I've only talked to Tom twice but he's one heck of a guy! I'd love to go visit him sometime before it's too late. He definitely is a treasure! Luke, when I first heard about you I wasn't a big fan. I wasn't a hater. After seeing several of your videos, I realized that you have a passion to learn and teach. And you have a romantic sense for the history of our hobby. I appreciate that and yes, I'm a fan. Thank you for making this video and so many more.
I from the Netherlands follow your journey and admire the work in that Roadtrips to all those legends from you and I feel what you are experiencing Great Documentary work Best wishes from the Netherlands ( is in Europe ) 😊
The desire is still out there. I hear kids on their bubble pack FRS radios asking if anyone is out there. Of course, nobody is out there. 50 years ago that request on channel 11 or 14 would get a response from a neighbor, and the curiosity about radio and electronics would be nurtured.
Hello Fellow Amphaulics, Friends, And Supporters Of The World Famous BBI: LUKE, this is one terrific & re-educational video sir. Man when Tom started rattling the names of old CB antenna companies that are no longer with us tears started rolling down my face + the older ( state of the art at that time) CB radios like Tram, Polytronics, Courier, Squire Sanders, Demco, Eico, etc. Luke I can't thank you enough for not only a trip down memory lane but what may possibly comming for the future. God Bless & my best to the family. TMP, Unit 22 from N.J.
I just got a 23 channel tram the other day. Probably hasn’t been powered up in 20 years but it works. Took it to Wolfmans and dwin gave it a tune up. Working great now
007, Frank, in NJ has been interviewing for 25 years now. Hopefully, the parties can join forces and produce an actual historical documentary, using all of the great content that is available. Let’s see what the CBers can do, professionally.
I had an antron 99 good antenna for the price easy to put up but I wasn't satisfied I bought a v-5000 ground plane and first thing I noticed soon as I turn my radio on the receive was 100 times better at least transmit is a hundred percent better I love your v5000, great antenna. Thanks.
Thank you Tom, Luke and everyone who took part in this amazing video. What a great walk through of the processes and ideas in our hobby. Realizing just how many of their parts as well antennas i have had/used over the last 30 years. From the V5/8 to the 103, 104 and Shooting Star. But what was even more awe inspiring was the Wilson line history. Considering i'm currently running a Wilson Laser 400 which was made in 1975 that i purchased NIB 5 years ago. Well, what was left of the box lol. And with hlp and ease of their website i converted some hardware and gamma to maco...and its still talking. I digress,,, Just wanted to say this is appreciated greatly... 500 in the yard
I have a v5/8 wave since 92 its been a solid antenna. I use it more then my a99 . I really dig this video. Man i wish Seattle still had radio shops to hang out and pick the brains of the ol timers. I used to go to abc comms in Seattle all the time that guy had all the odd and unusual equipment. And towers on the roof of the place before he moved across the street. Oh well fun times.
The funniest thing I realized while listening to that fella talk, it's like a majority of the people and businesses he mentioned, I've done business with as well. I've been to Russ's R&R communications more times than I can count. I bought my first radio there. I've dealt with Ken's Electronics in Michigan countless times as well. Whenever I needed an oddball crystal or something strange, Ken was the only guy who would have it. I've done quite a bit of business with Maco as well. I can't even tell you how many of their antennas I've bought, assembled, and tuned. I never would have realized just how close knit all these businesses would be, like they all know each other. That's soo weird! Thanks for sharing this video. It's really cool to get a behind the scenes look into all this stuff.
Great Guy, with a wealth of knowledge. Great show. Y'all were fighting over Tom, he gets a question from one of you and starts to answer but is interrupted by the other with yet another question.
Perk. KQ4RRO I had a 5/8 wave Wilson 11m on my roof in the 70s using 5 watts out and could talk to any body within two countys from me and I lived in river bottom. Loved that antenna. GOOD TIMES.
I’ve just watched this video and I must say that I’m truly moved by the commitment and professionalism by this guy, I would of loved to had a walk around that site as I’m a true antenna nut myself.
Just talked to Tom a bit ago on some info on my new VQ3 Beam ! Super nice guy ! I give him a 10 out of 10 on knowledge , and friendliness ! That's for being an honest Business man. And producing an awesome beam..
I know Tom pretty well also, he is one of the nicest people that you can met. When it comes to antennas and antenna parts he is the only one that I will buy from. He is proud of his business and damn well should be. Kay is a sweetheart and knows more about the antennas than a lot of guys out there today. Luke thank you fort doing this video. I just wish that I would have known that you was out this way, maybe I could have finally met you my friend
Tom is definitely one of a kind. . Only talked to him over the phone, but he will spend the time to help. Like you're his only customer that day. He helped me respec and modify my shooting star and sent me the parts to do it. It works amazingly! Keep it up BBI! Great video!!!!
Thanks Luke for the memories. I’m an old CBr from the 70s and all the names and companies really jogged my memory from days long gone. 73 from 567 Northern Minnesota.
Awesome video, I love it. Always have loved tom and MaCo, such a great human all around. Always willing to help out. Was a huge help when buying and setting up the set of stacked delta loops. You know where they be. Lmao

I actually like the idea that the final finish of the aluminium is down to the purchaser. Building a kit, your way, makes that antenna yours. I add polyphaser copper to each end and coldshrink the joint.👍
I built a vaccuum varable feed point. From BBIs video. Put them on a gizmochey 4 element with a backdoor kit. Works good. THANKS LUKE . CAPTAIN CRUNCH. CRUNCH for short Texas.

Missing the point guys. MACO/Charles is a production antenna company with dealers and distributors. They sell parts for CB niche guys that want to make custom antennas. It is a very small market, relatively speaking. MACO is a production antenna company, with business outside of CB too. Folks can order their own material and make their own custom antennas, as Tom stated here. None of this is new, same physics now.. that Dr Yagi worked with. No need to overthink it. K.I.S.S. Because of the nature of the market, there's so much misinformation, old wives tales, and outright puffery around CB radio than pretty much any other consumer appliance, with the possible exception of stereo gear.

I used to own a 5/8 wave maco antenna. It's still up after 27 years and works. Can't say the same as my a99.. the glue or epoxy on the top whip came off. I would kill to be able to climb up and put an antenna back up but I'm permanently retired. Not by choice.
Just spitballing but those 90’s look like you could use that for like some of these ham guys that run multiple bands and have 2 separate verticals or you need one to come off at 40-50ft and another that needs to be at 60 some feet, you could stick that between 2 sections and have a stand-off between 2 sections possibly or staggered antennas at the top of a tower, or the people who live out in BFE and they need to put a satellite dish up high or maybe a wireless broadband antenna they can throwing on that stand-off on their tower….just guessing/thinking out loud
