Russian jamming technology has certainly played a role in reducing the effectiveness of, and interfering with the weapons guidance of munitions such as HIMAR and JADAMs, these jammers were first put to great use in Syria disrupting US and Israel aircraft navigation, and in Iran to take down a state of the art Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel stealth drone, which was captured by the Iranians, and was probably also evaluated by the Russians and Chinese.
@@John-hu9qg HIMARS aren't - and they are used to take out russian EW-equipment pretty effectively. And now someone has just to ask: What is easier and faster to produce: JDAM's (or rather JDAM-kits for existing normal bombs) and HIMARS or EW-equipment. The answer is pretty obvious.
Except Russians use their own GNSS called GLONASS for targeting. Which have higher resistance to an interference just because they use FDMA instead of CDMA.
Russia has always been an radio electronics juggernaut! They have people working in the field of radio electronics. With Russia's abilities they can easily jam USA smart bombs that depend on GPS and Satellite communications and therefore make they null and void! @zankou5611 I think the A10 would be an asset to Ukraine. Considering most Russian/Soviet helos are half as fast and fly sorties every day. The sky's are very contested on both sides, some would be lost without a doubt. But the A10 is a flying tank with very rugged landing gear. In my opinion, the A10 in the hands of a crafty well trained Ukrainian pilot would prove to be a menace to Russian ground forces. We need to start transferring some of this hardware to Ukraine, Apaches BlackHawks Little Birds A10s F16s, let's get them trained and get them in the field. The leaks have at least served to make public this very alarming breakthrough on the part of the Russians. It is very frustrating to learn that Ukrainian pilots are risking their lives launching these supposedly smart bombs, and that roughly half of them are missing their targets. This may be the reason why the US is reluctant to send modern fighter jets to Ukraine, but on the other hand, it is a good reason to send them, as these planes are capable of delivering bombs of the Paveway family, which are guided by a laser, not by GPS.
Even if only half of these make it to target, these are bombs with relatively cheap upgrade packages attached. Russia isn't able to drop these bombs, they have to use much more expensive missiles. My point is, it is absolutely worth the risk to the pilots in the standoffish way they would be dropping them. A 50% success rate from 30+ miles is a lot more effective than not having the kits and much more accurate than anything russia has in the price range.
@@franksmith4730 Russia does have the Drel system (kinda a Wish version of the JDAM), which Ukraine has said they are using at a fair clip (~20 a day) and about which Ukraine has raised particular alarm. They're not JDAMs, but they're still enough to be dangerous. How many Russia has, and how many of those are operational, and what the actual success rates are, are all open questions. Can't recall if it's the JDAMs or the JDAM-ERs, but I think the range I saw given was more around 80 km (30 miles is more like 48 km). Of course, that's gonna depend a lot on altitude. It's a very good point, though, that even if half are jammed (and I'd be interested to know what the Pentagon is classifying as a "miss" here, as the JDAMs tend to be put on the big 2 000# munitions. Obviously they're not being as effective as was hoped, but there's still a lot of potential for damage with an explosion that big anywhere near you), we're still talking about bombs that were otherwise unusable for Ukraine, as Russian AA measures kept Ukrainian air assets too far back from the front to make use of them.

With Russia's abilities they can easily jam USA smart bombs that depend on GPS and Satellite communications and therefore make they null and void! I'm ALL for Warthog planes in Ukraine 🇺🇦
This thing needs to start moving, we are running out of time.

Sad face, right?
@@franksmith4730 Good point. But Russia's ability to jam GPS is a serious challenge in many other ways. The US relies too much on this system, which has proven to be vulnerable without having to shoot down the satellites.
