Darmstadt was bombed 34 times. Only about 30% of the old buildings survived the war (many of them are just external facades), the rest are typical, rather ugly post-war buildings and some "modern" structures from recent years (but nothing special, you can find such everywhere). Unfortunately, the old, unique historical beauty and charm has been lost forever. This city no longer has its unique character. And few would like to rebuild, even part of what was lost. For many "new Germans" it does not matter, because it is not their history.
