I cannot emphasize enough how this video has improved my black and white to color images. I create coloring books and colorize them for the covers. This step is a TOTAL GAMECHANGER! The images after colorization are crap until using the steps outlined in this video. There is virtually NO noise or pixelation. I don't know how you figure these things out but I am forever grateful and appreciate all the time and effort you put into your videos.
Awesome! Incredibly helpful. I just cleaned out my parents attic and now have all their b&w pics. This includes their wedding album from 66 years ago. I’m looking forward to giving this a try.
I just took an old picture of my great aunts when they were children and colourized it.. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I will be looking at "fixing" the green people in the sun damaged pictures at our cottage when I go there in the summer!
I have always struggled with coloring black and white images. That's right, sometimes even the neural filters don't yield satisfactory results plus, all that amount of manual painting job was such a pain. Thanks a lot by sharing this trick. You Sir are indeed an expert in the photo editing and designing skill.
Just tested the AI colourising thing on a photo from my wedding, I have the original colour shot and a black and white version of it, the AI did a surprisingly good job - a solid 8/10. Things it missed were the colour of the stone walls in the background (by a lot), skin tones were over reddened and navy blues were shown as black or dark greys. It also seemed to have some issues with working out what was visible between legs - in my case it made the grass a deep red. It's very impressive none-the-less, it would just need some minor tweaking to make everything look right.
I always wanted to use some Ai colorizations as a palette and do it afterwords from scratch BUT this trick is absolutely awesome and will improve my workflow dramatically. You are simply the best PS magician on internet. RESPECT
The fact that it’s possible to color black and white photos from a while ago with decent accuracy is just incredible! Technology has advanced. If I could afford photoshop, I could totally see myself getting lost in just coloring photos for fun.
I just finished a project of hand-colouring about 75 black and white photos using an open-source application and every moment of it was a joy for me. I realize it's not for everyone, but I can't imagine using AI. Note that I didn't say "never." I'm not that dumb.
You know what, fun is fun. People do coloring books, it's a fun process to color things. If it is a money business and you need it all done super fast, then AI is a great thing too. I work in an office where I have to get photoshops done in minutes. I have little choice but use shortcuts.
He is using a tool and sometimes these tools can make your life easier and faster then doing it manually. So he is not dumb he is smart and up to date.
I can think of two features to make this much better. They should add a color picker option for parts of the image. I have a black and white photo of a scale model but I have the real world pantone values of the paint used when it was manufactured. It could apply the correct colorization that way. They should also allow you to upload an image that already has the coloring/style you want to apply so the AI can analyze it and give your photo the same look. I would buy a plugin or software that does this in a heartbeat.
Wow just wow, you're so inventive. I am impressed. Incredibly! You really try hard to make the video always different or to improve the technique. Thank you for your effort!
unmesh that's really good of you that you keeping us engage introducing these new amazing tools of AI via your tutorials . I really appreciate your work and your very industrious man!
Regarding finding collections of old photos, I used to go to local postcard fairs and there were always lots of old Victorian, Edwardian etc. photos, too, and they were relatively inexpensive. Lots of Daguerre types and reproductions on postcards dating form the period. It's fascinating looking at the faces of people who are now long gone who were in their prime when the photo was taken. You can easily build a good collection this way.
Thanks so much for the video! While I don’t have Photoshop, I tried the exact same trick using Luminar Neo and was ecstatic to get the same result, by selecting Color for the coloured Layer overlay
Thanks very much for the tips!! I didn't know we could customize the descriptions too. My 26 year old grad class picture looks perfect once I added the cap and gown colours!!
I learned this little trick from you and I have just gone back to the website just now. You can no longer do this as they put a watermark on the small image that you use to bring in a change the layer to colour. Just thought I would let you know.
I had a black and white photo i uploaded it dida great job but the dress was blue, and i happen to know it was red, so i put "red dress" in the description and the image came back same as before but with red dress. Awesome.
A simple trick to upscale. Use a 4k or 8k monitor and screen grab. The screen image is close to the HD that costs and no PS was harmed in the rez increase.
It’s exactly what I was thinking soon it he pointed out it’s the low res version, as in compression one tip is reduce the resolution of the colour and maintain more of the grayscale channel as the human eye is more sensitive to contrast than colour. Good tip tho now it’s made more people aware of this trick I bet it won’t be long they be adding water mark unless you pay
For the life of me I can't figure how you can consume so much knowledge and regurgitate it out. Are you sure you are not part AI? Mannn, you are the best in the business. If you come to Chicago, me and my wife to love to meet you and show you our City. Dinner is on me!!!
Awesome, thanks for sharing. Compare to colorize in PS, it's streets ahead. I've been trying to colorize a B&W film, but the colors are not always correct and suffer from flashes of red or blue in places. I don't have the knowledge to fix this, but it would be neat if I could run the whole thing through Palette FM to get the consistency - or perhaps colorize all 200K frames individually 😂
Thanks! For us amateurs restoring our parents and grandparents B&Ws - this is the best! You rock!
True! This guy is clever and truly helpful

Always the best tips. Thanks! 👏👏👏
This what it mean we need to live along AI. Not rejected them
The hell?, did you even think what will happen in the negative thought yet? Elon Musk once said "AI is more far dangerous than nukes"1
Hmmmmm. So the way that will go is if you cant program or fix robots you are just a parasite.
The photoshop trick...you're the best!👍
Just tried this simply trick on a couple of photos, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Again... A.I. is going to change everything.
Nothing will be the same.
