This is probably one of the best reviews for any product in any field on UA-cam, genuinely well done! And I love your accent dude! Very very good. I’m buying one of these because you have covered it so well. I was wondering about build quality but you have demonstrated it beautifully. Thank you.

That's exactly why we love our controllers! The small size of it really makes it versatile. On this production room we have it paired with a CC121 so when it's on our master keyboard we still have the transport for our engineer. Both are small and work together brilliantly.

As a follow up question, is there a quicker way to switch 'Modes' without turning the Unit Off then On again ang choosing the mode? Would be great to easily switch between DAW control (faders, transport, navigation) and then switch to the User defined mapping. And how many User Modes can be created? Once again, thank you very much.

Hi Doctor Mix, your video sheds a whole new light on the use of these faders! Now I am torn. I prefer the layout and functionality of the iCon Nano (has only 1 fader), so here are my questions:
1 - Are Platform Nano and M+ exactly the same (except the missing faders on the Nano)? Info on this is rather confusing.
2 - Could the Nano be hooked up with the extension unit (Platform X)? That way I would have best of both worlds.
3 - The touch sensitive faders will speed up workflow (I presume), because when you touch a fader, that particular track is immediately and automatically selected. Is that correct? This would make the M+ faster than the Nano, right? How would that work on the Nano?

Hi! I have a question about this thing - can you switch between User Mode and Mackie Control/HUI mode without rebooting the controller? I would love to use this sometimes as a motorised control surface for my mixer (in Cubase) and then fluently go into MIDI mode, to send CCs to VSTis.
If I had to reboot everytime, that would be a dealbreaker for me... The only solution would be to assing some of the faders in User Mode to eg currently selected channel's volume.
But then - will the fader follow changes in the mixer, or stay still? If latter - that would be so much for "motorised" :)
    Cheers!

Can't find the difference between this and the previous one though (Platform M)
    1) do you know what the difference are?
    2) do you know if in ableton everything works as it should? I know it can behave as a mackie control, but there are mixed informations as it works perfectly or not

    • @Doctormix
      @Doctormix  7 років тому +1

Hey Simone thanks! We haven't tried the Platform M but the difference seems to be that the "+" seems to allow multiple units to be daisy chained with each other. Check the back for the connections and you will see the differences ;) We haven't tried this with Ableton yet as in our main production room we use Cubase, but we do use Ableton so we can try it out :) Don't see why it would have problems as Mackie Control works fine with Cubase.

I think Platform M didn't come with a mapping software as you described here for M+. I hope I'm wrong, but if ever hopefully an update for the M is due. Daisy chaining is cool, but what if one just needs the 8 plus master fader? I'm really hoping for a tighter integration with other DAWs, Ableton Live, Adobe Audition, Presonus Studio One. Hardware improvements are welcome, hopefully Icon delivers on the software end.

@@magicmulder Ok, but ... this video is from two years ago. I have seen other videos where recently many users complain that they cannot do this, especially with Cubase, despite doing the procedure correctly. Apparently the problem is due to recent firmware updates, which cause problems. I wanted to buy Platform Nano, but I know that the Nano's fader cannot be mapped. I have asked iCon technical support, but they seem to have serious problems of understanding (and perhaps also of competence). The first time they gave an answer that had nothing to do with my question. Then they replied "It is not possible to use user mode with a Mackie Control DAW without issues. Please use the Mackie Control mode and MIDI learn the controls you like to use". So I replied that if I can't map the Platform Nano fader it's useless for me to buy it, so I have to buy M +. Their response was "Please avoid Platform as it is not possible to remap the faders with different CC values in Cubase". I then replied again "Which Platform? Nano? M +? Both? Because I've seen videos on UA-cam where M + faders can be remapped in Cubase. So if it can't be done with Platform Nano, then I might buy Platform M + ". And they never answered me again. They seem really unable to give a clear and exhaustive answer .... if this is their technical support, I think it is better that I think of the Behringer X-Touch Compact.

    • @CorradoLoffredi
      @CorradoLoffredi 4 роки тому +2

@@magicmulder answer by the icon's technical support: "As said the Platform Series (all) does not support mapping CC data to Faders and working with Mackie Control DAW´s. I would advise to not get a Platform if you like to do what you have described as the firmware is not capable of doing this right". And this, even if the operation manual of Platform and iMap software (and videos in the icon official channel) says that is possible. So it's no more possible. This is not fair by Icon. I will avoid every icon's product.

Hello Claudio!! Cubase user here! I want to buy a controller with motorized fader(s), cause i really want to make my life easier! So i can’t deside which one to buy, between cc121 and icon platform m+! I’m thinking about icon cause i’ll be able to use many faders at the same time, and for it’s many buttons, while for eq’s i’ll use my mpd218’s knobs! On the other hand, i’m not really sure but i believe that, cc121 will be more acurate in volume and eq’s, since its a dedicated device! Or not? Also it has that really usefull a.i. knob, the bypass buttons etc! Any suggestions? By the way, your videos helped me a lot, so thank you for that! Thank you for your time and sorry for my poor english!

If I have 32 channels... Can I control all of them with the bank buttons?

if I use it on user-defined mode to control CCs, will it still work as motorized fader following the corresponding automation lanes? this is nice :)

I am afraid it won't do this. I know it would be extremely cool and we would want this feature as well, but I guess it's more of a midi limitation. When you record the CC messages, they get transmitted to the software instrument and not to the controller anymore. The bi-communication which also moves the motorized faders works only in DAW mode :)

good overview :). Does this work right out of the box with any VI? I haven't managed to do this in Digital Performer...

@Doctor Mix - Professional touring musician here, newbie in audio engineering/production (Cubase). I am trying to chose between the Steinberg CC121 and the Platform M+. I like both (also due to the portability for while I am on tour). I think the CC121 will help make Cubase easier for a beginner and that AI knob is brilliant, but I like the versatility (you demonstrated) and the faders of the Platform M+. Unfortunately I can not have both, so ... which one would you recommend (in 2020)? (I already own a Softube Console 1)

why not go for a Zoom Livetrak L8 or L12? if you are a touring musician, this could kill a few birds with one stone. can act as a live sound mixer with separate monitor mixes, can record your sets, and has a built-in audio interface and is class compliant. Since it's MIDI it'll act as a mixing control surface for your DAW.
I'm torn between one of these and the Presonus Faderport8. I'm just not sure about the repairability and maintenance of the motorized faders on any of these consumer targetted controllers. in the studios, we would have to dismantle parts of the entire mixing console to clean and oil the fader slides and motors quite regularly.

@@nickloss2377 Hi Nick, thanks for your suggestions. I have indeed looked into these Zoom devices. I have a small Zoom recorder and I think it is very good. You are right, it would fulfill several functions: audio interface, mixer and DAW midi controller, etc. It just seems that it is not really well, or optimally suited as a DAW controller, which is what I am looking for in order to speed up workflow, ease and precision. Also I found the built quality disappointing and "plasticky".
The Presonus Faderport8 is an interesting option, but it seems to have several compatibility issues with Cubase. Although the Faderport8 seems to be a good option, it is also a bit on the large side, and I like to travel light. Both the Platform M+ and CC121 are small enough to bring along.
I also just bought a Softube Console 1. I haven't installed it yet, but I am exited about going to get to work with it. It is a smart device! I recommend it (based on the numerous video's I watched about it).

Sadly one of the firmware updates has stopped the mixer and channel change functions from working in cubase.

@@fantomie7569 Everything works fine with version 2.05. The beta 2.09 was part of the problem. But the other problem was a lesser known function menu in Cubase. Had to switch from Mackie to Compatibility. All fine now.

    • @Doctormix

Hey Andrei, yes you can! Instead of the LCD screen the LEDs on the channels indicate which DAW you have selected. User Defined mode is LED 7 (channel 7 ) hope this helps ;)

I recently purchased Icon Qcon Pro G2 and it’s been working great.
I have one problem though and it would be great if someone could help me.
I’m using Cubase 11 / 12 Pro and I have its max fader volume set up at +12db, instead of +6db.
The problem is that when I physically push faders on my Qcon controller to max, they only go to +10db max in Cubase. It doesn’t seem to recognize my +12db preference.
If I set up Cubase max fader volume to +6db, it works fine with the controller.
My controller is set up as Mackie device, and every other function seem to be working correctly.
    How do I fix this?
    Thanks in advance
