  • The flood plains of the Grande Ronde River fill up forming a temporary lake in Eastern Oregon. In this sequence at the north end of the valley, dikes and pumps are visible which are used by farmers to control crop flooding and damage. Many embankments have been breached which is common every few years since this river is uncontrolled by dams upstream and subject to fast snow run-off. Some fresh snow in the mountains indicates freezing at higher elevations, slowing the melt from the previous days.
