Scotty being kind to Chrysler products for 10 minutes? Never thought I’d see this day coming.
There's a lot of nice things to say about Chrysler. Like their transmission. They have the most advanced transmissions on the planet. The engineers that designed them are from NASA after the space race shut down. In fact the Chryslers pulsating torque converter is one of a kind patent. It was so advance the torque converter would lock between gears making a 4 speed feel like a 6 speed transmission. Many other car manufacturers couldn't get it right, including GM and Ford their first time around. They had to buy the technology from Chrysler to integrate it in their brand. Now, I'm sure there's some people that had a bad experience with their transmissions but if you got a good Chrysler like my dad did in 2005. It lasted years, infact it's still running. Gave it to my brother-in-law. Still runs strong. Every once in a while I ask hows the T&C and he hasn't had any issues.
@@blackonblack...9244 The 45RFE and the 46RE would beg to differ. Those transmissions were 100,000 mile clocks. Shame since the engines they were paired with at the time were some absurdly reliable models.
@@skurblord3401 You should read up on Chrysler minivan transmissions they were the most advance of their time. Again GM had to buy the technology from them. Honda somewhat figured it out. By the way, you're not going to find another smoother transmission on the planet besides a Chrysler 1990-2006. Why do you think they were selling like hot cakes for years? I remember in Chicago I couldn't turn my head without seeing a brand new Dodge Caravan or Chrysler Town and Country on the road.
@@skurblord3401 Actually most of the Chrysler engines were actually reliable. The 3.6l was a lasting engine. If you follow the maintenance they would last a long time.
It's strange to listen to how Calmly Scotty talks about Fiat / Chrysler
these videos have a script, if he made this video how he actually felt it would be funny like his chrysler rant videos
Chevy: "we vow to be full electric by 2035"
Ford: "ECOBOOST, ECOBOOST, ECOBOOST!"
Chrysler: "I wonder if the hellcat engine will fit in the Grand Caravan?"
I would be lined up at the Dodge dealer with my money in my hand begging to get me a HellVan... I had that idea for a long time!!
The grand caravan is dead except in Canada which is the lower end trim of the chrysler pacifica. Chrysler grand caravan
I think all electric cars should stay in the golf course like the cards 🤣🤣
Thank you for this video. My grandfather retired from Chrysler in 1976 as a “tool and die” man. Every automobile I’ve ever purchased for myself has been a Dodge, Chrysler, or Ram. I know as well as anyone that Chrysler has had some issues over the years, but I still love the brand (especially the SRT and Ram lines. My Grandpa (and Grandma) always supported and encouraged me when I was growing up, and even though both have been gone for several years now, I still feel like he is smiling down at me and would have loved a ride in my 2019 Ram Limited.
So sorry to that you lost your grand parents, my dream car is a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack, thank you! 🙂❤ P.S. I'm sure your grand parents are so proud of you for supporting the work of your grand pa. Cheers to your parents for raising you well! 🙂 Keep safe and God bless you! Enjoy your sweet ride! Don't forget to install a car alarm for protection thank you!
@@DynamteKid316 Thank you for your kind words. A friend of mine who lives at Martha's Vineyard (yes the one that Presidents go to), just got himself a brand new Dodge Challenger Scat Pack widebody in the F-8 color. I was SO happy for him! When you have worked really hard for something and are FINALLY able to get it... there isn't much that compares. When he leaves work these days and has that vehicle waiting for him on the ride home... MAN! I could tell in his voice as he described it, he was smiling from ear to ear, and why not? He is a great guy! The kind of guy that everyone wants to be around. Good luck to you, and don't give up on that dream!
I'm taken aback, good ol Scotty doing a positive historical & educational video of Chrysler products. The world is changing
If you play the video backwards, you hear scotty saying "Endless money pit!" Over and over
@Organic Iverson yea..... Because everyone has the money on hand to go buy one.....and I doubt it'd be worth much more ,if more at all, by then
@Organic Iverson if I'm spending that much, I'm buying something that's already a classic, that will be worth more, that's not made with cheap metal and plastic
This is my favorite ol Scotty video! I love my Hemi and would love to stuff a Hellaphant in my paid off 15' RT and debadge it! That or buy a RedEye!
Thanks, Scotty. This is a real interesting and informative video.
Scotty, excellent background on the hemi, thanks. No arm waving - bonus!
I never knew Scotty would say any positive thing about the hemi
I think I remember him talking about how the hemi engines were better made than the regular chrysler fiat crap
@@4-TE, prolly something like that. The hemi is almost like a marketing tool. They make the hemi and it sells, weather it be the r/t or hellcat. The hellcat sells, and sells really well, so they have to make those good quality to create brand interest. Almost every car company has done that before, for example Chevy and the corvette, and Lexus and the lfa. Except dodge is the only one that makes unreliable regular cars.
Scotty has said many times that the Hemi is a GOOD Engine, but the problem with them is everything that's bolted onto it. The vehicles will fall apart and the electronics will kill it, but the actual mechanical parts of the engine is good lol.
Evening Scotty! 🏁Thanks for all the great content. Love the channel!
Scotty, Great video. Just learned you were a goalie in an earlier video. Explains a lot. Got to love hockey!!
Especially in Canada.
Scotty finally came around and has given the Chrysler, dodge, ram its hemi props
I still do my best to Dodge any dodge on the road 👀
But you could DODGE this Dodge crashing into your comments. Lmao😂
I try to dodge Ford. I keep finding them in the repo lane..... I guess that is what happens when you ignore your inspectors whenever they say that the transmissions are failing on the assembly lines
Scotty this was truly informative! Top Notch. I purchased my first Chrysler product in 2020 a Dodge Durango SRT with the 6.4l 392. Honestly it's been nothing short of remarkable. Thanks again!
This might just be my favorite video u have ever done scotty
I love my 392 six speed SRT Challenger. You can't beat the feeling of that HEMI H.P. 👍🇺🇸😉🏁
2016 Scat Pack automatic shifts great & didn’t have to pay for gas guzzler like you do with the manuals.
@@tedszweb5268 I'd think that you could get the same mpg, I cod be wrong though. Real drivers don't care about gas though and prefer a manual
Wish there was an option on the SRT Jeep for manual. The ZF 8 speed is no slouch tho. Thing bangs gears faster than I or anyone can shift manually. I rarely have the mds on since I don’t really trust it like that. 500 ponies with bald eagle tails baby!!!!
Wow !
Scotty a Mopar Guy, I never thought I’d see the day !😀
Well well well... That day finally arrived: Scotty had received that nice brown envelope from fca!!!
Hey Scotty! I admire your restraint from trashing, however rightly, the cylinder disabling technology. It was a good idea that just had some major flaws. Thanks for the history lesson!
when i was a kid my neighbor had a 1971 hemi cuda i loved going for rides in that car and looking at the shaker go back n forth as the driver was on and off the pedal that car is still my favorite car today
This was, yet another, wonderfully entertaining History lesson. Very well done. Thank you, Mr. Kilmer.
They must of had Scotty's Celica hostage for him to talk nice about Chrysler, ha
This isn’t April 1, right?
Scotty has always said Chrysler had powerful engines. The problem is they usually use inferior materials and cut corners everywhere else.
You're right about that. All the way up until Mercedes taught them how to build a car. Anything pre 98 was absolute garbage. You won't see them around anymore.
@@dannysdailys My 62 and 78 would beg to differ, rock solid, rust free and still going strong.
@@dannysdailys and Anthony Blair You are very wrong. Slant six? Torqueflite trans? At one time these were the best. All American manufacturers built some good cars at one time. Japan copied American technology. Yes things have gone downhill for American manufacturing. This is also true for Mercedes. According to Scotty a Mercedes is a money pit.
I’ve had 3 Dodge engines. The 3.6 Pentistar, 5.7 and 6.4 Hemis. The Pentistar is garbage and needed a complete rebuild at 120k miles due to failed needle bearings in the roller rocker arms. The Hemis however are strong as hell and never once had a problem.
I have always loved the looks of the 60's and 70's mopars, but always shied away from them due to poor handling and horrible brakes. Of course you could upgrade them, but I was a poor kid and couldn't afford much beyond the car itself.
Nice feature Scotty...My first car was my Dads 1965 Plymouth Belvedere..oui oui..lol. 273 V8...I loved that car! A indestructible Mopar!
I was a child of the 50's and the Hemi was the King. Thanks for the History lesson.
I love my 17' Ram with the Hemi. Had a Grand Cherokee with the Pentastar and had some major issues so dumped it for the Ram and have been very happy with it. We will see what the future holds but no issues so far. Love the power, I drive very conservatively, but when I really need the power, it's there.
These videos are great Scotty keep 'em coming 👍
Excellent Video - That's the most complete, concise, clearly explained, full history and development of an engine from its inception to current times I've EVER heard. AWESOME VIDEO.
My all time favorite car is the 1970 Charger Daytona. Love that huge rear wing and the 427 hemi
I had a 2006 jeep commander with the 5.7 it was an absolute beast lifted it 3.5 inches and it could still slam you back in the seat while accelerating from 75 to pass on the freeway. One of my favorite jeeps ive owned so far with that power and exhaust sound. My 3.6 wrangler feels like im riding a donkey around in comparison
“Hey! That thing got a hemi?”
“Yeah.”
“Oh you mean the truck I’m using to tow the Charger?”
“Well sorta but not really. They aren’t really hemispherical heads but they kept the name because it sounds good.”
@@SavageBunny1
The name “Hemi” comes from the shape of the combustion chamber. The pistons never were a true hemispherical shape. It’s called a Hemi Head not a hemi piston.
The combustion chamber of the Gen III Hemi is not truly hemispherical.
It does have better airflow and excellent combustion efficiency. It’s a well engineered engine. It’s just not a true hemispherical head engine. They kept the name because it sounds good and it’s famous. Just about everyone has heard of the Hemi, even people who aren’t into cars at all, even if they don’t know what it means.
My comment was not meant to be derogatory. I was just poking fun at a commercial.
If I was calling the shots I’d keep the name too.
It’s just like when Chevrolet kept the name Z28 as a package on the Camaro even though it wasn’t equipped the same as the original Z28 which was simply an order code for a certain option package. The first Z28 Camaros didn’t even have a badge that said Z28. In 1967 they were just marked RS for Rally Sport. Z28 sounds good so they kept it as a trim package.
My point is that names are important. People will buy something because they think the name is cool and “Hemi” is one cool sounding name.
I really did like this video Scotty, thank you, i'm Australian and you answered some questions i've had since I was a kid. I'm 54. Really Scotty, that was great, John.
I really liked this type of content Scotty! Very well done! I would love to see more videos like this from you.
I cant seem to understand the reason why 221 viewers would dislike this video ...its a free educational explanation, simplified with pictures and examples, at your finger tips. So what's to dislike ? Grow up already ... Thanks Scotty, love the channel, much appreciated.... God bless .
Talking about the 392 hemi, I remember the days of the '70's when a LOT of Top Fuel dragsters ran that engine.
I just sold my 1958 392 HEMI. The Guy's Check bounced. So much for trusting people. Still have a 1956 354 Hemi.
You do an amazing job on this type of videos with your narration. Thank you for doing them!
The '64 Plymouth you show with a "Hemi" actually has a 426 Wedge.
you got this man never leave us plz
Scotty is finally respecting the greatness of FIAT
You mean Chrylsler, since Chrysler had made these designs of engines before Fiat took over, so therefore it's a Chrysler thing, not a Fiat thing, Fiat did not design it and make it, prior to obtaining Chrysler.
Its finally great to hear Scotty say something positive about Chrysler / Dodge products.
The Royal Crowned Tiger i think he was joking 😂. Hemi engines are great. The only dodge id ever buy is a ram with a hemi or a cummings diesel. The rest of fca lineup is meh.
Fiat isn't great ...... chrysler isn't great.....all he was doing is stating facts about their company.....
I for one, thank you. I know your not a dodge fan, but My 02 ram 1500 slt 4.7 (eventually to be a 5.7, built as a 6.2) truly appreciate it.
If you play the audio in reverse it's "Endless money pit" over and over again.
hahahaha hidden message in the video, you need to watch it in 25hz 110v ac
Surprisingly impartial! Thanks, Scotty!
The 6.1 was in the older 2005 cars then it got changed to 6.4 later on in new vehicles! Love the video! I love Mopar! Glad to see you did a video on them!
@@jprajkumar not that’s the Hellelephant .. 6.1 was a engine option until they changed to 6.4
@@jprajkumar noo 😂😂 what could ever make you think that?! Jk I know what the Mopar engines are. The only crate engine made ( unless maybe you ordered a engine which I guess counts in a way 😂) is the hellelephant . It was only offered as a crate engine.
I recently bought a used 06 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi and an aftermarket K&N cold air intake. Even with single exhaust it sounds great when you get on it.
That Charger at the end is iconic.
Challenger. That was a challenger! Charger is 4 doors! Challenger is 2 door! Unless you talking about the 1969 Charger that was 2nd to last 🤣🤣😅😅
@@MelTheEnbyMunk - fun fact: when Chrysler made cars in Australia during the '60s and very late '70s or early '80s, their two-door was known as the Charger and the 4-door and wagon was known as the Valiant. Great cars too, but like the Aussie car manufacturing industry, long gone. I still have to stop and think whenever I see a Challenger on the road, coz I want to call it a Charger.

One of my Jeep tow cars had the hemi. When towing I almost forgot the trailer was even there. One problem - 13 mpg, with or without the trailer. Could pass anything except a gas station. It was a beast.
This is Scotty's first video where I don't feel like he's shaming me for owning a Ram.
Scotty got paid to do it there’s no way lol..:. But how’s the ram treating you? Cause that’s looking like my next purchase
One of your best videos yet. As many problems as they have im a diehard Chrysler fan. Yes I probably spend more money on repairs than some others but they have been good to me. I don’t beat on them and I keep them maintained and have never had major issues even with a couple of them over 250,000 miles
Back in the days when all car makers where making bangers
Scotty-I just found and watched your video you did on the John Arc show back in May 2020, good to see you are the same person as your videos...May you live long and prosper.....
lol (insert horse laugh picture) I bought a 2013 Chrysler 200 hit 100K engine blew, then went out and bought a 2019 Challenger...What did I learn? Fiat makes some of the best looking cars, im still looking at my 200 in the driveway since it cant move....
@Techrecycle4u Well I did it for a few reasons its the coolest AWD vehicle they make and I need something year round in PA, lol On a serious note I bought it with 4k miles on it and plan to keep the warranty going until the loan is paid then sell it before it goes down more in value...Sometimes you just have to enjoy life, I make very responsible decisions in other aspects of my life why not have fun in your car, haha the 3.6l engine has been in so many vehicles over so many years its been proven reliable if you use OEM oil and filters...Time will tell
Dodge at this time is running the muscle car era more than any other maker...Scotty makes understanding vehicle history just that much better..Thanks bud
Damn some of those cars are beautiful!!!!
Scott, how can 1 person possibly have so much knowledge and accuracy ??

Dodge ...and reliable....no. some, I'm sure are....a lot of ppl get lucky and have a decent one...but a lot of others..dont

The expensive hemi option took your warrenty away. No warrenty verses the 440 that got a 3 year 50,000 mile warranty and was almost as fast

Leaner fuel mixtures require a stronger 12 volt spark , hotter plug with a longer primary heat displacing electrode & a wider gap to allow for more presence of fuel between S-Plug terminals to initiate a complete combustion.
Thanks Boss
Absolutely loved this video. I am a big time Chrysler fan. I am pretty upset that Fiat owns it now and I wish Mercedes never sold them.
It should have never been sold to Daimler to begin with. Chrysler Corporation was a financially solid company and didn't need the Europeans.
@@bordercollieinachallenger3933 Fiat is a more reliable company than Mercedes. The only thing that was better about the Mercedes Chrysler vehicles was that you could say that you owned a Mercedes instead of a Fiat. After Fiat bought out Chrysler literally everything got better. The reliability got better. The build quality got better. The performance got better. The styling got better. The interiors got better. Literally EVERYTHING got better. The Ram 1500 is now ranked AHEAD of the Silverado 1500 and F-150 for reliability. That in itself is an amazing accomplishment for Chrysler and Mercedes could never be capable of doing it.
8:25- correction, it was a 6.1 Hemi with 425hp and a displacement of 370 cubic inches and they used that engine from 2005-2010. Then the 6.4 Hemi was released with an initial hp rating of 470 that was eventually bumped to 485. Now if we're talking heavy duty use thats entirely different set of specs. It was actually 370 Cu. In. But yes, that’s the first thing I noticed in this video. Showed a 6.1, with “6.1 SRT8” covers and still somehow calls it a 6.4😂😅
No I'm pretty sure it was available before 2010. The only thing was that you couldn't get it in a vehicle. It was a crate engine.
