archer Video Color Processor and Video Enhancer/Stabilizer, from Radio Shack. They also made a matching audio enhancer, which I'm looking for, to complete the set. Very nice and useful pieces of equipment for old-school analog video!

I worked for RS in1985 and remember these units. I always thought the stabilizer to be an unnecessary extravagance because a quarter of the VCRs produced at the time had stabilizers included in them. Now I would love to have one when it comes to backing up my old macrovision protected tapes that are not going to be re-released to DVD. Radio Shack was so geek before it was cool to be so. I miss the the old RS.

Excellent video, Sir. Thank you for showing people how great analog video was. I definitely agree with your comment about how nice it is to still have some of that old analog equipment around. I've been an electronic repair tech. for over 40 years & have repaired both analog & digital audio/video equipment. Analog will always be so much more reliable than digital. I don't know if they're still trying to work the bugs out of digital technology & equipment or not, but I can not see how it could ever be as reliable as analog was & still is. Thanks again for this video.

The catalog says it "eliminates vertical 'roll and jitter' from prerecorded video cassettes"... hint hint wink wink.

I had both of these units! I sued them to create copies of VHS tapes all the time back in the '80s. I also had the audio processor. Loved them!

Nice demo. I just scanned in the UM's for the Tandy's 15-1263, 15-1275 & 15-1277. Inherited these units along with a Vidicraft SEG-200, SIMA ColorWriter along with some other misc processing units. The guy did weddings and such. Cool old school tech. Thanks for sharing.

This is an absolute banger of a video, and I do not understand why but it makes my brain feel nice when I watch it

Cool video. I just bought the video processor yesterday. I also got mine from a thrift store. The original owner's manual was still with it. I guess the one I bought is the 85 model according to the date on the manual. The model I have is cat.# 15-1272. Unlike yours mine has round adjustment knobs that taper to elongated. Awesome stuff. Thanks for the demo.

I'm just popping in to say sir you did these processors a great Justice by creating this video I'm also glad to read that you were able to find the audio processor I would love to see more videos on analog video processors if you have the time and the interest that part of the culture isn't very well documented I'm currently on my journey of analog video synthesis and you have given me great inspiration so thank you for that I have a few Nifty items that I can't wait to make a video for I feel like a Discord would be awesome for all of us to hang out in and talk about old gear share insight

@s1nap For this video I used the composite video output of an Aiptek A-HD+ camcorder and a small, cheap "Noteworthy" video camera.

It actually made the 2nd camera look quite nice, I use MiniDV mostly though, so analogue editing would be of little use.

I used to have all three of those units. Sold them on eBay a long time ago. Now I just acquired a later version of the processor model # 15-1272. I really have no use for it, so I'll put it on eBay for $5.

How much delay do these introduce to the signal?
