I have a female Chilean Rose tarantula which I got in 2011. I named her Teresa but she is quite moody and loves to kick hairs. Apart from that she spends most of her time hiding. My first Chilean Rose was a male which I named Philip and I got him around 2008 but he sadly passed away in April 2013. That might be a long life for a male Chilean Rose. I bought another male Chilean Rose tarantula but unfortunately he passed away 14 months after purchasing him.
The interesting thing was Philip could sense a violent thunderstorm a few hours before it arrived. He would go crazy in the tank. I am not sure if it’s the humidity that’s around that triggers the spider or if it’s some sort of sixth sense they have like cats and dogs do that can detect static in the atmosphere.
The young spider that passed away after 14 months was named Tommy Balls which I named after a famous shoe shop called Tommy Balls located in Blackburn in the UK. The building is now a pet shop that sells spiders, snakes, hamsters and fish. Tommy the spider along with Teresa don’t seem to be bothered when a thunder storm approaches.
Male Chilean Rose spiders can be more fun to watch as they are more lively but don’t live very long. They are also more colourful to look at than the females.
My female Tarantula was tapping on the side of the tank earlier this year which was a bit freaky. Perhaps someone could tell why this happend.
The are a very gorgeous spider especially right after a molt. They look rose gold in color imo. One of my favs. Tyfs God bless you
Thanks so much!
