サクソフォンの響きは水質であるように思える。
そして、その響きが生む旋律は中空の水の流れのように感じられる。
響きの水の流れは、生の源たる陽光を受けてひとときの命を得、半透明に揺らぐ水の影を幻想的に描き出す。
水の流れの半透明の影＝Water Shadowsは、魂を抱いて時空を流れゆく人間のようでもある。
この独奏曲は、「サクソフォン協奏曲〈魂の内なる存在〉」(1999)を母胎として生まれたものであり、その協奏曲と同様、世界的なサクソフォン奏者である須川展也氏に捧げられている。（西村 朗）

I feel that the timbre of the saxophone is aqueous and that the melody produced from the timbre flows like water in midair.
When a flow of the watery sound receives the light of the life origin, it gains momentary life and fantastically draws swaying translucent shadows of water. The water shadows seem like human beings who go through time and space carrying souls in their arms.
This piece for solo alto saxophone derives from my saxophone concerto, "Esse in Anima" (1999). Like the concerto, this work is also dedicated to the world-class saxophone player Nobuya Sugawa. (Akira Nishimura)
