This song evokes a lot of emotion personally, much like the cars in the video. I grew up watching top gear and they certainly did an amazing job with presenting these cars and making them larger than life and I think they didn't really have to try. These cars just had so much soul in em, whatever it may be, a ferrari Enzo or a Plymouth cuda or a Toyota supra or a BMW m3 e46. Imo 2000-2010 was the most amazing decade for supercars. They had quite the distinctive characters, certain nuances. Built in a way where a lot of em truly felt alive and full of energy. Like this song imo. I feel like this is less with super cars of today. Don't take me wrong they are amazing and certainly not boring but I think something is lost when a lot of these super cars have all computer systems in em. Software that keeps interfering and is getting more complicated. The aliveness is diminished generally imo. Again, there are amazing cars built today still of course and some of em really do feel alive and breathing. I just think overall, cars have sped towards the death of their souls. Not entirely though. I think I'm referring to drivers cars. But yeah
First time I heard this song (the instrumental version at least) was in Top Gear - series 4 ep. 1 when they raced against the TGV to Monaco. Really fits the mood!
Don't forget it also played at the end of the RS4 vs. rock-climbers episode, when Jeremy races them back down the mountain for double or nothing and the climber just ends up jumping off the cliff and skydiving down. Was absolutely staggered the first time I saw that episode #Legendary
Speed me towards death is a marvelous production which puzzles us with the marriage of an instrumental which seems to narrate the hero's journey with lyrics which suggests the summoning of a quick death. This quick death which is beckoned represent the pyre in which the greatest high of life is attained. Not to die slowly, not to experience the limits and decline of human energy and potential but to throw oneself to the burning arms of death as one plunges oneself in cool seawater also capable of engulfing one in its vastness. Many things are hinted. Was it a full life or one full of recklessness? Was if a life in which adventure brought satisfaction or was one in which each high only lessened the pleasure felt. I'd die for some company. What a puzzling remark from one who seeks death? What is clear that with all sense dulled by the previous high or life's lack of meaning, only facing death in its purity, vastness, frightening irreversibility and awe inspiring portal to the nether-realm can blow sense or new life to those cells which call for life. And here come the paradox, the narrator wants to experience life in its fullest as death icy fingers cradles his soul slowly to eternal slumber but off course after having been ignited by fear, joy, terror, excitement, meaning... something. Now even more puzzling is the instrumental. While the lyrics by themselves could be seen as the cry of a defeatist being or the last laughter of an hedonist seeking his ultimate overdose, the instrumental is rousing, cinematic, full of drama. Featuring piercing strings(the whole introduction ), ethereal voices (3:06), super hero inspiring trumpets and brass, the instrumental which deserves its own set of comments suggest a journey... Maybe that's what it is. A rapid descent towards death but possibly not physical but the death of one's former self. In that sense, at 3:06 you have a sense of glory being attained as one faces death. Such as phoenix needing to burst in flame, just like a hero desirous to give sacrifice himself or herself in order to ensure the safety of loved one... This death must be the portal to one's higher self or simply the glorification of one's ultimate high. But as the author says: "That's not what I want to hear"
Love the analysis. I realized that Furious Angels is pretty much a concept album of a breakup gone bad, downward spiral eulogies of what he feels in each moment. Amazing stuff, and all covered in 1 album!
@mycroft791 Or maybe the fourth film of Matrix: Revival. xDDDDDDDD Regarding that this is the album belongs to Furious Angels, where three songs are for Matrix reloaded i.e: Clubbed to Death and Remix.
@liud128 Hmm, perhaps not a review. I know they used the beginning in the episode where Hammond raced May down a bobsled slope, vs. a modified Mitsubishi evo rally car.
@mycroft791 Okay people I know Dougan did the music for the Matrix series. What Ii was trying to say is with Craig's doesn't-give-a-crap-about-anything current incarnation of 007, this describes the "new" Bond pretty well..
Craig is the best Bond I think... other than Connery. Craig is the in your face, bloody fight to the death, gets hurt too Bond, where Brosnan was the gadget, fight 20 guys and comes out with perfect hair Bond. It just wasnt realistic. And this should be Skyfall's song for sure. I hope they learnt their lesson with that shit song from Quantum and got hate mail for it.
I'm not a fan of the show splitting back and forth every split second with a different view and angle of the car. Its simply too much. Sometimes, discretion and simplicity is classy, which is deserved for these cars. Just my opinion, the editing crew just lays it on way too thick.
ya no kidding. that shitty alicia keys and jack white song was horrible. this would have been a billion times better for quantum of solace. they should make this the next Bond song!
This guy should do a bond theme. His style and voice are well suited.
To Hammond, May, Jezza and the whole TG production team, we thank you for doing what we all wish we could do but cant.

this should be an opening to a bond movie

Recently went to the UK for the first time, and played this on the plane ride there... it gave me goosebumps
i did a similar going to the US for the first time last year, listened to Fortunate Son
This is some ideal song to crash at 350 km/h and die. . .
+Arsen Margarian Don´t give any ideas, man. Yeah, but before you touch the ground you explode violently like one of those movies actions XD
Are you stoned ? what are you talking about ?
Arsen Margarian rammstein!!!
First time ive ever listened to the non-instrumental version and its fantastic :D
Excellent. The RS4 episode of TG was my fav. And this music is epic. Great piece of work well done, I've watched it like twenty times!
"And 567 passionate Italian horsepowers are ROLLING 'round the engine bay!"
And his voice is just drowned out by the roar.

Gerard Beaubrun I enjoyed your analysis. Very much.

This video makes me unbelievably happy :')
This montage is awesome.

Absolutely brilliant video! Well done!
most beautifull video ever.....
Brilliant... just epic
What episode was this song in?
Season 4 Episode 1, the race to Monte Carlo where Jezza is in the DB9 :)
Spot on mate, well done.
Serving Suggestion: Goes best with Top Gear
Spectacular!!
this is awesome.
I fully realise this is going to generate lots of rather scornful replies, but wouldn't this song make a great James Bond film theme?
I love Top Gear!
1st thing that comes into mind whenever I hear this track... TOP GEAR FTFW. Top gear & Rob Dougen. Does it get any better? I think not
lol...i was just about to make this suggestion! This song definitely would make a great James Bond Song! 5*****
Love the Bentley doing the about face.
Love this soundtrack....and damn!....those TG Boys know how to 'sex up' a car video! Great cutting and editing wsamosedno.
@mycroft791 Or maybe the fourth film of Matrix: Revival. xDDDDDDDD Regarding that this is the album belongs to Furious Angels, where three songs are for Matrix reloaded i.e: Clubbed to Death and Remix.
faith on music: totally restored.
@liud128 Hmm, perhaps not a review. I know they used the beginning in the episode where Hammond raced May down a bobsled slope, vs. a modified Mitsubishi evo rally car.
Ok I see only one dislike. I'm wondering why they show some bad ass rides and some bad ass music? I'm confused??
good song
@strathpol They've also got some pretty epic music choice
top gear rocks
@strathpol And editing, music and presenters :)
@mycroft791

top gear
so, you've noticed too huh :D
measuring sound bitrate in p. thats something new
@mycroft791 It would indeed. Even the title would be awesome. Come on people! We want more 007! Ever since Quantum, we haven't had anything!
Never thought of it before but yes your right it would ! and judging by comments and thumbs up so does everyone else !
I offer mycroft791 a quantum of solace. I agree
How have they not gotten him to do one yet? The last couple weren't any where near as good as this.
Gran Turismo 6 trailer :D
Craig is the best Bond I think... other than Connery. @strathpol any other show ... IN THE WORLD !!!
@mycroft791 I'm with you on that
That is just pure pornography!
Song makes me want to work hard, earn millions of cash and buy a freaking Maserati
e.morricone a litel bit..(?)
next james bond theme song? YA!
ummm yes that would work too
Yeah, he did. So we give him credit. Pretty useless what you said.
ferrari???maserati???
I'm not a fan of the show splitting back and forth every split second with a different view and angle of the car. Its simply too much. Sometimes, discretion and simplicity is classy, which is deserved for these cars. Just my opinion, the editing crew just lays it on way too thick.
Speed me towards Candice Swanepoel. :)
Bravo
Всё бы хорошо, только бы какашку Mini вырезать!!!
Lol so um dat top gear UK doe...
Wow
would have been better than that crap by jack white and whoever he teamed up with. Great tune and ideal for bond!
I hate his voice, but at least his album had an instrumental disk. In any case, Top Gear (awesome)+Rob Dougan (awesome) = unbelievablivion.
ya no kidding. that shitty alicia keys and jack white song was horrible. this would have been a billion times better for quantum of solace. they should make this the next Bond song!
@strathpol No, I DO better.
hahuahauh LOL.. kidding
someone should tell Dougan he can't sing because this track only improves when the vocal stops
Jezza just jizza over this Vida! Lol
