There is some umpires that enjoy high school and younger leagues. They also serve a valuable roll.
16 year old ump here. Been umping for 3 years, absolutely love it. Love the intricacies of the game, the techniques, field mechanics and field presence that umps possess. Try to embody that everyday when I go out on the field. Hoops to be here 1 day!

Good for you kid. You CAN make a decent living doing this. You inspire me to encourage my students (middle school) to pursue officiating. Ignore all haters and do what you do.

Great documentary, I liked seeing Jeff Nelson in there, one of the best in baseball. I'm an aspiring umpire so it's nice to see what the challenges ahead are.
Thankfully nowadays instead of boasting about what you have done you should be boasting about your correct call percentage or correct pitch percentage I care more about the raw ability to umpire rather than where you have been or what games you called cuz for all I know u just got those due to kissing butt or a good friend in a high place. Thankfully the entire MLB has gone to a more raw data and raw ability to umpire as we actually keep track of each umpires actual track record and career %

My buddy went to Umpire and got a job right away in Az, extended spring, omfg it was 121° in peoria ans suprise. Im like this is your reward? seems like a punishment to me. His roommate is now in MLB. Its s tough road, but if you dont get a job, you have D1-2-3,NAIA, ect.
I thought this was an academy sanctioned by the MLB. So its just a private organization.
You can tell that the guy who started this academy has zero personality.
I don't hate the umpires but it's now time to replace these objects on the field with a computerized robotic ai machine so we can avoid bad calls that affect the outcome of the game.
