I'm definitely burned out on codenames, but have enjoyed Decrypto the couple times I've had a chance to play it. This looks like it would be a lot of fun, will definitely check it out. Thanks for bringing this into the light!
Codenames: Duet is one of my all time favourite games (most of my games are at 2 player), it’s never got old… I admit it does have some downtime issues but that version does fix some aspects in that you have something to think about while it’s the other player’s turn. However agree Codenames isn’t great as a party game- so I’m gonna check this out :)
"Who plays Codenames with less than 6 players?" - I did... NEVER AGAIN! I played at 4 players and wow that experience was the opposite of fun as the table was basically silent for the whole game!
Many thanks for the review. Been on my shelf of shame for a couple of years. As my wife a language teacher will try and sort out a group to play it asap
It seems really interesting, but what's the incentive for the humans to chat together? If we're all competing, then anything I say will only help my opponents...
It's more for banter, but sometimes it's in your interest to try and reach a conclusion with another player if you've already figured out other aspects.
I love, love, love Codenames... I have somehow not burned out on it all this time. One of the games I rated a perfect 10 on BGG. My group still plays it multiple times weekly like lunatics. lol I have 501 plays logged on BGG. Yeah... I guess I like the game. ;-) lol I see only two other people with more plays logged than me there. heh Anyway, this looks quite fun... and yeah, also different than Codenames. I'd love to try it. :-)
Never heard of it 😳 But seems like an awesome alternative to codenames which I hated wholeheartedly 😅 Like you said, Codenames did NOT feel like a party game at all plus it took forever for the active player to come up with a clue word.

Hope you enjoy it! And yeah Decrypto was OK but tricky to teach people.
yeah, Decrypto is awesome. I personally find it way more fun than codenames, which i never really got into.

Yeah, ugh! :P
I play it usually with 2 and Duet is the best version for me :)
I mean solid isn't an antonym for liquid unless the game only has those 2 available as options, you have gaseous and plasma states of matter as well.
Gas isn't an option. 😁

Good stuff! Definitely give a shot then, certainly you won't dislike it.
Theme is really nice! Seems like a good choice for higher player counts.
I love Codenames and my group has played it to death. So, based solely on this review, I've put my faith in you and just ordered First Contact.
He he I hope its not misplaced 😅
It was not misplaced. I just played a 2 player game tonight with my son and really enjoyed it. Thanks.

Yeah this doesn't have that problem!
Looks interesting. Shame the components look like cheap prototypes.
It's a cheap party game, not an overproduced kickstarter. The components do fine.
